Unbelievable
|
Its obvious that somwbody wants that pistol badly. However, it does come with box and papers, a holster and belt and is brand new. Sounds like a lot of maney but I have seen a couple of Modern Mauser Lugers without any accessories sitting on tables with the dealer wanting $1200 - $1400.

I had considered bidding when it was at about 1200 but when I looked at it and it was at 16 I couldn't believe it. I should have been buying all of these that i could several years ago.

These are real sleepers, especially the ones with all their original accessories, box, papers, etc...
Advice of a lifetime: NEVER throw the box away. |

I'm a little puzzled here, Steve...I saw your post and thought I'd wait and see what others said...but the replies still didn't clear up my confusion...
Do you think this is overpriced or underpriced??? (Talking about the price when you posted your thread; not what it may be now). I have no opinion on the matter, as I have no idea what it may really be worth... 21 bids so far...20 by the same guy...6 hours left...reserve met... |
Over priced. You should be able to pick this up for $1100+. Nothing special about this one.

Sold for $1600...To the 21st bidder...(There were only two)...Guess he wanted it bad...
|
Probably the bidder is also from California. Many sellers have "If you live in CA, please don't bid" clause in the text. If the seller is in that state, there is no such requirement. I bet it's a gun cycling inside the system. Under that assumption, this pre-Lehman-Brothers-crashing price makes much more sense.

Your statement is correct. This gun could not be imported to CA as it is not a C & R gun and is not on the current approved list of pistols that can be sold in CA. At this time there are no Mauser pistols on the approved list. That is why new guns sold in CA are limited to major gun makers. Not everyone wants to pay to have their guns "tested for safety" by the CA DOJ. A Mauser Parabellum would need a magazine safety and to pass the "drop test",even if someone paid the money for the official test. I was recently trying to purchase a used Walther PPK/S that was originally designed to be sold in CA,no joy. The current stainless steel version is on the list, but the identical gun in steel is not. If if I want one bad enough, I have to find a used one already in CA and pay whatever it takes.:soapbox: Bob |
That style may not on the C&R but the Swiss style is OK to import. I personally think that all 1970 Interarms are importable as C&R.

I've seen the Swiss style Luger sell between $1200-$1400 with box. To my knowledge, the 08 frame is harder to find and does command a higher price. I think it's worth the money paid considering everything that comes with it. As a collector, unfired in box with accessories always costs more. If I had the extra funds, I would have bought it.
Ones mans trash is another mans treasure. |
The truth is that the marketplace sets the price.
|
That's weird. I live in California and bought a 6" Mauser Luger about a year ago, I paid $1200. The seller told me it's a C&R and I could transfer it through my FFL dealer without a problem. What's the deal with that?
|
I guess it's not because he could not find a $1200 one if he keeps searching, it's because he does not want to wait or burn gas running here and there looking for it anymore. Maybe one day you sell it, it's tag at $1200 better price, first, he may not see it, second, even if he sees it, that gun does not neccessarily fall into his pocket. If he could take another attitude, say, "no matter where it goes, I can imagine it's mine", then life become much easier.
Just kidding. German style grip does demand a little bit more premium. === BTW, why do people want to pay $$ to hold a gun in safe, seldomly see anyone taking the above mentioned better attitude :) |
There are some of us who do not have a lot of time left, and if we see something we have always desired, and it is within our reach, then we will go for it, regardless whether it is a good deal or overpriced... :)

Once I read in this forum, one collector wanted a Borchardt 50 years ago, and waited 50 years to get it. Unusual, isn't it?
It took a while to find what's correct on Borchardt. In dark age, that's hard because so few guns exist for comparing (I bet there were not many of those even 50 years ago, not many were made at the beginning). Study and wait 50 years is very responsible way, but there is a problem, what's the price of Borchardt 50 years earlier, and 50 years later.... waiting this good 50 years, the price of this gun has been gradually pumped into five digits. Of course, this one is not Borchardt, and unlikely will become a Borchardt level gun. |
No what I meant was not the price but the C&R stuff :)
saab-bob was probably wrong when he wrote that Mauser Lugers are not C&R here in california, how else was I able to transfer it through a dealer? |
I expect that your dealer didn't know the difference between a Swiss style and a Mauser style Luger. Most non-collectors are not aware of the difference.

To Alterfritz et all
Trying to make sure that I post only factual info. I had a conversation with a nice man at the California Dept of Justice. I am pleased to report that I was wrong. :jumper: If a handgun is on the Federal Curio and Relic list and it is not over 50 years old,it is still OK to import it into CA. Assuming all other criteria has been met. After reviewing the Federal Curio and Relic list,it says that Mauser Parabellums manufactured from 1970 to 1978 are C & R guns. Sorry for the confusion.Thats what I get for talking to a so called "expert" and not checking for myself.:surr: Trying to keep up with CA gun laws is such a joy!:banghead: Bob |
