This is pathetic

...especially coming from the curator of the NRA museum. Take particular note of remarks about why the doughboys went to Europe in 1917.

lugerholsterrepair 01-10-2011 04:40 PM

George..Don't you know this guy? I think you took me to meet him when we went to the NRA Museum by his invitation?
What gives?

Jerry

Norme 01-10-2011 04:42 PM

Hi George, It's not often I agree with you, but your right about this guy. It's hard to believe that someone could squeeze so much nonsense into a mere 9 1/2 minutes. Regards, Norm

alanint 01-10-2011 04:52 PM

Can some of you advanced collectors post photos of your DWM Mausers for all to see?
:roflmao:

Neil Young 01-10-2011 04:54 PM

I agree George--that is beyond pitiful. According to him, the G.I.'s must have been crazy to fight and for many, die, for a piece of hardware from the enemy. It is insulting to the war veterans to say that this was their reason for fighting.

In addition, his knowledge of the Luger leaves a bit to be desired.

Neil

I have met the man several times at various shows.

That interview is one of his better ones.

An understatement

Such utter ignorance is appalling, coming from the mouth of the NRA firearms curator. The video should be pulled before it causes further embarrassment.

This is beyond pathetic on so many planes that I hesitiate to start the list.

Its a sad commentary that Phil Schreier seems to be the best that the NRA can field. As a Lifetime Member, I am embarassed for his lack of knowledge and ashamed of the disprespect shown for our veterans and their heroic deeds.

John

mrerick 01-10-2011 05:40 PM

Hi, I posted a comment on the video on YouTube and also contacted Mr. Schreier to offer suggestions on his video. We'll see what kind of response I get...

9-1/2 minutes way too long I had to shut it off after 3 .... what a bunch of babling nonsense...I know my dad sure didn't fight for souvenirs with the First infantry...although he did come home a few bits of schrapnel heavier...Thank You, Dale

champ7fc 01-10-2011 09:36 PM

I do not post much, however after viewing this video I have to say that it is a demonstration of the most absurd. I am sure that my father did not fight the Japanese in the Pacific to collect war trophies, He did however return with shrapnel in his head, I guess you could call that a war trophy. I do not take this as a joke either. The man should be called on his statements. His knowledge of the Luger pistol if representative of his expetise in his position should disqualify him from the position he now holds. That is my two cents worth.

Frank 01-11-2011 10:48 AM

Someone should tell him to read some history books AND some books on LUGERS.

What a shame!! And to think he runs the NRA Museum. :(

Censorship at work

Just revisited the You Tube site to see how many other comments beyond mine were posted and found that most, if not all of the comments had been REMOVED.

How about that? Obviously, we stepped on someone's toes.

I guess the next step is a letter directly to the NRA.

John

lew1 01-11-2011 01:00 PM

Write the directors of the NRA. They have the final authority if they choose to use it.

mrerick 01-11-2011 01:07 PM

My constructive comments were removed .So much for their integrity...

Marc

Message to the NRA sent today

Sent this Message to the NRA.

BEGIN MESSAGE: "I would really like senior management to read this message but I know it will never get to them.

I am a Life NRA Member and proud of the organization and its work.

But, Phil Schreier's latest interview on You Tube regarding Lugers is an embarrassment to me, the NRA and does not serve the NRM well.

He is inaccurate with respect to Lugers, demeaning of the efforts our valiant veterans made in WWI and WWII and needs a real lesson in history.

When these things were pointed out, the comments on You Tube were censored out by REMOVING them.

Dear leadership of the NRA, you do not censor comment; you remove the offending segment, correct it, and then re-post it. The removal of our criticism of Phil Schreier does not change the FACT that his comments were factually and historically incorrect and to top it off, offensive to veterans.

Please have the courage that I would expect of the NRA, and do the right thing.

Respectfully submitted." EOM

Hopefully something good will come of it. I'll post their reply if one comes.

john

The video is now PRIVATE amd all comments were removed. How about an apology for posting utter nonsense on Youtube in the name of the NRA?

Charlie

mrerick 01-11-2011 05:58 PM

Actually, if it's been set to "Private" it basically means that the NRA has withdrawn the video from online distribution...

That may indicate that they have recognized the problem!

Marc

lew1 01-11-2011 07:38 PM

No, they are just trying to hide the problem.

Here is another gem that has not been blocked.

You'd think this guy would read a few books or talk to some collectors in his travels.

I think he has been drinking:cheers:

lew1 01-12-2011 12:22 AM

One wonders how he was able to get to the position he now has.

MikeP 01-16-2011 01:26 PM

Bothe my grandfathers went to France in 1917.

My dad was 506th PIR in WW2. Uncles in Marines and Seabees as well.

I did 2 combat tours in RVN.

I do not recall them mentioning souveniers as a big issue.

I collected WW2 stuff as a kid-there was tons of it still in hands of the vets.
From about 1960-1965.

One thing I noted was that the biggest hordes of stuff came from REMFS.
Mostly guys who came along later and picked through piles of stuff.
The combat guys sometimes had a pistol or two, but in general they had had all they wanted of it.

My own experience in RVN somewhat confirmed that.

pitsword 01-16-2011 04:08 PM

That (:rtfm:deleted)"expert" is a disgrace. I am a NRA life member, we/I do not need (deleted)guys like that representing us. Reminds me of some of the "elected Union officials" that I had to support before I cashed out. I paid my dues, all of them. US Army 26 years and too many in the ibew.
"Our brothers at work".

lugerholsterrepair 01-16-2011 04:39 PM

Vince, I understand your passion but please try not to use cursewords to make your point. It makes it more pleasant for us all.

Jerry and all. I sincerly apologize (sp?). Thank all of you for being the Gentlemen that you are. "No excuse sir". This Board is the finest group of Gentlemen that I have ever been part of. Again, my humble apology.

lugerholsterrepair 01-16-2011 06:59 PM

Vince, No problem! We all need a reminder every so often...Phil Schreier in this interview would make the Pope think about swearing! He wouldn't of course...
Thanks for your kind words.

Jerry Burney

No doubt the pope knows his lugers and K98s a lot better also :)
