Matt-Hartverchromt Mauser Parabellum
 

Hello Fellows,
I am very glad to show this absolutely interesting Matt-Hartverchromt Mauser Parabellum . This pistol has been ordered in 1971 and released by Mauser in 1972. The pistol is in 9mm and it is dated 72. I just received it and let me say that was a quite expensive deal :D.
Now this pistol has a great collector interest for the following reasons:

1) First of all for the chrome finished: Mauser produced only few Parabellum chrome finished. The fact that this pistol wears the ivory grips and the gold plated â??small itemsâ?� increases the collector value. Note that also the Mauser Banner is gold plated.

2) The pistol is a transitional model (29 and half model). In fact it is dated 1972 and it is a mix of 29/70 and 06/73 parts. According to Mauser it was possible to order pistols with the â??P06â?� frame in the late â??71. But Mauser started the normal production only in 1973. Note that this pistol has the frame and barrel in 06/73 configuration but the trigger, the side plate, the safety lever and the take-down bolt in 29/70 configuration.

3) The following internal parts are numbered with the last three digits of the serial number:
Rear Toggle, Side Plate, Breech Block, Safety Lever.
Now I guess you remember that I have opened a topic concerning the internal numbering. Up to now, I was convinced that Mauser numbered internally only the rear toggle link in the early production and in the late contracts (like the Bignami contract) the previous aforementioned parts. Now this pistol belongs to the early production and has the aforementioned parts internally numbered like the late production. It means that Mauser, for the entire production, applied different kinds of internal numbering: Nothing, only the Rear Toggle or Rear Toggle, Side Plate, Breech Block, Safety Lever.
Why Mauser applied these different rules is hard to say but I guess that it is mainly related to the stocked time and to the â??qualityâ?� of the pistol.

Now it seems that in the first catalog these pistols were described. Do you have a Mauser catalog of that period that describe this variation?
If you have the Allan's book you kind find a description of these models in the letters Mr Kornmayer exchanged with Mr Allan. These letters are at the end of the book.

Hi Mauro,

John Walter shows a matte chrome finished 06/73 with serial number 11.010042 in his 1977 'Luger' book. This has a combination of a chrome finish and blued small parts, including the front sight.

You are right, as far as I know it was possible to order these pistols with either "black" small items or gold plated one.
At a certain point it seems that Mauser stops using Chrome finish and starts using the Nichel finish. I am not really expert in this matter, there is a particular advantage in the Nichel finish or it is only an esthetic issue.

Sorry, just reread the description and I see it is 9mm. Is that O.K. in Italy?

The advantage of nickle over chrome is the look. To me it's a classy finish. It has a much warmer look to it than chrome.

you are right in Italy the 9mm in forbidden but I am leaving in Belgium and here this caliber is allowed.

Similar one offered for sale on this DE web site...in their Mauser section...says it is still disassembled...maybe not chromed but only "in the white" with gold parts.

I know the owner (so does Mauro), he purchased most of the leftovers when Mauser quit the pistol business. He kept some nice souvenirs and sold most of the small parts to several German companies.

I know very well the pistol you mention. Actually this pistol is simply not finished. The owner bought this unfinished pistol together with some other pistols and spare parts when Mauser ceased the production in 1999.

The small parts are not gold plated but there is a gold plated line that follows the pistol.

I know this pistol because for a while I thought to buy it, but you see the price is quite high for an unfinished model.
This pistol is absolutely interesting because his serial number is in the range of the special production: 11.001000. This is why I was wondering to buy it.

In the end, I bought the Mauser Ivory Grips, now associated to my Mauser LP08, and the gold plated attaching iron. Another German collector bought the other parts with the purpose of finishing the pistol with special engraving.


Therefore the pistol is no longer available.

Hereafter another picture that shows the gold plated line of the pistol. In addition a photo of my LP08 that proudly wears the ivory grips that have belonged to the â??special productionâ?� 11.001000.

Concerning the Mauser ivory grips, so far I have the P08/LP08 grips, the 06/73 grips.
The next step now is to find out a 29/70 with special finish and ivory grips. In this way I will complete the "special finish" models.

Hello Guys,
I was so lucky to find out in Germany this nice Mauser leather case. This kind of case was used for several varieties of Mauser Parabellum (Special production, Commemoratives and Byf Refurbished).
I guess that my Matt-Hartverchromt Model should be more comfortable inside this nice case instead of the usual Mauser Interarms case (see previous pics).
