SOG Lugers

When you order one of the SOG Lugers with the handpick option, can you request a luger with matching numbers? Will you get one with matching numbers? Thanks.

Edward Tinker 01-30-2005 12:15 AM

Bill welcome to the forum!

Yes, but I wouldn't count on real matching numbers. In SOG's defense, they will do their best, but if "force" matching by the east germans or russians, it is still "matching".

So, it is far better to buy a "shooter" here on the forum, or other places and get a matched gun for around the same price as SOG wants.

Bill,
Edward is 100% correct. I ordered a SOG Luger,handpick.
It was forced matched. all small numbers were pinged out.
And It had that BIG C.A.I. Import billboard on the left side above the grip.
Bore condition was terrible at best. Returned to SOG for refund.
As always, it is a 50/50 shot. Other forum members have gotten a much
better Luger than I got from SOG. SOG is a very good company. This is the only firearm I have ever returned to them.
For $275 dollars more, I found a nice Luger from a forum member.
Just my 2 Cents,
Stan

Thanks for all the information. I have looked at the Simpson Ltd. lugers, and they look 1,000,000 times better, but also a 1,000,000 times more expensive.

Pete Ebbink 02-02-2005 08:52 PM

Hi Bill,

Last time I looked at the SOG stuff...they were at $ 799 and higher.

Simpsons has this nice 1920 DWM commerical that looks like a great deal for just $ 100 more...

If I were hunting my first shooter, I would consider this one :

Bill,
if your looking for a matching shooter, I might be able to for about $300 less than sog

If interested e-mail me

Bill,
Be carefull! If Jim offers you a Luger. It will probably be better than he says it is. And you will have to return it for a refund because it's better than expected. This guy is shifty!!! ;)

Ron,
Thanks for the compliment, but I just had gun returned, I think because the person was expecting more for $. I was disappointed, but more importantly I didnâ??t want the person to feel I mis-represented the piece.

My family has been in the retail business all my life, and keeping your word is as important as the product or service youâ??re selling

Ron Smith 02-03-2005 12:53 PM

Jim,
Too bad that some of the bozos out there don't have the same philosophy. I know a couple of local dealers that can't understand that.
"Don't know why I ain't sellin' nothin'!" Word spreads fast amongst the gun nuts.
Have a great day! Ron

Do you have a web site or a store as I noticed you are in Florida?

Thanks.

NewToLugers,

Jim is a great guy. If you live in FL make sure to meet him somewhere like a gun show or RJ Gators. You can trust him.

The Virginian 02-17-2005 01:28 PM

Does SOG have any left? I got their flyer and they were not in there.

The Virginian 02-17-2005 01:30 PM

Hey, I would be interested in a shooter grade luger that did not have to be matching, just in decent shape with a good bore and serve as a shooter. For $300 less than SOG, how can you refuse? I am a C&R so if the gun is old enough, the transfer isn't an issue.

Lugerdoc 02-18-2005 11:02 AM

Virginian, I'll also take a dozen of those $350 lugers to part out. The parts value, if you can eventually sell them all, is about what SOG is now asking. TH

The Virginian 02-18-2005 12:55 PM

SOG is asking $639.00 for a "their choice" Luger, add $25.00 for hand select. If they were $350.00 I would have ordered atleast 2 by now.

The Virginian 02-21-2005 11:27 AM

SOG is sold out of the lugers, I called them today. Well, I guess I'd rather look for a better shooter anyway.

cgilbert37 02-21-2005 03:49 PM

Virginian,
They should have one more in stock- as mine was just shipped back there last week. It was a great shooter but you may seriously want to consider looking for something else. I was disappointed in my SOG Luger... :( But on the brighter side of things, I now own a beautiful and original G date bought from fellow forum member Jerry Peters!

The Virginian 02-22-2005 10:57 AM

Yeah, I think I am going to wait to see if I can find something better here on the boards. A nice parts shooter without the billboard sized import marks.

cgilbert37 02-22-2005 01:20 PM

Another place to look are gun shows. I'd never been to one until recently; however, there seems to be a lot of Lugers there. Just this last weekend, I was looking at a nice shooter (numbers matching), rubber grips, in fair condition for $575... SOG should process my return today or tomorrow if you still want to get one from them...

The Virginian 02-22-2005 04:42 PM

Here in Northern Virginia, prices are really up for almost everything since we live in an "affluent" area. Dealers from out of state or other parts of Virginia really mark up their stuff at NOVA shows just for our area. I am going to try going down to the Richmond show and I might do better, plus it is a big show. Since I am a C&R FFL holder, I might want to try NC shows for the same reason.

Karl 02-22-2005 09:50 PM

Gentlemen,

Rest assured that you can do better than the SOG lugers for less money. Below are a few that look good to me. Also watch the forum postings for good deals. KFS

Sopwith 02-25-2005 02:18 AM

I'd like to say hello, I'm new to this forum. I wanted a Luger all my life and don't yet have one. I'm not new to hand guns but know almost nothing about Lugers. I want a good shooter, the 1920 DWM commercial mentioned above looks good and the price is acceptable. I do want a matching gun with an excelent bore. I intend to shoot the gun so 9mm is preferable. Any suggestions?

Sopwith

Karl:

David Condon is a local dealer in Virginia, specializing in antique and collectible firearms is about a 40 minute drive from my house and this morning, after my breakfast meeting I stopped in and purchased the Luger that you posted a link for. His Luger was cheaper than the SOG Luger and of superior quality. Thanks for helping me find one in my back yard.

Karl 02-26-2005 10:28 PM

Virginian,

Good for you. I hope that your experience with this Luger inspires you to become a patron of the Luger Forum. We need your support and welcome your fratertinty. KFS

The Virginian 03-04-2005 10:58 AM

Yes, I intend to as I have learned quite a lot since being on the forum. It is a bit slower than some of the other boards I go to which have more activity, but the quality of members here is highier than some other boards. I hope that in the spring I will have the funds to go after more historical pieces, like an American Eagle Luger.
