The Parabellum is back web site

Dear Fellows,
We have published the new web site:

www.theparabellumisback.com

This web site is entitled to support the new book “The Parabellum is Back! 1945 – 2000” Gerben and I have just finished writing.

According to Brad Simpson the book will be available in November.

For the moment is simply summarizing the book content and in the future will be updated with new information, finds, improvements....

In this way, coupling the book with the web site, we will provide always the last new information about this intriguing period of the Parabellum history.

I hope you appreciate the effort Gerben and I implement in this research.

Have a look and let me know if you like it...

Have fun,
Mauro

Site looks good! I like it!

I am curious...On the "Book Abstract" page, there is a pic of an Artillery and a Navy Luger...with the caption -

Post WWII
Parabellum
Top Artillery model
produced under French
control from1945...

Is that correct??? The French made artillery's in 1945???

I'm going to have to refine my Searches on GunBroker...I want one of those!!! :)

Rich,

You would probably have better luck winning the Lottery. Mauro's got some stuff that is unbelievable.

A sneak preview of the first books!

bradsimpson 10-22-2010 03:04 PM

The book shown above is one of the first Standard Editions off the line. Mauro, Gerben, & I are having advance copies air mailed to us. Mine was shipped today.

The dust jackets are not finished yet. The text is black foil, the guns are spot U.V. laminated, and both are embossed. All of this adds time to production.

I spared no expense in the production of this book, and the extra details are making production run a little longer. If they ship in the next couple of weeks, we should have books in early December.

The quality of the final product will make the wait worth it. I should have a sample at Tulsa.

When the book is available, let us know how to order it and for how much. I know that good books are not cheap but they are well worth the cost and I am sure this one will be worthwhile.

One can NEVER have too many books. Guttenburg made the greatest invention in history!

Steve

bradsimpson 10-28-2010 01:54 PM

Thanks Steve!

We'll start taking pre-orders in the next couple weeks.

The book will only be $84.95 for the Standard Edition. I think this is a very reasonable price for a 560 page hardbound book printed in full color. If anything, I may have under-priced it?

But I gotta keep the current economy in mind.

mauro 10-28-2010 01:57 PM

Steve,
In addition to what Brad wrote, you know that we set up a specific web site:

http://www.theparabellumisback.com

that supports the book.

A specific page will be also available to explain how to order the book.

Cheers,
Mauro

Here's another photo from the printer's.

The real thing is much more beautiful than the photo can show. Raised lettering on the dust jacket, and high gloss guns on a matte gloss surface look really stunning!

This Book Looks Fantastic!

Mr. Kornmayer review

Hello Fellows,
I am very happy to show here the letter I have received a few days ago from Mr. Kornmayer concerning our book.

Mr. Kornmayer and the Prof. Dr. Gminder helped us a lot giving free access to a huge amount of data that has been collected and published in the "Parabellum is Back! 1945 - 2000" book.

Cheers,
Mauro

Web site updated

Hello Fellows,
I have just updated the "The Parabellum is Back" web site (see the News area).

A new P08 made in 1945 in Oberndorf under French control resurfaced and then the list of the reported gun needs to be updated...

Cheers,
Mauro

Hello fellows,
a reader of our book reports another Luger Artillery made under French control in Mauser in 1945.
I am quite happy of this find, in fact it is a third variation (the one with the star :p) sn. 455.

I have in my collection the LP08 number 456 therefore it is nice to know that these two consecutive lugers are LP08.

Please refer to the web site www.theparabellumisback.com to update the chapter and table of the book with this new serial number.

Cheers,
Mauro

What made it more interestingly is that the interview was given by Mauro, in Italian, to the German reporter who also spoke fluent Italian. :)

A special pistol makes a world career
Second book on the Parabellum 08 presented in the weapons museum / international collectors meeting
by Elfi Roth

Oberndorf. Every year an international group meets at the weapons museum, this group consists of collectors and enthusiasts of the legendary Parabellum Pistol 08.
They come from Belgium, the Netherlands, the USA and from Germany. Former staff of the Mauser company are also there.

Last year the first book on one of the most famous selfloading pistols was presented by the authors Don Hallock (USA) and Joop van de Kant (Netherlands). That discussed the production of the Prabellum 08 at the Mauser factory in Oberndorf between 1930 and 1945.

During this meeting the museum leader Andreas Kussmann-Hochhalter was given a copy of the second book on the them by the authors Mauro Baudino (Italy) and Gerben van Vlimmeren (Netherlands), with the title "The Parabellum Is Back". This book discusses the production from 1945 until 2000 at Mauser and also refers to the company of Krieghoff in Suhl, wo also produced the pistol.

In both books several types of the Parabellum 08 are described in detail with many technical improvements that were implemented during the years, detailed and illustrated. The self loading pistol was developed by the Austrian Georg J. Luger, based on the functional principle of the C93 pistol that was developed by Hugo Borchardt, it was significantly smaller and more user friendly. The production was done by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken in Berlin. The first series production commenced in 1900 and it was introduced as army pistol in Germany in 1908.

The move of the production lines from Berlin to Oberndorf took place in 1930. Led by August Weiss, Mauser produced about a million Parabellum pistols until the end of World War 2. In 1970, at request of the American company Interarms, Mauser took up production again. In the weapons museum a commemorative pistols 1971-1991 is on display. A jewel for collectors and enthusiasts.

Not a bad idea, Gerben! We need to get the facts about Lugers produced after Mauser shut down their production. The Houston Lugers, the ones made by Mike Krauss, The Norinco prototypes--all are steeped in misinformation and urban legend, to some extent at least. The update's info about Herr Werle's pistols is great, but it may not be as handy for the European authors to research the pistols made across the Atlantic, so I think it may be mostly a job for a North American...

(Also, thanks for the newspaper article. Now I have seen a photo of Gerd Schön, and know what he looks like!)
