Borchardt on Gunbroker
This should be interesting to watch. The seller doesn't have any feedback.

Interesting that the seller has no previous sales on GB.

Something smells like kapusta! 4 pictures for such an interesting gun. Includes the case but offers no pictures!! Finally no Reserve....
|
I think the case he is referring to is the holster.
|
Still Kapusta!!! PS Thank You

Oh, I guess we both forgot to mention as with the gunbroker deal it might not smell good.

Kapusta is Polish for cabbage. It became a household word in the 1950s when Ernie Kovacs' comedy televison show featured the "Kapusta Kid"
I don't know why this gunbroker deal is getting a bad rap. I have never sold on gunbroker but if I did put up some of my guns, having no previous sales and no feedback, would I receive the same comments? |
No reserve, started at $.01, 7 day auction?
Seems kind of strange on a rare item. |
Could be bogus, but could also be that the seller isn't very auction savvy and thinks the rarity of the gun will run the price up into the stratosphere. It will be interesting to follow this.
|
For Me it was the total lack of description and only 4 pictures of such an interesting luger. other have to feel the same due to lack of interest. I might start the bidding tommorow with a $1000 bid!
|
Looks like it may get enough "buzz" on the forums to get the bidding driven up. I see Horst Held, a dealer here in the DFW area, is bidding on it.
Eric, I agree. Anyone used to Gunbroker has seen a lot bigger production over run of the mill items. |
According to the sellers added info the barrel is mismatched... #1618 with the frame and other parts #1681. I wonder if it is a typo, or if it is actually mismatched?
|
I think it is a typo.
|
We all start somewhere when dealing on gunbroker. I have only like 12-15 positives and on auction arms only 1 or 2?
I have seen far worse pictures, far less pictures and far less description from someone with no feedback. so, to me, I don't let this run a red flag, a yellow flag perhaps when no feedback. |
Bidding went over my budget already... :(
|
Its a good way to get exposure by causing us to start a long thread on his sale! Its already over $8k.
|
I am betting Horst would bid it up that high, and probably more. I figured it would go over $9K pretty quickly.
|
Over 12k and still 2 days. Well over $15k Ill bet! Has anyone seen any other surface recently?
|
Wow! It's 7:53 A.M. and it's already up to over 12K!

The gunsmith number (256) 259-2693 that is listed in the Borchardt ad, appears to belong to Heather Rice, 218 Green St, Scottsboro, AL 35769-3224. I am contacting the seller to clear this matter. |
Item is sold.
Did he end the auction early I thought it had a couple of days left? |
Either someone offered more money and they ended it early or something fishy going on?
As that is not correct ending times for an auction ;) (besides the lack of days) It would ahve a later time than the start, NOT an earlier time... Ed Start 7/19/2010 7:22:35 PM ET (This is a 7 day auction) Ends On or After 7/23/2010 6:56:51 PM ET |
Like I said in the begining, "Something smells like Kapusta"!

Mike - Was that your winning bid??? What did you find out??? |
Anybody want to bet this gun never changes hands?
It sound like the ol' "get a friend to bid it up until it's stratospheric and any legitimate buyers drop out. Then when you really want to sell it, the ad reads "last sold on Gunbroker for $XXXX" |
The last Borchardt auction I followed (and bid on) went for ~$9000, IIRC...Alvin had a thread w/link to it...Can't find it now... :(
I dropped out at about $2700, IIRC... :p |
I think the seller owes a percentage of the final sale price to Gunbroker. I beleive it is 3%. He can't just tell Gunbroker I ended the aution, and didn't sell it.
|
And probobly an appology to everyone!
