who we going to wast billions on now that Osama is dead?

lew1 05-02-2011 06:36 AM

.

Don't worry, they will find something.

nukem556 05-02-2011 07:55 AM

I'm so sorry if it offended you to whack him....why don't you pack up your collections and move to Islamabad? I'm sure they'd be glad to have you.

John Sabato 05-02-2011 08:28 AM

How U.S. Tax money is spent is decided by the leader put in office by the votes of the American people. If anyone doesn't like how it is spent, There are legitimate ways to change things. If you are not satisfied with the people who run this country you can:

Vote them out.
Run for Office Yourself.
Live somewhere where you can be more satisified.

The war on terrorism isn't over... it will never be over. Life as we knew it before 9/11 has changed the globe, and not just our country...FOREVER.

Every one is entitled to an opinion, but that doesn't mean that it is prudent to post your opinions publicly. Especially on a volatile subject.

This thread will remain open for now, BUT I will not tolerate any name calling, or flaming between members over opinions on what it cost the USA seeking justice for 9/11, and protecting us from now on...There simply is no other choice but to seek out those who intend to destroy our way of life. Because they won't give up. We can't.

Ron Smith 05-02-2011 08:47 AM

I think the question should be, who would have Bin Laden killed next?

alanint 05-02-2011 09:02 AM

Let's also not forget that in our "Billion Dollar" search for Bin Ladin, we have closed down dozens of terrorist cells, broken up perhaps hundreds of intended attacks before they materialized and generally kept our enemies on the defensive. We have also liberated hundreds of thousand of people from the Talibans and Al Quaida's evil influence. Thousands of women in Afghanistan and Iraq can now attend school and better themselves.
"Getting" Bin Ladin is just a milestone along a very long road to a more peaceful future.

Ron Smith 05-02-2011 09:19 AM

To be crass..I hope he had time to feel fear so intense it was paralizing.

I take great pride in the fact that the last thing to go through his mind, was a U.S. Navy bullet.

Howard, I think most people reading this thread, with your title and then your comment; felt that you disapproved of Bin Laden being taken out.

I saw how it could be misconstrued that way, and so did 2 other moderators.

But we decided that your intention was not to mean it that way, since we know you, and felt you would probably explain your comments more if we left it open?

policeluger 05-02-2011 10:26 AM

ED, sorry if I offened you or anyone here, God bless Navy Seal's...as for you who know me, we're OK, but for poor uninformed 556, well I am from Islamabad as it were as I am half Iranian and two years in Viet Nam give me and my extensive collection the right to live here....end of thread.

mrerick 05-02-2011 10:34 AM

Please don't forget the dedication, skill, bravery and sacrifice of the fine American armed service forces that engaged this enemy and succeeded at their mission.

These were difficult conditions logistically and politically.

This is an entrenched and committed enemy that has complicit friends that protected him.

I have often wondered why our enemies are so motivated to fight against us. It seems that all forms of fundamentalism are focused on controlling others and enforcing an often dictatorial system of dominance based upon power and beliefs.

Our enemy has consistently seen our projection of power and belief done in the name of our citizens and way of life. When systems are in conflict, sometimes demagogs like Bin Laden lose a battle. That is how it should be.

I grew up in America, and believe in our way of life, it's rights, responsibilities, privileges and rewards. Those that would destroy us can go straight to places where they can no longer be a threat. In Bin Laden's case it sounds like that now rests deep in the sea.

Thank you American Special Forces members for accomplishing your difficult and dangerous mission.

Marc

The snake of terrorism which grew the head of Osama Bin Laden will grow more heads, but with the strength, determination, and skill of our military and our civilian intelligence operators and analysts we will chop off each of those heads as it appears. Terrorism crawled on the earth long before Bin Laden and it will continue to crawl long after he is gone. We must remain steadfast in our resolve to lead the fight against it. I am proud to have contributed my tax dollars to killing that SOB. I cannot think of a more important place for that money to have been spent and I share the jubilation of the millions of my countrymen who gathered at the White House and at Ground Zero to celebrate killing him.

WELL DONE SEALS! WELL DONE CIA! and WELL DONE to all who took part in the intelligence gathering, planning, and execution of this operation!

Doug

Carter and Clinton both reduced the military and the govenment found a use for the free money other than reducing taxes, etc.

The government does not reduce their take.

As to the instance in question, here is a post I made on another forum:

"As to hiding behind a woman, they have learned that such works. Look at all of the hype and furor that occurs when a civilian is killed.

