What's the lowest priced Luger?
I'm seeing some mighty high prices on clunker Lugers lately, so I am now wondering what is the lowest price a FUNCTIONAL Luger would sell for? Let's assume the parts are a total mismatch, the finish is zero or a poor reblue, the bore is shot out, the grips are junky plastic replacements (possibly cracked and/or chipped), and with an aftermarket mag. But it has all its parts and is in working order. If 9mm, my guess would be around $250, and if 7.65mm, I would drop it to $200. Anyone think I.m off base?

Aaron:
Look at the prices received for parts on Ebay, then rethink $500-600 Regards Ken D |
I have been looking for a while, and Ken is pretty right on. I have not seen a Luger of any kind for less than $400 for a long while! Could be wrong. But if i did, I would buy it. The best prices i have seen, have been right here on this forum. $200??? I don't think so! Hell, I just saw a non shooting TOY Luger go for almost that much on this site. Keep your eyes on, maybe you will get lucky. Thanks, And good luck. Sean.....
|
Well, Aaron has been buying and collecting for many years, one day I'll see his collection  ;)
Aaron, I would guess that $350-$400 beater 9mm and maybe less if pitted, maybe $350 pitted but functional run of the mill? A 7.65mm, I would say probably $50-$75 less... Anything just mismatched, is over $550 and closer to $650, but I have noticed that ones more than that that are reblued / mismatched run of the mill, do not sell on the forums.. Ed |
Well gentlemen, perhaps my guess is way off because unless a Luger is in excellent condition (preferably outstanding with 2 matching mags, etc., etc.,) I just keep walking and don't even ask the price. I'll have to start paying attention to the lower levels of Lugerology just to keep an up to date perspective. Thanks for wising me up.............

All of the real beaters are being broke up for parts thus reducing the number of complete guns raising the price of the low end survivors.
|
Aaron,
I,m also in Calif. and the prices I see in gun shops are mininum $600-$650 for Lugers in real bad shape. On the forums you get a decent shooter for $650. |
A certain Luger dealer has been buying 45-70 doggy, worn lugers at gun shows for years. That is 45-70 guns per show; for many, many years. Figure 20-35 shows per year.
Some of you may have even sold him some of your old lugers that no one else wanted. Nothing but mint and near mint stuff comes out the other end of his business. No wonder beater, shooter lugers are becoming scare and more costly. |
Aaron,
I can put together one similar to what you describe from parts on hand, but with a shootable bore. I wouldn't sell it for less than $450 plus shipping. The parts sold seperately on ebay would probably bring more!:banghead: |
I vehemently deny that any of my posts cast even the slightest aspersion upon those who find fulfillment in acquiring Lugers of less than perfect quality. I merely admitted to both a lack of interest and a degree of ignorance concerning such imperfect weapons. I suggest you peruse my writings more carefully and hope you will conclude that as one military officer to another, an apology on your part is in order. Should you decline, I will have no choice but to demand satisfaction upon the field of honor, and my seconds will call upon you forthwith. I daresay as the challenged party you will choose Lugers at thirty paces, and it is my sincere belief that since your weapon of choice will undoubtedly be a a deactivated British P08, I strongly suggest that you pay great heed to my insistence upon a redress of my grievance.
I remain respectfully yours and await your reply.......... Aaron S. CDR/USN/RET. |

Pipeman & C3006, let me see if I can dig up enough old rusty parts to make up a couple of junky shooters. Don't know when I can get to them tho, I'm snowed under with grip checkering, and it is the 2nd week of deer season--for all the good that has done me! Did get a wild hog opening morning tho.

