Million-dollar chip ... fixer

If I remember correctly, some talented member was doing a repair of the common grip chip ..... I have a set of otherwise nice grips with the chip missing aft of the safety .... is that a reasonable repair , compared to the cost of replacement grips ?

The grips are not original to the gun nor the era .... but they are at least small-checkered and clean.

Would it be a bad idea to fix a small chip on a matched collector grade 1940 42?

Kitkat041836 08-28-2011 10:34 PM

He is the best there is as far as I know, and his price is fair.
Good luck you will be happy you used him.
Thanks George

Make that three.

Alx 08-29-2011 07:53 AM

Who is the third ?

Neil Young 08-29-2011 07:57 AM

Not three different people. Everyone is recommending the same person.

;) Thanks for the compliments guys! As some of you know, a couple of years ago I had to fire the Armadillos that did my checkering due to excessive partying and not tending to business!
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...clark/ee_1.jpghttp://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x157/hhclark/297.jpg
Subsequently, I hired this group of girls to do the checkering for me:

Well, it looks like I am going to have to let the girls go and rehire the Armadillos. They are slacking off on the work and just wanting to have sex all the time. At 74 I am too old for this, and it is wearing me out keeping all four happy every day!

Kitkat041836 08-30-2011 10:13 AM

Send them to me and I will see if I can help you out.
Thanks George

What would you do with them, have em clean your house.......:D

Harry

lugerholsterrepair 08-30-2011 02:18 PM

Harry..Those girls would clean George's clock!

Alx 08-30-2011 02:18 PM

They might not clean houses or do windshields, but they are great at hijacking ...... threads.

lugerholsterrepair 08-30-2011 02:35 PM

Alx,Yes..it's worth doing compared to buying another set of grips.
Talk to Hugh. He will fix you right up .

He's the ONLY guy on the Planet I would send grips to.

Alx,
Sorry for hijacking your thread-the girls made me do it, or it's Bush's fault, I forget which:o

Anyway, I will be happy to refurbish your grips for you, the price is $65 to rechecker, stain and oil, including return postage. Turnaround is presently about two weeks.

You can send the grips and a personal check to:

Hugh..I may be wrong but I don't believe that is what Alx is asking about or wanting? (refurbishing?) Hence the title of the thread..million dollar chip missing? Unless you restore the missing chip with the refurbishing service?

If I remember correctly, some talented member was doing a repair of the common grip chip ..... I have a set of otherwise nice grips with the chip missing aft of the safety

But from reading your reply and looking at those terrible grips..(before) and the afters I guess that's exactly what you do! Great job!

hgreer2 08-30-2011 03:17 PM

Hugh, the thread wasn't hi-jacked, there were four of us that confirmed you are without a doubt the best. The thread was over at that time, we gave a phone number, email address and physical address, what else can one say. Anyway, thanks for the girls.

Harry

Alx 08-30-2011 04:01 PM

I was just trying to play along .... those swat gals look loaded and HOT ! so I thought they were good for a hijack.

cirelaw 08-30-2011 04:08 PM

Did a fantastic job. The other guy wanted 3 times as much and wanted be to send the entire piece!

Edward Tinker 08-30-2011 04:19 PM

Hugh, i bought a bunch of grips while over here (but from a friend in the states), and I know the last deal i made with you made your girls cry and refuse you for weeks, but I will contact you when I get back to civilization in 9 days :D

Ed

Hugh 08-31-2011 01:03 AM

Ed,
I think I still have a couple pair from that last deal I haven't sent to you yet!:banghead:

Jerry,
You are right!:p
Alx,
To repair your grip without refurbishing is $35 including return postage.:o

Neil Young 08-31-2011 08:34 AM

Gentlemen:
If you refurbish the grips on an all matching Luger, does it adversely affect the value? Hopefully it would not, because it adds so much to the beauty of the pistol. Thanks.

Neil

Edward Tinker 08-31-2011 09:15 AM

Neil, my opinion is no

Usually you can tell from the rear if fixed, I clean my grips, completely restoring I am more adverse to, but don't think of it personally as a bad thing. AND, I have had grips restored because they just 'needed' it.

Ed

alanint 08-31-2011 09:25 AM

I agree with Ed, as it is a "repair" rather than a restoration and it is not intended to fool anybody, I think a grip repair should not hurt, but perhaps enhance the value of a collector pistol
