A message to the Ebay police

I was checking some of the Luger items up for auction at Ebay and came across this guy's listing for a Luger manual. At the bottom he added this. I love it. :D

NOTICE TO EBAY POLICE: Thank you for cancelling all 18 of my auctions in one swoop in late 2006 for a minor rule infraction of Ebay's ever-changing user agreement (verbage, same phrases I've been using for years). I do wish I had the time to check the user agreement every 10 minutes to review the most recent bans, restrictions, and dictates, but alas, I do not. Let me assure you though that I have rewritten every single description and eliminated the objectionable phrases and "key word spamming" you accused me of, your interpretation of my heinous violations of the "fee circumvention policy", all links to my website you didn't like, and I now don't eat meat, have thrown away all fur in the house, and I am sensitive to everyone's feelings. I have even taken the manditory tutorial you imposed (yes, Ebay made me go to school!). I am a good man, fully briefed now, sensitive and in touch with my softer side. So, if you would be so kind -maybe the next time you might give me the courtesy of a warning or some advice before you go out of your way to find something you don't like in the auction description as a pretense to cancel them all. You might just consider that it is thousands of little guys like us buying and selling that keep ole' whats-her-name at the top of your corporate "community" ladder.

Great!!! Funny but sadly true. Should be required reading for all ebayers Thanks for sending it. Bill

Mike B 02-01-2007 09:09 PM

Bill,
It is not only in the Luger community. Although I am a Luger collector at heart, I do have other interests. I listed a Bulova Accutron. The listing was removed because I used the word " Bulova" illegally. Ebay said I was trying to infringe on a brand name that did not apply to the item I was selling: that Bulova and Accutron and were not related. WOW did I come unguled. I eventually prevailed, but it took an act of Congress to allow me to use the words together.

A great notice:)

I think ebay should have hired more people to go trough auctions BEFORE they become listed, and give the seller a chance to fix up or dispute if there is any disagreement. My guess is that they are earning enough $ to do so.
Just my two pfenning..

Another concern for me now is the safety, my user Steinar*** got hacked two week ago! It seems like some guy got into my account and messed around there the best he could.. Luckily nothing bad happened, since I was not selling at the time. (only changed the address to San Paulo and such..)
But since I'm about to sell quite a lot of K98 parts and the remaining Luger pars this weekend, I created a new account, Vintageluger.

stefanosg 02-02-2007 06:30 AM

This is a little off the subject, but I saw a snail magazine for sale on Ebay. Since it is greater than 10 rounds, how is it the censors let that one go?

Steinar 02-02-2007 07:12 AM

Stefanosg, the censors let many things go.. simply because they don't have the capacity to check everything. But most snails I have seen on Ebay, has been removed after a few days.
By contacting the seller with full email address before the auction ends, the buyer could still have a chance to get it;)

Brent B. 02-02-2007 09:54 AM

I saw the snail drum and emailed the seller to warn him that the ebay cops might cancel his listing and to be sure to contact all bidders while the listing was still active. I haven't checked it this morning to see if it made it all the way to the end but I know they cancelled my "black dagger" that had only 2 hours left to go. I was able to finish the sale thru earlier emails. I had the snail drum on my "watch list" so it'll be interesting to see what it sold for.

I'm also wondering if they won't cancel the Luger Manual listing thinking his writeup was blasting them.

Brent B.

Brent B. 02-02-2007 10:38 AM

I talked to the seller of the snail drum and it sold for $1,378 by then ebay stopped the auction after it had closed. I would imagine they contact the bidders and tell them they don't have to complete the sale. Brent B.

lew1 02-02-2007 03:17 PM

I saw one that was listed and emailed the seller for pictures of the other side. The seller responded that it was a repo and also that additional pictures were going to be posted. Have not checked further on it, but I guess I should.

lew1 02-02-2007 03:21 PM

Just checked and this one is still listed. The seller, response to questions, has posted that it is a repo and will not hold 32 rounds.

Steinar 02-05-2007 02:34 AM

It's good therapy to share frustration with others.. so here it goes..

TWICE this weekend, my auctions containing my last items where closed. First under 'VintageLuger' wich I created due to a hack-attack at steinar***, then I tried to post them under Steinar*** to see if that helped. But same thing happened there as well. I chose not to believe that forum members have written a false complaint to Ebay, simply because I feel this forum only consists of good honest people. Think the people here are rased over such methods of 'geting back at someone'.
There is some work involved in posting auctions, my frustration is aimed at Ebay alone. How they can delete auctions without looking into them, is far from the most basic costumer service to except from any company.
..and while they where at it, why not remove the 1.5kilo lot with K98 parts as well..

