Norinco Luger at Simpsons
 

Under the new additions today on Simpsons, they've got one of supposedly only 2 Chinese Norinco Lugers known, for 1995.00.....one wonders if this might be a gun that will significantly increase in value, or just be seen as an oddity?

I'd heard they made a few up, but couldn't have been very many.

I would think too low of a number to go way up in price. But I would not mind having one - just not the best time to do so :)

Speaking of the new additions, I kind of like that nickeled P.08 too...but not at that price. I always thought it'd be fun to have a nickel-plated Luger shooter with ivory grips. (Does this make me a bad person??? :-D )

I just couldnt muster myself to own one saying MADE IN CHINA on the side. Then again it would probably feed and eat the strongest ammo you could throw at it.

Cute! this is number 1002, 1001 resides in Belgium and I handled and photographed it for our book a few years ago. According to Norconia, the firm's representative in Germany, only 2 were made and one was supposedly damaged during tests.

I think every luger owner should have one :rockon:

Since the Chinese only made 2,they must have figured out even they couldn't make any money on a reproduction luger.

Too bad they didn't continue forward. Might make decent shooters if they went ahead with production. Did they also make a few C96 Mausers?

They can copy absolutely anything, and they can do it pretty well, long time ago I bought a Norinco 1911 second hand to say the least, it had been used and abused BUT did shoot really well.

I would also say that they sell a lot of their clones also because we seem to have lost our good taste for the "originals" ...

One day we' ll discover that they are reproducing even the Colosseum ... unfortunately :-(

Norinco's pistol always appears like a reblued one, even at NIB condition. Not only Luger, but also Tokarev -- even in new condition, it looks like ice-cream exposed in summer hot weather too long and starts melting. Some SKS also appears that way. I guess this Luger was made by a small factory in southern China (Norinco is just a trader, not a maker), sanded the gun surface heavily by hand before dumping into blue tank, so, with this appearance.

Those factories were built following Russian style, focusing on cost and basic function. If you tell them western commercial guns having better appearance, they would say, "well,,, they cannot build guns at my cost". Undeniably, that's an advantage. Regarding retail price $1995, of course, most of that $$ was not Norinco's profit. If it were so profitable for them, they would have continued making it.

I was kinda relieved to see it already sold....I was tempted! Granted, it has no German/Swiss pedigree, but if it is truly one of only two of a Luger variation known to exist, it should be a good investment.

It has not been marked "ON HOLD", so most likely it's still available. If like it, then buy it, IMO. In Luger context, relatively speaking, $2000 is not a huge number today. Any Luger with special points can easily priced above $2000. And, since it's listed by Simpson, they wouldn't lower the price every week, combined with supply being so limited, nowhere else to find such a piece. So, if like it, it's only $2000. Think this way: there are countless number of collectors having $2000 budget, but there are only two Norinco Lugers made.

No, the pistol is, and has been, marked sold, no changes.

Missed the marking at the bottom earlier. It did!! There are some people collecting Norinco. This is a special one.

Why Bother!

Way back when Norinco 1911A1 came out, I had the FFL (not any more), and I couldn't help myself, so I bought one BNIB. All I can tell you,......it's a GREAT 1911! Finish is "two tone", slide slabs are matt, the rest is shiny blue, with the barrel "in white". And in the last few decades that I own it, I did some heavy research on the piece (bought it in 1992).

Few American custom 1911 shops, prefer customizing Norincos. They report that the steel used for these is much better than most low end American 1911s (search and you shall find). Suposedly, the steel came from some railroad tracks that were pulled, and smelted. The pistol is made to EXACT 1911 tolerances, and most original Colt made parts will fit. Shoots great, and if I remember correctly, it was about $250 NIB from the distributor (CSI in Ontario, CA that doesn't exist anymore). I have less than 500 rounds through it, and it still looks like new. Came with cheesy plastic grip, which I threw away, and put a set of Pachs.

If that Luger was made by the same factory (as someone said before, Norinco has MANY production facilities under their name), and same quality control,......I'd be all over it.
