Jim, Thanks for your data. It's most appreciated! :)
|
I figured this would be a good opportunity for my first post.
byf 42 barrel #5963 no bore gage. "g" designation "Black Widow" all matching 98% with 2 matching mags and a dld WaA195 black holster |
Hi Ray, thanks for your data. I hope the 2 matching magazines are black plastic bottom "fxo" types without marks on the plastic.
|
No problem Frank. Yes they are black and fxo.
From what I understand, this was a set that had been kept together since its "liberation". Of course that and $4 gets you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. |
Hi Ray, thanks for the reply!

1942 byf
I have 3955 c no bore guage, black grips. can anybody tell me what month this was made
|
After looking back at post# 128 it appears that the c is an L in my prior post, list as 3955 L no bore gage
|
Ty, thanks for the data. It's pretty common to mix a "C" with a "L" in 1940 and 1942 Military Mausers, so don't feel bad. :)
Serial Number 3955L was completed in about August 1942 and was among the last submitted to the Army. The Portuguese Contract started in the M-Block. |
thanks Frank, What is last serial number that you have found for german made lugers ?
|
Ty, first, you're welcome. Next, you've asked several questions in your "question".
WWII Lugers were made by both Mauser and Krieghoff. Mauser Lugers were produced for mostly the Army, with some undoubtedly for the SS. Krieghoff Lugers went to the Luftwaffe. As I mentioned, the last Mauser Lugers for the Army ended with the L-Block, approximately. That being true, my data shows the highest number to be 9958L. Mauser also produced Lugers for Portugal (about 5000) and Bulgaria (about 6000). My data shows the highest Portuguese as 5228m and the highest Bulgarian as 3800n. Hope this helps a little! :) |
I got a 42 byf with no bore gauge ser 5442f today
Regards Kai Norway |
Kai, thanks fot the data on your 42 byf. Congratulations!!
|
Hi Frank, this must be a "banner week" for byf 42's. I just got one on Monday serial number 2944 f . No bore gage stamping. It is all matching with 44 marked wood grips and a black bottom fxo mag. I'd say about a 95% finish gun. Now I have to learn how to post pictures on the forum. What month, would this have been likely made? Thanks. HTH'S
|
Levi, First, thanks for the data and congrats on your new pistol. Serial Number 2944f, 42 byf was completed about April 1942. :)
|
Thanks for the info Frank....being born in May of 1942 gives me a connection with this pistol:thumbup:
This may not be the proper place to post this however, I have a VOPO byf 42 which has a replacment barrel so I can't help with your original question in this posting but....the serial number is 2047f and I noticed a difference between this one and my new2944f. the 2047f has the complete serial number including the"f"on the left side of the barreled receiver BUT the 2944f does not???? Just numbers but no "f". I'm sure this has probably been discussed but I'm wondering if there is a "cut off point" when Mauser stopped carrying over the suffix to the receiver or could it just have been a mistake to not include it? These types of question are why we collect, isn't it!:) Levi |
Levi, Mauser never stamped the suffix on the left side of the receiver. The only place the suffix is noted is on the front of the frame below the numerals.
The VOPO procedure probably put the "f" on the receiver. |
