So the rumor that I heard saying it was bought by an Arab prince is, obviously, not true. There were other versions, but most likely not true either.

I was not aware that .45 Luger serial number #2 had a safety chip damage on the left grip! See the link to the photo in post 1.

On the photo it also looks like it has a small dent in the bottom of the trigger guard.

My dreaming gun is not one that I cannot reach, my dreaming gun is one that I can reach but would take some effort. This one does not fall into my verion of dreaming gun category.

Having said that, it's still good to know the background of this famous piece. Have a story to tell?

Hi Alvin, In Jan's "Central Powers Pistols" there is a lengthy discourse, with illustrations, on the two .45 cal. Lugers thought to be genuine, the Aberman and the Norton. Gee, how I would love to have a Luger named after me! Regards, Norm

Just read the execellent presentation on CPP page 424 - 435. So this is Aberman, with a minor chip on left panel.

Be honest, .45 Luger is not pretty, at least not as pretty as standard 9m/m, let alone comparing with classical appearance of those early 7,65 Lugers. It's not unlike Shensei .45 Broom -- parts were enlarged for function, but designer lost his sight on beauty.

But that's unimportant, rareness and provenance guarantee its hotness. Buy one to consume some ammo, I'd like to represent President Obama to thank you contributing to U.S. economy recovery :)

This ex-Abermann #2 .45 caliber "test" luger (the REAL .45 test luger had a different grip angle) is indeed for sale at auction March 14th, Greg Martin, Anaheim. Contrary to what was posted above, it is not currently owned by Zomber/Ellis but rather to a deceased collector whose family wants to remain anonymous. It passed through a few hands at considerably under the original Abermann price of $900,000. Rumors of its joining #5 in the Norton Museum are merely rumors. It will be interesting to see what it sells for or even if it meets the reserve price in this conservative market.

See Central Powers pages 424-435 for correct serial information on the gun in the Norton Museum it is not serial number 5.

I have been many times to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena CA and it has no guns on display.

But through some arrangement, I did get Buller's 6-shot CH.

[Edit] Having said that, I like the French dealer marked prewar SRH in this session. Struggling and torturing myself in mind. Probably will skip though, it's still a prewar small ring 140m/m after all. But I like that marking. You see, struggling like this.

I sold a few guns to raise fund for a C96 lot (really nothing in this kind of auction). It goes too high to chase. Say good-bye and wait next session. Good news is that I don't have to sell further :) Breathing.