But such does not work if the wrong group is present.

My son is in a spec ops group. He was around Kabul for 6 months in 2009. Currently in Iraq.

He was home on leave this past Christmas. My sister-in-law and another inlaw woman were prattling around about the current situation over there and civilians, etc.

I don't recall what set him off, but he said that if you had a house with 20 terrorists and one civilian, the Marines would try to talk the terrorist out. But if the house had 20 women and children and one terrorist, then his group would try not to kill too many women and children in order to get the terrorist. He also added that his type of group would be the one to go after Bin Laden.

Well, a spec ops group went in and hiding behind a woman did not work."

I hope he makes the smart move and leaves...

Just heard an hour or so ago. The United States Navy SEAL Team 6 did the honors. They are not even acknowleged to exist by the Navy.

If they are after you, just get it over with...

nukem556 05-02-2011 04:50 PM

sorry, Police, I am neither "poor" nor "uninformed", and you have no monopoly in serving in uniform - been there, done that. I just have no tolerance for inane comments that better belong on Code Pink's website than here.

lugerholsterrepair 05-02-2011 05:38 PM

Seems we have paid Pakistan 19 BILLION dollars since 2001. That is quite a sum for a supposed partner who ends up harboring our most hated enemy.

Vlim 05-02-2011 05:51 PM

Well, he didn't have internet or a phone, so they did deny him some comforts :D

Ron,

And then after identifying them, our press corps printed out the town where they are based and how they are known to the civilians so the terrorists can easily retaliate. Aren't they wonderfully efficient.

Some black operations should remain black. Will never understand why some people simply feel compelled to show how much they know. And most of these personnel who spill their guts have probably never even heard gunfire except on the range but it is important to seem so important.

If I seem upset. I am. Never minded putting myself in harm's way but my family!!!

I often wonder whether we could have won WWII if the press behaved then the way they behave now. They would have published the troop buildup in England, the Naval armada being formed, the gliders, the airborne troops, the inflatable tanks and trucks, all of it....and as soon as they found out that the landing was going to take place at Normandy on June 6th it would have been on the front page of the NY Times and the Washington post, not to mention CNN and all the major networks.

I still remeber the news conference during the first Iraq war when GEN Schwarzkopf was aked by an American spy posing as a reporter when and where the invasion would take place. Oh....wait a minute, I think he really WAS an American reporter. My bad.

Ron Smith 05-02-2011 10:01 PM

Jerry,

We transported SEALs in Vietnam, and met a few at San Diego on North Island.
I wouldn't doubt that those crazy bastards left their names, addresses and phone numbers, along with an invitation to a barbecue.

If somebody told me where a bear trap was buried. I don't think I would start stomping around to see if I could trip it.

Maybe more details of this operation will be unveiled by Wikileaks in the near future. It could cause some harm for the involved servicemen, informants, local people and their family.

Jack Lawman 05-03-2011 01:16 PM

One of the commentators on CNN just made me laugh. He was at the Abbottabad compound talking about what he saw when he peeked into a gap in one of the gates. He was very surprised that although an "intense firefight" was reported... the walls were not pocked with bulletholes.

I guess all of Seal Team 6's suppressive fire actually went in the windows. I bet there are quite a few more bulletholes on the inside of the compound wall. Probably some brown doo inside the building too.

Ron Smith 05-03-2011 02:07 PM

He obviously watches too many movies.

silverknife 05-03-2011 02:41 PM

...and some of Seal Team 6's fire went into Bin Laden. Works for me.

Regards,
Doug

alanint 05-03-2011 03:13 PM

Seal team members are trained to make very precise, controlled shots. They don't "spray and pray" They entered quickly and overwhelmed outside guards with night vision and suppressed weapons that it is no surprise there is almost no damage outside. The inside of the structure may be another matter.

Jack Lawman 05-03-2011 03:22 PM

All I need to know is that despite a helicopter crash no Americans were killed or wounded. Those guys must have moved like the workings of a swiss clock. I could care less about the "shot in the face" pictures or the shark food drop video... I wanna see the video of the raid!

I'll probably have to wait about 25 years.

Probably so, but you might very well see Hollywood's version very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if this will be the new "Raid on Entebbe".

With Charlie Sheen as the "winning" SEAL Team leader? Maybe a little Demi Moore (G.I. Jane) as the conflicted female SEAL taking out the female terrorists? Michael Moore as the Navy admiral pulled out of retirement running the show from a bunker, unsure if he's doing the right thing? I'd pay some money to see that :) !
