Poor behavior

Failure to act in an appropriate manner,..... , can lead one or multiple parties, into a general "free for all". There are numerous gun sites on the net, where you take your life in your hands every time you post there, and to be verbally assaulted, is par for the course. This will NOT be tolerated on the Luger Forum. I monitor most of the threads, even if I don't actually participate. Many times my lack of knowledge or experience prevents me from participating, so I take that as an opportunity to sit back and learn. I really enjoy it when two knowledgeable Luger buffs square off over a contentious issue, because those are the times when all the detail comes out, as each side struggles to prove his case, and I just sit there soaking up all that detail, storing it all away. But the minute one player steps over that line of respect for his opponent, by using language that is not conducive to harmonious dialogue, I'll come zooming in to lay down the law. Flames, sarcasm and general bad attitude will not win friends and influence people, so just don't do it.

hi Pappy, I am just 56 yo since 1st d©cember. shall I wait for 2035 to be granted with your congrats ? :)

policeluger 12-12-2006 06:13 PM

Whats next Pappy, SS#'s? .....Franks is right.

Pete Ebbink 12-12-2006 06:37 PM

Pappy,

Thanks for starting the Poll.

It will be informative to see the age break-down on Members who decide to reply.

You can also look at a Member's profile and see their Birthday...if they chose to add that info.

lugerholsterrepair 12-12-2006 06:53 PM

When I first saw this poll appear I expected there would be members who would find such information gathering objectionable. While it is an interesting subject, I suspect there will be little response just to satisfy a cursory curiosity. In today's World of suspicion about identities... and given the subject at hand here, there is sure to be more reluctance than compliance. Just a sign of the times...I would say that most of the old timers are just that! Jerry Burney

Edward Tinker 12-12-2006 06:56 PM

This is a common thing on other gun boards.

They have polls of age, polls of occupation, polls of have you been in the military, etc.

I think it is the XXX XXXXXs that don't want to reveal their age. :D
That said, it IS annonymous; except for the folks who responded verbally on the forum ...

wlyon 12-12-2006 07:32 PM

I cannot understand the concern about telling ones age? I'm 70 years old' ,married, veteran, 5 children, 7 grandchildren, retired forester, 5' 8" tall, 170 lbs. and sexy as hell. Did I forget anything? Bill

Edward Tinker 12-12-2006 07:38 PM

Your wife has a collection, better than "mine" :D

lew1 12-12-2006 07:42 PM

There is no slot for those under 18 years of age.

Steinar 12-12-2006 07:47 PM

..never looked at age as personal information.
After I recently found the first gray hears, I gave up the thought that one day I would grow up;)

wlyon 12-12-2006 07:52 PM

Ed Are you talking about the number of children or her depression glass collection. Bill

Steinar 12-12-2006 08:08 PM

Never understod the thing about collecting class..
I'm afraid that one day I would slam the door to hard, and spend the following night on the coach

Edward Tinker 12-12-2006 09:05 PM

Steinar (and Bill already knew), you've found me out. Somehow, I think it was Mom's collecting, but I have a thing for green depression ware. In the same vein, my grandmother had some very pretty ruby colored glasses, I had about 6 or 8 of them. In the fire all but ONE was destroyed. My good friend Ellie Burney had some from her (sister or aunt) and she gave them to me. I mixed my remaining one in with hers, so I never know if I am drinking from one of my grandmothers or a dear friends.

lew1 12-12-2006 10:44 PM

I have a set of Pink depression stemware that we purchased many years ago.

Now the stuff is too expensive.

Steinar 12-13-2006 07:03 AM

 ;)

I collect maps of the all countries and cityâ??s I have spent more than a couple of days in + I have little collection of various Suzuki Samurai's (known as SJ410/413 on my side of the pond), stored away on a barn in their original shape for no good reason..

Maybe I should look into the world of stemware as well :)

lew1 12-13-2006 07:43 AM

Also, I did end up with a china cabinet full of cut glass. Never purchased it as a few pieces came from my grandmother and mother, with most coming from an aunt.

Pappy 12-13-2006 10:18 AM

Oh and by the way.....

I ran the same poll over on THE 1911 Forum:

http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.ph...hlight=poll%3A

462 people voted and no one said "Whats next Pappy, SS#'s?" or "None of your business!!!!!".

No paranoia there. Jeez, give it a rest.

In 2035 I will be 100. Not sure I can give you congrats then!!! Good shooting...Pappy

Edward Tinker 12-13-2006 10:37 AM

Pappy, this is actually a quiet group, and both guys you commented on are great guys. You just hit a nerve, better to "let them make their comments" and not push more buttons. As they might take me out of their will (I am a young 46, (Bill, my weight is a secret, but less than Howards, but more than John d's :D)

Ed

PS: If you look at the age monitor above, it is actually very interesting. I didn't know there were so many "young" guys on the forum!

Thanks Ed. Those comments hit my nerve. Just not used to these types of outbursts.
I will remain a gentleman and be quiet...Pappy

Pete Ebbink 12-13-2006 01:57 PM

How about a similar anonymous poll asking :

How many lugers do you have in your collection ?

Pappy,

BTW...how does one set up a Poll on the LF ? Is this something only a Moderator can do or can a regular member set one up.

I cannot see this feature...

Pappy 12-13-2006 02:07 PM

Possibly. I also ran a poll on NightHawk Custom ownership. See:

http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.ph...hlight=poll%3A

But I'll let someone else start it. I'm still upset over the last one...Pappy

I did it and I'm the new kid on the block.
If I remember correctly, you need to start a new thread and there is an option to make it a poll.
Ah, I found it. Where else but FAQ. Big Big grin here!!

Pappy

Frank's comment could be conducive to harmonious dielogue. It all depends on how he defines the term.

policeluger 12-13-2006 05:09 PM

com'on guys......no one has asked me to play Santa yet.....remember Ed, my son has no interest in my Luger collection, as I am getting older, this is not the time to piss me off :)

Edward Tinker 12-13-2006 06:15 PM

:D SORRY (had to yell it cuz, uh, he's so far away!) Damn and I'VE been asked to play Santa on more than one occassion! ooops, maybe I chose wrongly, oh, wrong movie...

Steinar 12-13-2006 09:53 PM

It's getting close to Christmas guys, better be nice until 24th.. Santa is watching;)
Pappy, there are all good people here.. Dont be too upset. There is not much tradition for pulls here, probably because finding the 'enter' is a big enough challange.
Didn't know about this feature myself..

Ron Smith 12-13-2006 10:51 PM

Pappy,

We occasionally have disagreements. And we always manage to get over them.

We are , for the most part a family.

Abrupt statements in printed media are often either taken too seriously or are misunderstood, due to lack of vocalization and facial expession. Every such statement should be taken with moderation.

Ron

Hugh 12-13-2006 11:16 PM

Since we are all revealing our innermost sins, I will confess that I have a collection of "Made in Occupied Japan" china ware. :surr:

Edward Tinker 10-29-2007 12:53 PM

This is an old topic, but for those new collectors, you might be interested in seeing this ;)