..phef.. it helped releasing that steam;)
I never keep an :( for long.. If I find out just before I die that I spent my life with a sour face.. I would be realy :grr: ;)

Steinar
Which of those parts violated any of there policys? They are all sold there everyday. Can you not appeal and ask them for clarification? clint

Steinar 02-05-2007 08:06 AM

Who knows Clint.. perhaps the prings can pop up and hit someone in the eye, and the pins can get stuck in the throat if someone tries to swallow them?

SteveM 02-05-2007 10:47 AM

Seinar,
Here is the policy:

eBay permits listings of all other legal gun parts and accessories, including trigger guards, firing pins, barrels, stocks, butt plates, trigger assemblies, pistol grips, holsters and scopes. Listings for such items must clearly state the type of firearm for which the part or accessory is designed. If this information is not provided, the listing may be ended.

Sounds to me that they have a hard-on for you..your items listed do not violate any of their policy.

c3006 02-05-2007 06:51 PM

I wish there was a better option than the Ebay twits but I cant find it if its out there. clint

ahhhh, i was "looking" to see what you had, and some were there and then gone..... I doubt anyone complained, although you never know, there are some odd folks around. :( I hope it is nothing like that, and assume as you did that ebay was watching right then? I had a new in box of Windows server, it was cancelled last winter a year ago, they never gave me a good reason. Ebay said that I'd done something wrong, there were another 20 or 30 of them on ebay at that time, so made me think it was "someone"...

Clint, I felt he same way, wish there was another avenue, as I'd rather sell / buy somewhere else than ebay...

Steinar 02-07-2007 02:38 AM

Received reply from ebay, actually two replys. Wich makes it twice as funny;)
I sent two identical complaints since it happened twice within the same day. In the first reply, the message was clear. I had clearly violated the Ebay gun policy by listing such items..

The funny thing is, from my other complaint, on the Steinar*** account, the reply was completely opposite! They regretted removing the auctions, and promised that will not happen again.

c3006 02-07-2007 06:22 AM

I cant belive it didnt say (we are so busy stacking up our money we dont have time to worry about your complaints)

DCCUK 02-08-2007 10:57 AM

snail drum

snail drum and it sold for $1,378....
is that a fair price or ebay gone mad?
whatever - I've given up with ebay from the UK - just too much aggravation.

But, $1,378 - that's about what I paid for my P '08 and it came with a free Webley Mk VI!

Don't you guys have the equivalent of "Guntrader" in the USA ?

Hi C3006 Clint - when doe it start warming up in your part of TN?
I'm planning another trip down to see my Brit pal in Morristown....
maybe we can persuade him him oughta buy a gun as he now owns a house in Tn - isn't State law yet? i.e. mandatory?

I keep having this feeling of dejavu.. not sure if there something I'm missing?

-If these parts are illegal somehow.. why are only mine getting closed down?
-I have always paid my ebay fees on time, no unhappy customers (as I know of), why the hard on?
-Excactly what is violating Ebay firearm policy's?
-Why isn't all my auction's closed?

The sale of weapons is highly regulated by the government, and these items can harm the eBay Community. For these reasons, eBay restricts the sale of weapons to a very few types, and these sales can take place only under very specific conditions.

For example, members are permitted to sell certain legal gun parts and accessories, including:
- Barrels
- Butt plates
- Holsters
- Firing pins
- Pistol grips
- Stocks
- Scopes
- Trigger assemblies
- Trigger guards

However, the sale of certain parts and accessories are prohibited by California law. As a result, certain types are *not* allowed on eBay. These items include:
- Products that work with short-barreled shotguns or short-barreled rifles
- Fully automatic weapons
- Large-capacity magazines
- Multiburst trigger activators
- Camouflaging firearm containers

Sellers are also not permitted to list the following firearm-related items:
- Silencers, including airsoft, replica, or toy silencers
- Converters (items that provide automatic capability to firearms)
- Kits that allow users to build illegal, firearm-related items such as firearms, flares, flare launchers, flare guns, flare gun receivers, silencers, and short barrels

Please note: violation of this or other eBay policies may result in forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings, limits on account privileges and account suspension.
