One Huge Raffle Help!!

Fellows, For those of you who have been around a little while, you know periodically we have a raffle and someone gets to win some really neat stuff for literally pennies on the dollar.

This Raffle is to benifit John Dunkle and Jen..His lovely Wife. The owners of this Forum we all enjoy so much. Not many of you have commented on this announcement in the Site Announcements section but please, take a few seconds to read what these selfless, generous and all around lovely people are up to.

http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthre...881#post131881

This has not gotten the exposure it deserves and I and Ed Tinker want to change that with your help!

Haiti is one, if not THE poorest nation on Earth. I am sort or Apolitical but I know a good cause when I see one.

So where do you come in? You my Friend are going to be asked to do a couple of things for the cause. Because we are all Brother collectors I know I can depend on some help here.

1. I need contributions of stuff to raffel. It can be large or small. A loading tool, an extra mag, a spare badge or medal, book, something people might want...anything you can think of that might be used so we can have multiple winners. This means more interest.

I will be donating what might be of interest to many..A 6" Imperial Navy Holster, carry strap and double mag pouch that I made in my shop. It's a pretty sweet repro if I do say so myself. You will have to find a Navy stock, cleaning rod and tool to complete it as I do not have these. Nice start though!
Any extra items recieved from you will be added to the booty pile .

2. Tickets will be $25.00 or 5 for a hundred. Remember, not only is this for a GREAT cause but you have a pretty good chance of winning something! C'amon, dig thru the couch cushions and scrape together 25 smackers..it will make you feel pretty good I guarentee it.

3. THE MOST IMPORTANT!!! Write a short note or copy paste this one and get EVERYONE you can think of involved!!! It's only going to be for ten days or at the most two weeks. We need to strike hard and fast!

Ed will hopefully give a few more details tomorrow about where to send money and whatever else he can think of.

If anyone has time or stuff to donate please contact Ed or myself immediately. We can use anything ya got!

Read what John & Jen are up to and that alone should be enough to spur you to action!

Thanks, Jerry Burney

policeluger 09-24-2007 03:15 AM

Can I just go ahead and send $25 now, and see what ever becomes of raffle stuff....as before in the great fire raffle, I will come up with some donation....

lugerholsterrepair 09-24-2007 03:24 AM

Howard, You are the first response of what we hope is many more. Thank you! Please send any money or items to donate to Ed. If you need his particulars I am sure he will make them available tomorrow! Somebody's got to be the Chief and he's it! Thanks, Jerry

John Sabato 09-24-2007 11:25 AM

Jerry & Ed,

Thanks for taking the lead on this... unfortunately, I have very limited time for the foreseeable future, but I will make time to participate and contribute... John and Jen Dunkle are amazing people... I encourage you all to read John D's posting.

Ron Smith 09-24-2007 11:29 AM

Cash sent... Will look for something to contribute.

Ron

Edward Tinker 09-24-2007 11:50 PM

I think it'd be better to random pick the winner, but the prizes would already be numbered, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc, and that way, I don't have to think too much. I have a friend who can come over and keep me legal and straight and maybe get them to do the packaging stuff. :)

Steinar 09-25-2007 06:12 AM

A great initiative :-)

Cash sendt, will no see what I can find to contribute with.

But there is one little pickle, it will most likely not arrive within 9 days from today.
Ed; because of this, perhaps it's best for me to send directly to the winner? Please advice what to do..

Fazer 09-25-2007 06:40 AM

Sent cash from Oz today. Hopefully it will get there in time. Not really sure what I have to donate, and if it would get there in time. What about a kangaroo ball bag change purse/possibles bag. Like Morgan, I could send straight to winner of they could wait a couple days for it to arrive there. I'll get one off tomarrow. Unless you think everyone all ready has got one.

Cheers........Chip

Edward Tinker 09-25-2007 08:24 AM

sending directly to a winner is acceptable, just send me a description of the item via PM and I'll add it to the listing.

Ed

Steinar 09-25-2007 09:06 AM

Great, will send a description once I have found something (at work now..) :)

Ed,
Paypal sent.

vtwoodchuck 09-26-2007 03:00 AM

Hi, $50 sent by paypal. Doug Bryer

Ron C. 09-26-2007 11:13 AM

Hi Ed,

Just curious how you are doing the raffle. Is it one prize per person? That seems like the fair way to do it, to give more people a chance. I wasn't clear on that, or else I missed it somewhere. Thanks!

Regards,
Ron

Edward Tinker 09-26-2007 11:20 AM

Ron, I have been waffeling :D Some "prizes" are worth less, I tried to group each line item as a prize? Shipping could eat up a lot of donated money (and paypal $1.03 per $25 transaction, $19.72 already), and 14 items shipped priority with confirmation is about $6.00 a shot, 14x6 = $84 by itself.

