Cirelaw aka Eric Back In Hospital and Rehab

1 Attachment(s)
I'm writing to let my friends know that after next week I willl be out of commision for a second repair of a right ankle compound fracture. Last November I slipped in my bathroon causing a frature of my fibula and complete tear of several tendons and ligaments. After a week in icu and 4 weeks in a rehab hospital the fracture was not healing and was worsening. This week xrays were taken showing complete frature and searing of the screws that the must have bought from ace hardware. This week I saw a specialist that was an expert on this type of orthopedic disaster. A week from today he will have to remove all the hardware and reconstuct the bone, ligaments and tendons to heal, First a lower leg brace, and new hardware. Ill try to keep my friends and allies posted!

Eric,

So sorry to hear of this. You would think that in the 21st century in a developed country like the USA, we could do better.

Get well soon. Hurry back. No, come to think about it; tell them to take their time and get it right.

John

I did personal litigation for close to 25 years. Again the problem is communication. Our first appontment with the surgeon one week post, the xrays looked fine, no breaks. The following week with the physical terepist, my cast was removed and although pain I could get around with a walker. Two weeks later something snapped, severe lower leg pain. My new surgeon thinks the cast was possible removed too soon but the hard ware shouldnt have failed. He will know when he examines them post op next week. My prior doctor mearly said its a complication! Comp my Ask!! This new surgeon repairs fugg ups. I trust this new one! He went to Temple and I went to Villanova! Thank You all. I get more support from you then my inlaws or stupid soma comas!

Hang in there Eric. Even though it's your ankle, I'm sure that you also have some pain in the Axx.

Eric
We wish both you and your wife the best. Hurry up and get well !!! Bill

cirelaw 05-13-2011 11:47 AM

Thank You, This is ironic, 5 years ago I was at my Orthopedic Dr Scott Katzman for my second shoulder surgery and fell in his waiting room fracturing my other ankle. Scott and Debbie couldn't stop laughing. They said it was like dying in a funeral home! True Story!!!

Edward Tinker 05-13-2011 12:04 PM

Eric, yuck...

I broke a bone in my left foot, after a year, it never fully healed and had to have a screw put in it.

Not the most fun in the world, and you take care my friend.

cirelaw 05-13-2011 12:37 PM

The problem is that they are weight bearing, He has to first remove what to prior doc put in. The bones are the least of the problems, the torn muscles and tendon contain to pain receptors then a warning of future problems ie arthritus. a stoke and coma were less painful. No one has given me a strait answer whet the screws broke! They say they are the least of my problems. Ed does it still bother you? If so whats good for pain. Alleve?

But you need to be honest with them. Also fib a little and tell them your wife is an attorny also. :D

Doctors are very careful with attorneys.

I really never expected the outcry genuine best wishes. Ill keep you all informed of the date of surgery. It has been set for next thursday, 2=3 days in intensive care and a minimun 3-4 weeks in a rehab hospital. Probobly no access to a computer however Debbie will keep everyone informed. Thank You! Unfortunatle it takes times like this to really realize our other family we tegether share. Sure we have our differences but the solution of those diffences that bind us together, God Bless each and every true friend and family. Seriously!

FNorm 05-13-2011 06:25 PM

Eric,

Good luck and God Bless.

Good looking phallies, I grow them too.

FN

cirelaw 05-13-2011 06:41 PM

When we were living in Costa Rica they grew everywhere. The hint in Florida is just a misting and leave the alone They were considered airplants! They needed no soil, along with the iguanas! They would jump down from the trees scareing Debbie My compliments of your orchid knowlege!

Ron Wood 05-13-2011 06:53 PM

Best wishes to you sir. Hope your recovery is smooth and complete. Hang in there.
Ron

cirelaw 05-13-2011 07:52 PM

Thank You Ron, I could alway be worse! I'm just a little disappointed in some of our medical collegues. My first otho who did the first surgery saw the xrays and said nothing but referred me to a pain clinic to get oxys for the rest of my life. Debbie saw the xrays that you can see above. She immediatly got me in to an accute trauma ortho who is getting me right in. Love that women who also got me out of my coma in Costa Rico ten years ago!l

cirelaw 05-14-2011 11:46 AM

Monday Preop, Thursday surgery. Will be missing in action at least 3 weeks. Will miss You all!

lugerholsterrepair 05-14-2011 12:01 PM

Eric, Yes please do what the Dr. tells you! You will be back on your feet soon..I feel for Debbie..she will have to push you around for a month or so! Tell her I said hello..

cirelaw 05-14-2011 12:15 PM

As long as she does't push me out the door!!

Vlim 05-14-2011 01:19 PM

Eric, I hope you will have a smooth recovery, and a lower amount of hardware store supplies in your legs. Take care and arrange for internet at the bed side!

cirelaw 05-14-2011 01:31 PM

Thank You. Whats amazing is how these screws broke. It wasnt the bone but the screws. The first surgery was over $50k. Now they have to remove them. I'm demanding to keep the screws. All I got was thats normal and thats now what causng the pain!!!!! I'm sorry but thats not normal recovery. After we saw the xrays his office refused to do anything, Cited they no longer accepted our insurance, Thank God we found an ortho who specialized in orthopedic failures. Well I'm packing my bags and going through another hell. He had to search to find out the manufacture of the failed hardware. Seriously Thank so much for your emotional help. Live by the sword, die by the sword!

the gunman 05-14-2011 01:36 PM

Hi, Eric. So sorry to hear of this latest nonsense you are having to go through. If there is anything at all I can do, please don't hesitate to call on me - you have my number. Be well and know that your are in our thoughts and prayers. - Richie

Vlim 05-14-2011 01:36 PM

These are normally vanadium screws and should be tough/hard as hell.

Look for a 'made in China' marking when you get them :)

cirelaw 05-14-2011 01:48 PM

God, beside both my families I should do Fine!

cirelaw 08-21-2011 06:31 PM

WOW, You really helped me in you prayers and knowing each of you were there! A singular thought did more then 100cc of placebo! I'm sitting here with a cast and smile!! God thank you all for all of our EVERYTHING!!!

azlaw 09-05-2011 01:05 AM

Ortho injuries on lower extremities are the worst - long healing times and high risk of complications. Get the best surgeon you can find, exercise and PT as best you can, oxycodone for the pain, and strawberry yogurt for the oxycodone.

Healing is a state of mind - if things are tolerable, then you're winning. Get well soon!
