Very Nice!!

Norme 12-21-2011 04:02 PM

Hi Eric, A small point, Paul von Hindenburg was not the Kaiser, he was a General. Nice guns, however. Best regards, Norm

cirelaw 12-21-2011 04:04 PM

You are right, Silly me! They were both German I think!

cirelaw 12-21-2011 04:11 PM

Ive got to brush up! Great Mustache!

mrerick 12-21-2011 05:45 PM

He was elected second president of Weimar Germany in 1925...

alanint 12-21-2011 06:39 PM

And paved trhe way for Uncle Adolph to take over by inconveniently passing away.....

Sam Steele 12-21-2011 07:52 PM

Is this the "Nit picking Club"?

Um....It's "ADOLF", not "Adolph".

Now that I have a 1979 Mauser Karabiner, there's a pull that wants me to go Imperial. I've had a Model 1900, so a Great-War war horse is in order. Got a nice new gun show coming up on January 15th, so I'll see what they have.

Cheers,

Bill

Can anyone read & translate the writing on the plate??? I'm pretty sure that Mrs Ring told us that that war ended in 1918, not 1915... :p

OK, I get - "to the memory of the war years 1914 - 1915"

A 1915 plate??? Kewl!!! :D

Fur Erinnerung ..... HINDENBURG an die Kriegrsjahre 1914-15

cirelaw 12-21-2011 09:27 PM

I believe this plate was made during the war years!

Sam Steele 12-21-2011 11:02 PM

Yup....I also collect military medals, and I've seen a medal case for an Iron Cross second class marked only from 1914-1917. I agree with CIRELAW.....made during the war.

Cheers,

Bill

Well you can compare Paul von Hindenburg with president Eisenhower.
Hindenburg was a war hero and very popular after WW I, the hero of the battle of Tannenberg, were he won the most important battle against the imerial Russian army in 1915 . "Der Held von Tannenberg", nick name "Masuren Paule".
As of today, he is a well respected General and democratic elected former President of the "Weimar" republic.
During WWI and later on he had the popularity like a pop star. You could buy pictures, cups, plates, everything with his picture on it.

alanint 12-22-2011 06:16 AM

You missed the point of my post entirely......

Kaiser Wilhelm was a grandson of England's Queen Victoria who ruled for 63 years.

Sam Steele 12-22-2011 04:03 PM

Sorry alanint....I didn't mean that in a snotty way.

As for the trio of Lugers, I like that Artillery marked and stocked baby. Verrrry nice!

Cheers,

Bill

Sam Steele 12-22-2011 04:08 PM

......and you're right, Hitler wasn't going anywhere while von Hindenburg was alive and in control, and Hitler knew it.

Von Mackensen was another superb leader of the Great War. Too bad that they weren't in charge at the turn of the century. Politics always rears its ugly head when disaster is waiting to happen.

Just my tuppence.

Cheers,

Bill

alanint 12-22-2011 04:25 PM

No offense taken.

In the theme of the thread, which was misidentifying famous figures, I figured I'd toss out an "Uncle" and an Anglicanized "Adolph" to keep it going. Too subtle, perhaps....

(I have seen Adolf Hitler's name spelled out once or twice before!) 8^)

Hardly! Winston Churchill wanted Kaiser Wilhelm hanged as a war criminal, but the Dutch granted him political asylum. They were a little less pro German after WW2. Regards, Norm

pitsword 12-22-2011 07:35 PM

Is the rumor true? Were they all..well you know, Poofters?

alanint 12-22-2011 07:54 PM

Mostly snappy uniforms, which could get confusing. Now Hitler's Brownshirts were most certainly a "Boys Club", at least at the top echelons. One of the reasons Hitler had the organization evicerated.

It is still claimed that Hitler himself shot Ernst Rhom.

Admiral Tirpitz beard always amazed me. What a nightmare to keep that in order!

Ron, your busby would a highlight in any headgear collection. It is nothing short of marvellous...
