Mec-Gar Source
I located a very limited supply of Black Mec-Gar magazines at www.SportsmansCorner.com Telephone 1-888-534-9980. Apparently, as indicated in an earlier msg, Mer-Gar is shipping a limited production run of P08 mag.

It has scrolled off the bottom now...
but Doug made a posting on 7/31/01 saying he had Mec-Gar mags for sale @ $21. Do a search to retrieve this message.

Received Two from Doug. They look very good. (EOM)

2 left...
...but, Bart is trying to locate more! $18/ea... not too shabby... eh? These are the *MGLUG08B*s NOT the *TRP49M*s.
|
Re: 2 left...
OK. What is the difference between the *MGLUG08B*s and the *TRP49M*s ????
|
There are two Luger mags...
@ the web-site. The "MG" is the 8 rd Mec-Gar. The "TR" is a 7d mag. It's just the item #.

Re: Mec-Gar Source
I have 22 new Mec Gars left at $21ea. I suppose that if you bought a lot I would give a discount. I spoke with my supplier and have 24 nickel mags on order and expect them soon. These are going to get scarce again as Mec Gar only produced 5000 mags for the whole year! I am going to post some pics comparing the old mags and the new ones soon.

Re: Mec-Gar Source
I have some blued and some nickel Mec-Gars, and in my experience the nickel ones are better shooters.

Mec-Gar vs. Triple K
Does anyone have any experience (or anecdotal data) regarding why anyone would logically choose a Triple K over a Mec-Gar or the other way around? Just curious.
|
Re: Mec-Gar vs. Triple K
I have several of the Mec-Gar blued/blk plastic bottom mags and have generally been pleased. Recently picked up two nickled wood bottom KKK mags at a gun show. They are very nice mags and function flawlessly. I like the appearance of the nickel/wood Mec-Gar better because they don't have the spot welded seams and have a metal follower whereas the KKK has a plastic follower.

Forgot to mention
![]() The spring in the Mec-Gar's is the old type round one, whereas the spring in the KKK's is the later type zig-zag one.
|
Re: Forgot to mention
![]() Hugh, I'm confused. I know 3K makes a wood bottom mag, but are you saying Mec-Gar also makes a wood bottom?
|
Re: Mec-Gar vs. Triple K
My opinions abouth the mags.
I prefer the Tripple K mags cause they have the smothest feeling I ever have felt on any mags (only the SS type, the blued are terrible) My Tripple K have worked very good and I am very pleased. But I have my Tripple k mags to shoot with, not to look at. The tripple k's looks a bit cheap. Regards HÃ?Â¥kan |
Re: Mec-Gar vs. Triple K
Hakan, if you go just by the appearance of the Triple K mags you would never think that they could even work, let alone work well. You are right, they look really cheap. Plastic followers in a Luger just don't seem to go together. I have not done any shooting with the Triple K but have cycled several pistols and they seem smooth.

Re: Forgot to mention
![]() Don,
The nickel plated Mec-Gar that Ted sent with his Luger to be converted to a baby has a wood bottom. That is the only nickel Mec-Gar that I have seen, and assumed it was original, but it may be a replacement by Ted. |
Re: Forgot to mention
![]() I fired a hundred rounds or so through a 3K several weeks ago. It was in an extremely finicky PO8, but I didn't have a single problem attributable to the mag. My only hangup is that they do indeed look cheap, like it came from a cap gun Luger instead of one of my very serious, ominous, lethal REAL Lugers.

Re: Forgot to mention
![]() Yes, it was one of GT bottoms!
|
Ted...........
That explains why I liked it so much that I replaced it with a cheap plastic one and kept it for myself!
