I just spent a very pleasant couple of hours with my friend Joe Evans who's forum name is "hopscotch". I posted photos of Joe's one and only Luger here not long ago. A 1938 Krieghoff that his uncle captured and passed along to him. He also has a couple of nice Radoms that I failed to photograph.

He also has a Persian Mauser which he purchased from a well known local Mauser collector and friend, who succumbed to cancer at an early age.

This is probably one of the most pristine Mausers I have ever seen, short of a couple of handling dings. With a matching issue bayonet.

I'll try to get back out to his "Country Estate"(running joke), soon and get some photos of the Radoms.

I tried to get a close up of the maker's marks on the glove snap for you to look at, but it didn't come out legible enough to post.

The gloves are WW11 German motor cycle that my got uncle got
after the cycle was dstroyed, he was on a tank destroyer. Ron and
I haven't seen any others like these.

The Picklehauben is a Prussian Guard Officer's. This is a mid war and the helmet is Vulcan Fibre which is an early form of plastic. The parade
tricter is either buffalo or yak hair dyed white which is the Prussian color.
The helmet liner is in perfect condition and is silk. Of the cockades, the Imperial is black, white, red. the prussian is black, white. For Ron's info.

The K-98 came from a close friend's estate who had 300+ K-98's plus a lot of other stuff which Ron and I would of liked to have had. It is an "unfired"
Persian with the matching bayonet. At one time, some of them, he had more than one "unfired", had the factory test fire targets. Don't know what happened to the targets. The inscription on the stock says "Infantry" and the serial number is 08870T. Made in Brno in 1309, which is either 1945 or 1935. Not sure of the year transciption.

One Radom hasn't been touched, but one has been reblued with some white repro grips. Actually I kind of like the looks of it. They are both 3 lever.

When Ron gets back out here on his Harley, he can take more pics.

I have a small collection of Pickelhauben and I really am impressed (read extreme lust!) with the Guard Officer helmet.

98/20 Persian Mauser Long Rifles
 

If you guys really want a Brno made Persian long rifle in the condition shown; go to Samco Global Arms website and scroll down to the bottom of the "Rifle" section.

They still have the truly unissued (not reblued) 98/29's for $ 650.00. Non matching bayonet is another $ 30.00 or so.

When I bought mine (5-6 years back??) they had these rifles "as new" with the matching s/n bayonet, test target and new sling for around $ 500.00 AIR.

And yes, all the "unissued" grade I have seen; were in the condition pictured above and/or pictured on Samco's site.

Samco claims 1930's manufacture -- I'm told they were made for the Shah of Iran's father (Mohammed Rezza Shah -- I think).

Think of it like this -- It's a heck of a lot less than a Luger of that period and in that condition!

Manufacture Date of Iranian Mausers
 

All,
The Iranian or Persian calendar (Jalaali calendar) was adopted on 31 March, 1925. That is, 31 March 1925 corresponds to the first day of the Iranian year 1304. My Iranian Mauser test target (bearing rifle S/N in Farsi) is printed (on the Czech half) "Tuska vz. 1309". Don't read Czech, but I strongly suspect this roughly translates to "Rifle Model 1309".

Wikipedia is wrong; these are not 98k's (short rifles). The so called Iranian Model 98/29 infantry long rifles (29" barrels) with their corresponding long bayonets would have been adopted/contracted for in the Persian year 1309. The first day of the Persian year 1309 is 21 March, 1930 (not quite 1929, but still close enough for 98/29 designation).

Obviously, these rifles were made by CZ (Brno) in the 1930's. In fact, my test target is ink stamped (faint, but legible) 8 IX 1934. Which I interpret as the Gregorian date 8 September, 1934.

I'm certain these were made for Reza Shah Pahlavi (Reza Shah the Great)who reigned from Dec. 1925 thru Sept. 1941. He is the father of the man we remember as the " Shah of Iran " (Mohammad Reza Pahlavi).

These weapons would have been companion pieces to the Persian Lugers. They are also "dirt cheap" compared to those Lugers.

Hope this helps clear up some of the of the confusion about when these arms were made.

Ron, it's a 2000. It's also had some minor mods since that pic was taken. Beach bars with chrome signal housing and the wires run through the bars. Stuff like that. I even made some engine bolt covers with nickel plated .44 mag casings. :D

I really should update my photos of it.

The first thing I did with it was to get some 10" Chubby bars and have the wiring run inside. I hated the 'switchboard' look. I also got the Power Commander 4 installed. Really made a difference. I can take my buddies Dyna-Lowrider in a hole shot, but at about the time I hit 3rd he's with me again. Too much weight to pull in higher gears.

Ron, I did buy a raffle ticket for a Hog today, I'd love to get one, but then I'd have to learn how to ride again (been many years since I owned a little suzuki :D)

It's a piece of cake. I hadn't ridden in nearly 22 years when I got my first Harley in '98. It was a bit shakey at first , but it all comes back to you when the adrenalin wears off.

Boys-Boys..Remember your age! Having ridden for decades I equate riding to handeling firearms. It's not IF it's going to acciedently discharge (crash) but WHEN.

It's a Suzuki here, for now. I've owned bikes since 196*--- Well lets just say a long time. I've had British,Asian,Italian,and American bikes. Although they were the least trustworthy, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for those old Brits.
