Some one I know no longer lives in the area of his safe, he wants to sell the whole lot as one so i can trying to come up with a resonable price for it all but this is the item of the most value. and with 1000's or variations made just trying to get some help. brian

With the lack of info. and better pictures I feel like I'm going out on a limb here but that's never stopped me before...
Assuming that it is all matching except mag, apparently original finish, decent bore, I'd suggest $1000 to get it sold. Probably worth a bit more, maybe $1300 to the last man out.

what more info would be usefull in the evaluation of this firearm? i have more pics and i can take endless amounts. yes numbers all matching but mag.

Get us some shots without the shadows OR glare, not an easy thing. The safety lever on the rear right corner appears polished. Yes or no? Is there a chip on the grip behind said safety lever? How about bluing wear on the grip straps front and rear. Any nicks, rust pits, chips or scratches? Function correctly? Do the grip panels and internals match? Any holster or tool, and is it the correct NM mag?
What I am seeing at first look is a nice run of the mill WW2 Luger. But I am not one of the guys with all the books and markings knowledge, so you can probably do better with them. I'm sort of meat and potatoes compared to the others.
Are you happy or disappointed in our valuation estimates so far? Lugers have lost some of their Blue Sky over the last couple of years, what with the economy in the toilet, lots of veterans moving on and the market being saturated. But they remain timeless works of art with some serious history behind them so they have held up fairly well. But the market is tight and prices just are not what they were.
Anyway, more info. will help, but tell us what you know about it too.

yes this is very good info for me to look in to detail about. the pics were taken from my cam phone through a 10x mag glass. and the lighting was from a crappy 75 watt bulb on a desk lamp. i will take more and beter photos tomorrow. and as for numbers matching all are the same, from what i can see on out side handleing, i dont know if i have the balls to tear this weapon down due to is not being mine. i dont know enough about them. but i will do some reseaarch before i even really think about it

I now have this firearm in my hands at my desk at home. but my digital cam does not take good pics with out glare and the flash sucks on it. i did take it apart and start to find even more numbers and markings all over the insides of this firearm.

Take it by the window on a cloudy day or out, kinda in the shade.

Another thing I do, is take it with a flash, but far away and zoomed up.

Using your macro next to the window or under an awning works really well.

Plenty of light and/or plenty of exposure is the trick (exposure is better than more lighting).

hmmm....if " the market is tight and prices aren't what they were", where DO you find these bargains?? if this s/42 were listed on Simpsons, FGS, etc, it would STILL have a $1800-2000
price tag on it

Sort of depends on whether they want to list it or want to sell it. Watch the listings here or place a wanted ad here. Collectors are forever selling pieces at fair prices to buy other shiney stuff.

checked Simpson's just now....an equivalent 1939 s/42 on there is between $2800-3000 !! bargains galore!

Some parts in areas of the firearm look like it has a brown finish. The rest of it looks blued.

Don't worry about some parts looking "brown" and others looking "blued" . This is absolutely correct for this model and date.

i took the weapon down as far as i felt comfy and i took pics of every angle and little stamp and mark and letters i could find. also i have never seen any one mention a word on the extractor. does thies serve as any signifcant mark? """geladen""""

Geladen is a sort of idiot light for the shooter telling him that the gun is loaded. Common for the German guns.
Regarding valuation, are you wanting more estimates than you have received already? I will hold on previous estimates. Maybe with gun in hand it could go up or down. Remember that Lugers, much like cars, motorcycles and homes, may bring one figure in one area one day, and something entirely different in another community the same day. In short, there may be no exact answer to value more than to say it is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay.

i guess a better question i could ask would be can some one please give me a % grade on the blueing and the straw. i can also put more pics up but i forgot how to