So, I have been waffeling, if we get a lot more "tickets" sold, then I think it makes sense to break it down, if not, then I don't want to divide it into 14 prizes that doesn't give as much money to the orphanage. Group it into 6 or 8 prizes?

BTW, this is the 3rd (maybe 4th) raffle I have done at the forum, so my fear of costs involved and time involved, shipping, emailing, etc is fairly well founded ;)

Opinions?

Don M 09-26-2007 11:54 AM

Check sent directly to Rennwish to maximize the bang for the buck. No need to include me in the raffle but realize it is a great initiative. Ed, raffle donors and raffle participants are to be commended.

Ron C. 09-26-2007 12:01 PM

Ed,

I think combining prizes from that standpoint makes sense! I think it would be nice if the winner paid the shipping also. Thanks!

Ron

the gunman 09-26-2007 01:12 PM

Ed my check in the mail for 2 tickets.

Thanks Richie Shavel

lugerholsterrepair 09-26-2007 01:29 PM

Ron, Don, Richie..And all of the ticket holders listed above! Many thanks my Friends! I hope you guys win something you want but no matter what, you have done a great thing...I know money is a little tight for most of us and giving it away is a selfless act. It is truely appreciated by all of us.
I don't give to too many charities because they use most of the money to beg for more. This is one that will use almost all of the money for it's intended purpose. Only costs are those Ed points out above.
Thanks fellows...Jerry Burney

vtwoodchuck 09-26-2007 02:26 PM

Hi, This is just a thought. I for one will be willing to reinburse shipping if I win any thing and also I will send the extra money to cominsate what paypal deducted on my 2 tickets. Doug

wlyon 09-26-2007 02:42 PM

Ed More than willing to pay shipping on anything I might win. Why not just state winners will pay actual shipping costs. We need to maximize the earnings. Bill

Steinar 09-26-2007 03:56 PM

I agree on the above, as much as possible should go to the cause. Just 100 bucks extra would make a difference for the orphanage..

(Since my package will be sendt directly to the winner, and therefore no loss for the cause, shipping will be covered by yours truly on that perticular one)

If the decision will be that winner pays, perhaps it would be more fun with many prizes? :)

lugerholsterrepair 09-26-2007 04:08 PM

Steinar, Yes, I will ship my Navy holster directly as well and cover shipping myself.
Ed is the Boss on this one so it will be up to him to consider any police. Thanks for the suggestions.
One thing to consider..it could be difficult to keep track of the winner paying for reciept of his prize. They would have to recieve it and reimburse Ed if he sent it or ? Sounds confusuing.
Jerry Burney

lew1 09-26-2007 04:45 PM

I think that the time to the auction is too short if you want to maximize the amount of money received.

It takes time for the word to spread.

lugerholsterrepair 09-26-2007 04:53 PM

Charlie, I am sure you are correct. We just do not have the time to linger. Ed is leaving for home and I am leaving for Yuma Arizona for the Winter. Maybe a bad choice on my part to have the Raffle now but I got carried away and didn't think it thru ...Jerry Burney

wlyon 09-26-2007 05:49 PM

After being involved in several raffles for our local civic club we have found a short time frame to be best. If it is a long time people tend to put it off and/or forget about it altogether. If short we seem to feel the immediate need to do something. We all procrastinate. Just my thought. Bill

Edward Tinker 09-26-2007 06:46 PM

I don't want to deal with secondary postal amounts; it simply is too much work for me right now. I'd have to send an email to someone, look up their postal, get a response, then await on shipping or have them send and hope they don't send it here to PA, because I am moving on the 17th of October. I don't have time, patience or time for it.

I apprecaite the cost savings / money, but need to keep this as simple as possible.

BogeyB 09-26-2007 09:51 PM

Money and goodies!

Ed,

Money sent via PayPal. I'm sending you two oversized toggle pins, 0.05 and 0.1mm. Good luck to all!

Mike:cheers:

MFC 09-27-2007 12:04 AM

Ed,
Add a new Repro. WWII Brown Luger Holster to the prize list. I'll ship to the winner at my cost.
Mike C.

Edward Tinker 09-27-2007 08:49 AM

Thanks Mike. If folks are going to ship something to a winner, send me an email, or I won't be able to keep track. Because right now I have had 3 folks say they are giving / shipping repro holsters and if I'm not shipping, its going to get confusing keeping track of PM's, and messages here on the board... ;)

Gary, received raffle ticket money and holster :)
