Hope I did OK on it. I also have the name of the vet who brought it back. He is still alive and lives in FLA. The story was his unit occupied a town where apparently there was some type of command post. While searching a house his squad leader emerged and told him and his buddies that if they wanted any souvenirs there were plenty inside and too have at them. On a table inside was the Luger Rig above, so he took it. At least thats the story.........Regards Jimmy

The only wear points are the very tip of the muzzel and the high spots of the side plate. Other than that the blueing is perfect.

Thanks so much guys...............I was affraid I had paid too much for it at the time but thanks too you guys, I may only have bought a few years too early. I have spent hours just looking at it, you know kinda letting it talk too you. I am going to mate it with a SS NCO belt and nickle silver buckle dated 1935 for display purposes. The dealer had 1 other luger with a single matching mag and no holster a 42 marked 40 I believe for 1300 that I have been thinking about going back for. The gun was 95 percent blue but I gotta recover from this one first...............Regards Jimmy

We are naturally always interested in how the market for our collectables is going !

I notice the lifting strap is missing from the holster . It probably wouldn't worry you , but "Holster Repair" on this forum may be able to help you with it .

ATTN raygun: When all was said and done, I have 4100 in the whole rig. My philossophy was where was I going too find another so complete in that condition. Although this was my first WW2 era pistol, I have looked at and admired Lugers for years and never seen one this complete in this state of preservation so I had too have it. The chances of having to upgrade it are minimal so I never have to buy another Luger to better this one. I do plan on aquiring a so called "black widow" at some point but thats down the road apiece. I also like the P38 series. Thank God they are still reasonably for the most part....Regards to all Jimmy

Thank you my friend...........it has rapidly became my favorite hand gun, even though it will never fire another shot, at least not while I am alive. It is amazing that it survived from 1936 till today in such a remarkable state of preservation. As I have the vets name who brought it home is there any way to research WW2 Vets online......Thanks Jimmy.

I am not a big fan of Third Reich Lugers, but you have acquired an outstanding example. Your Luger brings back memories. Looking back to my collecting beginnings, my first Luger was a byf coded Mauser in the condition of your gun, also with a minty holster and two matching magazines. Beginner's luck knows no generational boundries. (Just to rub it in, mine cost $35.00...but that was in 1957)

Even though I have settled in on Imperial era Lugers, I still appreciate a true gem when it surfaces. Congratulations, even though it may have been a little premature your $4100 was well spent, and the market will overtake that number before very long. You would be very hard pressed to find a better one and I hope you enjoy it for years. Put some Connolly's on the holster and get Jerry to replace the lift strap.

I know I bought a little early but my rational was where was I going to find another set as complete and condition wise. although this was my first WW2 vintage handgun I have looked at and admired Lugers for many years and have never seen one with BOTH mags and same date holster, not too mention the condition. I do have some Connolloy's on the way as I understand this is the best for antique leather. Also, how can I get in touch with Jerry to discuss the lift strap repair...........Thanks Jimmy

Jimmy, I would not be anxious to slather any Connolly's or anything else on this holster. Particularly NOT the inside.
Perhaps judicious and sparing use on the hinge or the closure strap.
This holster looks in excellent condition.
My advice is to not put anything on it.

Ron -- How much was a Krieghoff or Simson in 1950s? I know I was born too late, just curious......

I canâ??t speak too much to the â??50s. I bought my Luger in the late â??50s (June 1957) just shy of my 18th birthday, so I was a newbie and had no basis for values.

In the early â??60s I was going to college and joining the Army, so my exposure to Lugers was pretty much limited to hitting the pawn shops rather than gun shows. I did run across a couple of fairly nice Krieghoffs that were, as I recall, in the $150 - $250 range (that was while â??ordinaryâ?� Lugers were still going for $40-$60). I never encountered a Simson.

By the early â??70s, the price of Krieghoffs had about tripled, and I still hadnâ??t seen a Simson. I have to admit that since I had already zeroed in on the early years, I didnâ??t pay much attention to the â??reproductionsâ?�!