:jumper: Ok guys, I got a 8 pt (eastern count) buck Friday morning, so the pressure is off and I can devote more time to other activities.
I have put together three parts guns. I just fired a magazine full thru each one and they all functioned flawlessly. These are parts guns with a few matching parts, but mostly mixed numbers. The bores are excellent. All have original functioning magazines. #1 - "1917 Erfurt" - Has some pitting on the frame, but has a nice shiney dip blue overall. SOLD #2 - "1916 Erfurt" - The frame has one of those "baked on" looking finishes that is flaking off in places. The receiver and toggle have nice original finishes. SOLD #3 - DWM 1906 Commercial - This is a 1906 frame (no stock lug) with an undated receiver. The frame is stamped L.A.7.4. on the front grip strap. The frame has minor peppery pitting, the receiver and toggle are not pitted and have original finish. SOLD Prices include shipping: #1 1917 Erfurt = $475 SOLD #2 1916 Erfurt = $500 SOLD #3 1906 DWM = $550 SOLD If you are interested in any of these guns, email me at hhclark@wildblue.net and I will send you pictures. |
Ya just like dangling newbie bait! Where do you come up with all of these bargains? I don't want to hear anyone complaining about no cheap shooters! Jerry Burney
|
Jerry, I am having trouble not saying I want one of the Erfurts....
trying to keep my mouf shut so a newbie or two can get one... Ed |
Hugh,
Did the 1906 frame number make it to the database yet? And congrats on the deer, sounds like a good'un--tender and tastey. --Dwight |
Dwight,
I'm not sure, I need a database to keep up with all of your databases! Probably not, as this was an extra frame laying in the bottom of my parts box. I think there are a couple more there also. What info do you want? I also haven't sent you the info on my C/RC Erfurts, will try to do that this week. :icon107: |
Anybody that wants a shooter better hurry up and jump on these.
I know I am. Congrats on the nice buck you got. Hope those armadillos don't eat it all up before you get some. |
Hugh,
If its just frames, the serial number will do, and if its marked GERMANY. If the safety lever is present and it is a type-2 (or a type-1!) thats good to know. Also if the takedown is numbered on the right. Also if its long frame or short. Hmmm, I guess thats more than just the serial number, isn't it? If it is just a P-08 frame, I'm interested in the number if it is 5-digit. Thanks much, and looking forward to the c/RC info. --Dwight |
Jerry,
Back when I had the bright idea of making baby Lugers, I collected up a box full of parts. Since that project has been abandoned, I decided it would be fun to put together several parts guns that newbies could afford for shooters. I could probably make more money selling the parts on xbay, but what the heck! Its almost Christmas and I'm in a good mood since getting my buck! Besides, I have my eye on a nice Colt Single Action that costs more than these three put together!! |
Colts?
Thats going to leave a mark in the checkbook! The madness never ends does it? Hugh,I'll need your mailing address to send that 6" barrel to. Thanks again. |
One down - two to go
:rtfm: I'm surprised they have lasted this long!
Where's all those crybabys bemoaning the lack of reasonably priced shooters? :banghead: I'll never have sympathy for them again !:grr: |
Hugh, a while ago I made that very comment... And I was talking about $650+ "shooters"...
Ed |
Come on guys,That kind of money for a tested shooter is going to be hard to beat.
If I had more money-instead of all these good looks ;) I'd take two of them off your hands. |
The 1916 is mine,I say agian you cant beat Hughs shooters. :)
|
I ain't no dummy. I'm not too proud to be called an newbie and not so dumb as to let one of those slip past... :D
Thanks again Hugh... :) |
Hey Hugh! It is Christmas Shopping time! I don't think my wife would like a shooter for Christmas, or my Mom. It is getting harder and harder sneaking the guns in, and the money out! Especially this time of year!
|
By the way Hugh, you would not believe what I had to do to get your artillery in the house! Does that make me a bad Husband? Sean....
|
Sean, honesty is the best policy... think of the heck you would have to pay if she found out about gun purchases that you didn't tell her about... just tell her the truth... that you are working on collectible investment firearms collection that will supplement your retirement annuity for her once you are gone... you can tell her that Lugers in particular have more than doubled in price in just the last 7 years... when this forum was started, shooters (russian capture guns just being imported) were plentiful at about $250 for the hand selected nice ones that were matching numbers...
