The Zorba thread.

Since my rather unusual "nighttime profession", mode of dress, and other eccentricities have generated considerable - and totally understandable - interest here: I felt it best to create a thread for the purpose of Q&A, general WTFing, and poking fun.

This will hopefully help keep my other threads/questions more on topic, particularly Odd markings inside grip. If a moderator wants to move the relevant portions of that thread here, feel free!

So bring on the questions/comments/concerns/fun poking - I have a thick skin and am hard to offend!

You do seem to weather the slings and arrows well.

I am curious as to your avatar...Why do you have a marmoset on your head???

OK, I'm done! :D

Its just a rather large (silk) hairflower. That picture was taken on "formal nite" on a cruise my wife and I were on.

Unless, of course, you were joking me about my hair!:bigbye:

Here I thought people were wondering why Zorba was Greek when actually the movie was filmed on Crete and never call a Cretan a Greek............................

Arizona Slim 08-08-2013 04:14 PM

Zormpas, personally I would like to say "welcome aboard", you are obviously a person that is not easily offended and doesn't seem to have an elevated opinion of yourself, traits that I admire in a person. very commendable.

It's not that we dislike you, I find the posts amusing. Just try to understand a Luger toting male belly dancer is hard for some of us older guys to comprehend.

Yes. Many years ago, Johnny Carson [rip] did The Tonight Show, and regularly had an animal handler/zoologist (?) from the LA Zoo on...One night they had a marmoset, which got scared & skittery and ended up clinging to Johnny's head...There is probably a pic on the Net somewhere, it was quite funny...That is what I thought of when I first saw your avatar... :roflmao:

Oh, I *TOTALLY* get that (!!), that's why I figured it'd be a good thing (tm) to start a thread like this. I find the various posts amusing myself, but thinking it might be better to separate this subject from "Luger grips".

Nuts, most people have problems understanding a male Belly Dancer in the first place! I'll never forget the time I was performing in a student troupe - everyone else were gals, of course. Afterwards, a member of the local C&W "HillBilly" band who was up on stage after us came over and asked "Did you lose a bet?". My first thought was "Oh God, I hope my dancing was better than *that*" - but I'd seen them in the audience during our performance, it was fairly obvious what they were talking about!

Thank you for your kind words - My #1 rule is "If you're gonna be weird, you need to have a sense of humor!".

Crete is just about my most favorite place in the world.

mrerick 08-08-2013 04:25 PM

Zorba,

I think you just enjoy your body, and the attention...

I'm also glad you're interested in collecting Luger...

If I were in good enough shape to belly dance, I'd probably enjoy it too!

You are throwing that "we" around quite freely, I think....

I concur 200%....................food, History, temps and people are great. Found nothing wrong with the place. I had hopes to retire there but things didn't work out. Bluest and crystal clear water I had ever seen anywhere.

So what is your "daytime" profession?

Electronics technician/computer geek.

Ok, NOW I'm starting to wonder about you!!

:roflmao:

alvin 08-08-2013 06:08 PM

Yeah, the night job is unusual. But that also reveals guns in general, and Lugers in particular, have very broad social base in the U.S.

NoncomRetired 08-08-2013 07:03 PM

I know how he feels, I moonlighted as a Chippendale at night and a Drill Sergeant during the day. Long hours but the rewards were the best!!!!

I was surprised at the comments you recieved when you first joined... Which from my perception (yours might have seen a different view), was little to no comments. Made me proud of the membership. I took it that folks figured you were here, asking real questions and shared a love of the Luger. :)

Patronen 08-08-2013 10:14 PM

Welcome to the Forum and Collecting!
Sorry if I contributed to wandering off the topic on you grip thread.

All the best.

Pretty much - I had the occasional comment or question - and several PMs - but it really started getting interesting in the grip thread, so I thought it was a good idea to start this thread just to satisfy people's curiosity. When a weird guy like me comes onto a firearms forum - there's gonna be some surprise!:roflmao:

Its all good - I'm just very gratified at the wealth of knowledge found here - and the depth of consensus. Which is what prompted me to immediately become a patron - something I don't usually do, but this forum deserves it.

If you wanna see a flamewar, try one of the Piano boards sometime - nobody can agree on anything, and it turns into a pitched battle with fixed bayonets more often than not. None of that here!

NO worries - it just pointed out the need for this one!

Zormpas,

When you first told us of your avocation my first thought was that you've got a bigger set of jones than I've got.

I then I got on with the forum...

All the best!

Gunny John

PS. If any doofus ever gives you any real poop, give me a shout; I got yer back. GJ

Laughter is the best medicine.

Welcome to zormpas!

Had to look for Johnny Carson and the marmoset. This link has Carson and the marmoset, at about 1:30 in, after Carson and McMahon mugging and having fun.

Seems like the link is like TV in that it keeps playing. After Carson and the marmoset, there's a memorial to Gregory Peck with scenes from To Kill A Mockingbird, then an old ad for the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and that's as far as I went.

Carson and marmoset made me laugh!

kzullick 08-09-2013 06:19 PM

And Doug criticized me for using the term "we" freely!:roflmao:

alvin 08-09-2013 06:21 PM

Sorry, I like to use "we" extensively in my posts as well. Give myself a feeling that I am not alone. Feel better that way. Actually, 80% of time, "we" really means "I" in my posts :) Just realized that.

Return to the original topic, Zorba's career is exciting. I dreamed I could do some unusual thing when I was a kid, but I could never break conventional lifestyle in decades. Feel boring on myself.

I can't speak for the forum Marines, 'we' soldiers don't go there, at least not while I was in, well maybe a 173rd did now and then but no one in the 101st did.

Olle 08-09-2013 07:14 PM

This is way cool! I have always been kind of a "bohemian" myself, and I admire those who have the balls to do what they enjoy without worrying about what the society dictates. My question would be: How in the world did you get started with something like this?

lugerholsterrepair 08-09-2013 08:09 PM

Sonny..well maybe a 173rd did now and then but no one in the 101st did.
The 101st never burnt down any PX's either! The 173rd has that honor.. We weren't banned from every R&R post in Viet Nam for wearing silk panties! Didn't the 101 go leg?

Zorba, Post a link to your web site..I found the FAQ quite interesting reading!

Nope, they got tired of humping chutes so they decided to jump from rotor winged aircraft without them.

I'm starting to take it all as a badge of honor. After all, I'm betting those C-96 weenies on the other forums don't have their own male belly-dancer...

C96 weenies are all busy on relining bores :) Everyone has the same question "how to contact Broomhandle Closet, what's the cost, how is the quality, etc". Each C&R has each C&R's feature story. Not many Lugers have that type of bore.

G.T. 08-09-2013 10:25 PM

I like his threads!

I wish I could just dance! I went into a home depot and bought a few sheets of plywood.. when the cashier was looking for the UPC symbols.. I couldn't help her lift the plywood.. I told her I suffered from ABNB, and was not alone in this world.. She said, I'm so sorry, and, she asked what is that??
I replied, "All Belly & No Butt! My pants fall down if I bend over!! :):):).. I think we have a great forum and all the members are a very diverse lot... except for those paratroopers... :)....( Jerry & Ed) With whom I'm also very close!!! Best to all, til...lat'r....GT:cheers:
