|
Be nice Ed, I couldn't get the photos to upload here, kept on stating that they exceeded the size limit. Granted, being that I've done this a whopping whole two times I'm no expert, but I can read. But, being the person I am, I will try again. Maybe if the weather cooperates and you get down here early enough we can go shooting. You were in the Army long enough so you might could disguise your northern accent and fit in with us southern heathens. :bigbye:
rk |
no worry, I kin fit rite inn :D
Seriously, you are doing good at the pictures. Nice shots, nice and clear, etc. I can show you or send you a program to downsize them if you want. Ed |
RK,
When I first saw your pic, I was surprised to see you with a Finn. Then I thought about it for a half-second and realized it shouldn't surprise me at all. I really like my M39... great shooter. Nice pics. Jack |
Looks like you had a great afternoon. Keep on! Have fun! I miss it. There is nothing more pleasurable than doing some target shooting.
|
Sure Ed, Ill try it. Jack, GW, I've never claimed to be a collector, shooter stuff is what I occupy my time with. I love the history in military guns, The Finn Mod 39 was made in 1941, VKT, and (gasp gasp, get out the glycerine capsules) is import stamped. It has an action smooth as glass, trigger breaks clean at about 5 lbs, I can still see the sights, even with cheap Russian milsurp it is very accurate. It with the AK are about the only two I don't reload. The Finns knew/know the true value of a skilled marksman with an accurate high powered rifle in defense of his country.
rk |
I've always thought it funny how an "import" stamp freaks out collectors. I think it should lower the value, but why would it lower the value to a "shooter" status ONLY???
Ed |
RK, here is a micrsoft tool that is free, it works ok, although I prefer to shrink pictures myself;

Ed, I'm not a collector, I don't know. I guess its beccause when they are imported there are hundreds of thousands imported and the infamous stamp isn't always placed in a discrete manner. We have all seen historical guns defaced by a stamp placed in a prominent location wich could have easily been applied in a less interrupting location. I never have figured out the value hierarchy of guns anyway. If I like it and can afford it I get it. Then next time out it will be on the range with me.

Isn't there a little redneck in all of us?
Jack, I apoligize, I was trying to reply with a quote and deleted your posting!
Damn, I am sorry... Ed |
"RK,
You being such a highly regarded member of the LF, I had you stereotyped as a "My-eyes-shall-never-fall-upon-the-sights-of-a-lowly-$175-milsurp-rifle" kind of guy." What in the hell are you talking about? I'll take your comment as sincere but believe me, not so. Member yes. Simply because their requirements are so liberal and the feared/fearsome/fearless moderators haven't been PO'd at me all at the same time. I don't can't won't collect high end guns cause I can't afford it. Its sort of like every bachelor at the dance hitting on two or three high maintenance beauty queens. Fine. I'll lower my standards and have some fun with the rest of them. I respect the skill and knowledge of the true collectors, I appreciate their knowledge and the investment they have made, but its not for me. Thank you for the kind but undeserved words. rk |
Sorry...

Good question, please allow me to clarify... What I meant by "...it only took about a half-second to get over it" was it only took about a half-second to get over my stereotype of you. It was meant to indicate that I was the one holding you (and other LF members) to a ridiculous standard. In my defense, my realization hit after more like 1/10 of a second, but I rounded up :p . We are of like mind, my brother collector/shooter (as I'd imagine all but the stuffiest of LF members are). How do you think I feel? I'm a redneck with no trailer park in sight. I would actually get in trouble for marrying my sister around here :roflmao: . The whole "My-eyes-shall-never-fall-upon-the-sights-of-a-lowly-$175-milsurp-rifle" thing was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but it turned out to be more foot-in-mouth. The last thing I wanted to do was get you all bunched up over it. Please allow me to wipe the slate clean and start over... Hey RK, I like M39's too. Yours looks nice. I agree, they shoot great. Nice pics  . Jack |
Thanks Jack, we'll both just suffer indignantly with a smile while shooting those less than stellar uncollectable misbranded war horses. Something else, when you claim Alabama as your home a certain amount of deserved disrespect is both implied and expected. Good to get to know you

Rednecks, etc
Great photos RK. To solve your problem uploading them here dig out that owners manual and look up image size, size, quality, whatever it is and figure out how to reset the size of the photo. Go for the lowest size (quality) in my case its VGA or 640x480 (Nikon). Most all of the digitals come preset at the higest quality (size) which would require a monitor screen 36" wide to see it all even if you could get it to load up. Give that a try and see what happens, you won't need any photo editing program either. But then that higher setting would make a better portrait of that prom queen!

Hey Jack, I was trying to be funny, and say;
Hey, those $175 mil-surps are tooo expensive! :D |
My Sky 1940 Finnish will shoot great groops. It shoots much better than I do, but hell my Liberator pistol probably does too. Bob Benson

Wonder what is on the other side of them woods, there.
I think my kids was playin' over there. |
Looks Like Good Time To Me
|
My brother-in-law bought a cow that way. Didn't get much milk out of her, though, bein' dead and all.
|
Thanks for the concern Wes, but we are shooting into a bluff. The whole area is a 10 acre depression created by a huge cave falling in. It looks like a bowl with one side open. That side opens on the Tenn River. The walls are about 30'feet high and are made of limestone and granite. Plus we are shooting down into the base of the bluff at the field's edge where the dirt had been pushed up. The cows are in the pasture above us. So are the deer. I got two there this season.

I have a luger made of straw that I picked up in Haiti (along with a Vodoo doll). If you keep messin' w/ me, I'll take my straw luger, rub it on your image on the computer screen, and dunk it in water for a couple of weeks. Then check out your collection and see if you want to mess with me anymore :D ! Seriously, I'm just glad you don't work at NORAD... plenty of wrong buttons to push over there! Jack |
OOOOh, Computer voodoo. This can be dangerous stuff. I once met a woman that had a strip of cloth tied around her head and a stick twisted like a touroniquet. Where your hatband would be. She was holding it as tight as she could. She had called home to Haiti. Telephone Voodoo. The Priestess on the other end told her to do this for something like bad dreams or thoughts. She then dialed 911, made me come to her house, and said her head hurt real bad. Enjoy target shooting. Beware of voodoo. These memories only come back when..... True story.

I know that lady, she was a TV as miss cleo something or rather wasn't she??? :D
Jack, I applied, they said no.... |
Nice photos RK, but what I really want to know is what happened to all the empty beer cans that shoulld be in the back of that pick-up truck?
|
Carl, he is bringing them over to Duffy's for a refill.
:D Ed |

My only problem with that scene would be resisting the urge to give Darwin a helping hand... "Excuse me... Ma'am... maybe you weren't twisting hard enough?" :roflmao: . Jack P.S. The most accurate description of policing was provided by one of my mentors... "It's a front row seat to the greatest show on earth!" |
Beer? What beer? Nope, I'm just not too comfortable even down here driving around with a bunch of guns and empty beer cans in the back. Anyway, since I don't have a tailgate they all blow out. And I can't keep any beer around the house. My wife is from Germany. She drinks it all up. Medicinal reasons, of course.
rk |
oh, btw, this is the place I was talking about, great restaurant, and tavern, from 1819 !!
http://www.duffystavern.com/ And RK, don't let her catch you tellin' lies :D |
