Odd markings inside grip.
1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone have a clue about this stamped mark? If I do the grip cleaning procedure, this will likely go away.
Original or repro grips? Any ideas? Haven't figured out the hand lettering either, but I'm pretty sure that isn't factory... (!!) |
Your avatar is very creepy. Are you trying to emulate Tiny Tim?
|
I haven't a clue who 'Tiny Tim' is.
|
Really? Never heard of Tiny Tim (Burns)? Never "Tip Toed Thru The Tulips?"

Z,It's difficult to tell from your photo, but the inside of the grip shown appear to be original and the marking could be a Mauser spare parts code --- L-S42, but I've never seen one lke it. Having been a Bay Area resident for over 20 years, I know that your area is where Old Hippies and rich folk go to retire. TH

All the best, Gunny John. PS. Do a Google image search on "Tiny Tim." (Careful, you may want to change your avatar if you do. :o ) |
I'm not young by any means, but I've never been too up on popular culture so there's the occasional reference I just don't get.
I'm exactly halfway between the rich folk and the hippies - hippies to the north, richies to the south! LugerDoc - check your PMs! ETA: I also just sent an email. |
Ok, I went and googled Tiny TIm - an ugly spud, isn't he?
Other than the long hair, I don't see any resemblance! |

Marshombre,
you probably do not have a chance to see male belly dancers in FL State. here is zorba's web site. http://www.doubleveil.net/index.htm |
Eye opening! Eye opening! Now I know the world is big!
|
Actually, there is one or two in Florida - not counting visitors. I get out that way once in a while, and there's one guy (at least) who is a regular at the Orlando Belly Dance festivals.
|
I have a sneaky feeling that Zorba is making a boatload of $$$$$$$$$
on stage and buying lugers with it.......ain't nothing wrong with that........

In 1980, I had a girlfriend who was taking her master's degree in Speech Pathology at Ithaca College. While walking across campus one day, she overheard one freshman say to another, "Did you know Paul McCartney used to be in another band? Yeah. It was called "the Beatles.":roflmao:
Oh, and I'm seeing "L-S45". |

I thought it was the Quarrymen. |
Man, Doug, you are old!

.. and the stamping that I see is L-5455... no "S" I suspect that this is not an original marking...because I think they are aftermarket grips. This probably happened somewhere in the post-war period by some retailer... |

Sometimes it's difficult for us to get past the first impressions others post before us, sort of jumping on the same bandwagon; prompted by these biases, we think we see what we're supposed to see. |
The seller's ad described "The bore on this pistol is absolutely mint. I have never seen one cleaner or nicer. Folks that means no frost no pits NO DEFECTS!"
Have you checked the barrel? Is it the original barrel? |
Yes - and the bore looks brand new! I'm still trying to figure out how to jury rig a borelite so I can get a picture of it.
|
Simply because the seller emphasized on the bore condition.... If you could post a picture showing the serial number on the barrel and "witness mark" (the alignment line acrossing the barrel and receiver), and a picture showing the muzzle crown of the barrel, that should tell. It's much more fun to play these C&R in hands than reading collector books.
|
I'll see about getting a pic of that area when I photograph the bore. But if the bbl was replaced, it was a darn good job, the number is correct, the witness mark is aligned, it has the correct Nazi proofs, and it has holster wear consistent with the rest of the gun.
BUT... I'm not an expert, so I'll get a pic. |
Male belly dancers? WT*! I'm gettin' to old for this s..... I'm thankful that I live in a state that still has a modicum of sanity.
|
Hate to tell ya, but I know of at least 2 male Belly Dancers in Florida - and that doesn't count the times when I come to visit! A very well known male is a fixture at the annual festival they have in Orlando.
And those are just the ones I know about... |
Belly dancing is NOT in my interest to do. However collecting lugers and other things is a YES. If Zormpas was making that boatload of free cash as a performer, it would be tempting. Though I wouldn't pay to see me and I can't imagine anyone either. I would look like Dom in this clip.

As long as he is not breaking the law or harming others, what a man does for a living is his business.......
