That's great news, Ed!

So...When will you have pictures ready??? :)

John Sabato 12-28-2015 11:53 AM

You should make a follow-up cartoon of Eugene as Lucy Brown snatching the carbine from Ed as he reached for it! :D

Sorry Ed... couldn't resist. I hope he gets off his butt and finishes your carbine REAL SOON NOW.

Edward Tinker 12-28-2015 06:27 PM

I go to pick it up on Saturday - anybody taking bets?

:)

berkmberk1 12-28-2015 06:33 PM

I'll get a good vibe going, and keep my fingers crossed for you.

(how's about asking about a certain C96 while you're there? :)

cirelaw 12-28-2015 06:36 PM

Ed, I will say a prayer for you both!!

lugerholsterrepair 12-28-2015 07:04 PM

taking bets? On whether it's ready or not? Fit & finish alright? Will it actually shoot? Or another half dozen bets? God bless Brother Ed, I hope it's what it's supposed to be..Personally I think the guy should bring it to your house on a red velvet pillow on bended knee.

mrerick 12-28-2015 07:56 PM

I am chanting a Luger Carbine completion mantra now...

With repetition it increases in power... Irresistible power...

"Escarrabin! Illegitimi non carborundum... Omm.... "

This meaningless pseudo Latin comes from the French word root ("gravedigger") of "Carbine" and the concept that you should not "let the bastards grind you down"...

Hoping for Joy!

Marc

lugerholsterrepair 12-28-2015 08:33 PM

Oddly stimulating..and disturbing...what's that thing to the right of your head Ed? What beautiful hands you have...

I have a serious question~~ How does he come up with a legal serial number? I'm sure there has to be some rule of law governing this situation. Must it be registered with State and or Fed agencies? Eric

CAP Black 12-28-2015 09:46 PM

As to serial number, mine was a makeover of a luger; so it has the original number. No creation of a number.
Since Ed has a time for pickup, it appears to be a sure thing on delivery.
If never to be shot, fine but you must still check it over thoroughly. for interior parts, fit and finish, etc.
On mine, after 8 shots the shoulder stock developed a small crack; which took several months to get resolved and then I finished up the last 15 percent or so; after I finally got it back.
If you shoot it, I wouldn't use the more powerful ammo suggested. I use the Winchester white box. Also make sure to hold securely to shoulder as the entire weapon absorbs the energy.
I fired mine only to verify that it would fire without fail.
Thanks
Jack

Aren't Luger carbines exempt from the ATF regulations about SBR's and detachable buttstocks???

Does anyone have the letter or the reg reference???

Edward Tinker 12-28-2015 10:05 PM

Jack, at first I felt that I'd like him to send it, but if Eugene made the date and time for me to come by, that would be good.

Its built on a G date, so its serial number will be built off of that...

BTW, the barrel is 16 inches, so its exempt that way... A carbine would be 12.5 inches if memory serves me right.

lugerholsterrepair 12-28-2015 10:09 PM

but if Eugene made the date and time for me to come by, that would be good. UHHHH OK. Did Eugene do that?

From the ATF site -

OPEN LETTER ON THE
REDESIGN
OF STABILIZING BRACES”
The Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division (FATD), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has received
inquiries from the public concerning the proper use of devices
recently marketed as stabilizing braces.” These devices are
described as “a shooter’s aid that is designed to improve the single
-handed shooting performance of buffer tube equipped
pistols.” The device claims to enhance a ccuracy and reduce felt recoil
when using an AR -style pistol. These items are intended to improve accuracy by using the operator’s forearm to provide stable support for
the AR - type pistol

. ATF has previously determined that attaching the brace to a
firearm does not alter the classification of the firearm or subject the firearm to National Firearms Act (NFA) control.
However, this classification is based upon the use of the device as designed.
When the device is redesigned for use as a shoulder stock on a handgun with a rifled barrel under 16 inches in length, the firearm
is properly classified as a firearm under the NFA.

By this it seems if it was ever originally made this way, its fine. If not i.e fitting a stock to a 1911, it would be "modified" and illegal without ATF approval.

yes :surr:
.
.
.

:typing: and its a sixteen inch barrel - Eugene makes them with 16 inch barrels - there is no exemption status if 16 inches

HMMM....??????

You mean bets on month, date, year of the "Saturday"?

I seriously hope you mean this coming Saturday! Which would be
January 2, 2016; now what do I win if I'm correct?

cirelaw 12-28-2015 11:09 PM

Section III pg 36 of the attached BATFE document specifically exempts Luger carbines from NFA status -

I believe only original carbines are exempt. Recreations are not. This one is not even built on an original carbine frame. IMHO

But being built with a 16" barrel makes this irrelevant... It does not meet the BATFE short barreled rifle (SBR) definition. No exemption from the National Firearms Act of 1934 is required. :order:

Interesting...How do you tell an original carbine frame from say a 1917 Luger frame??? :)

What about Luger carbines built in Germany back in the '20's by gunsmiths, from left-over or even discarded Great War pistols? Perhaps by a well-known gunsmith located in Vor See; are they exempt? Who says if they are or aren't 'original'???

lugerholsterrepair 12-29-2015 11:27 AM

Who says if they are or aren't 'original'?? Only the "Shadow" knows.

Dick Herman 12-29-2015 12:17 PM

"Who says if they are or aren't 'original'?? Only the "Shadow" knows."

It could also be the little guy in the ATF hidden office that only comes out to see his shadow.

Ed, enjoy the moment.

ithacaartist 12-29-2015 12:52 PM

Ed, we've all been rootin' for ya, and this is the post we've been waiting for. That is all I will say until Saturday evening when we hear from you again!

p.s. Better brush up on trigger finger etiquette and muzzle control (in the pic). May I have one of those cinnamon buns?

Norme 12-29-2015 04:33 PM

Hi Ed, I hope it's going to come in a fitted case with all the accessories. Eugene can hardly expect you to take it home in a paper bag.
Best regards, Norm

rhuff 12-29-2015 05:01 PM

Good luck Ed. I hope that it is 100% to your desires. You have been most fair to Eugene, and hopefully he realizes it. A bad result/product would be the kiss of death for him on this forum. I choose to think positive for you.

lugerholsterrepair 12-29-2015 07:28 PM

A bad result/product would be the kiss of death for him on this forum. That ship has sailed down the river styx IMO!

cirelaw 12-29-2015 09:05 PM

Jerry, I agree but hold for the result. Eds' venture evidenced a tolerant friend who wanted a custom carbine built by one of the then believed one of the finest!. I have gained so much more respect through this last year in his patience and reserve. He chose to share it with us regardless of the delay or comments! Yes soon he will hold the baby in his arms. You have a group of believers and supporters at your back!!

CAP Black 12-29-2015 09:19 PM

Norme:

Don't hold your breath on the paper bag. I traveled 300+ miles to get delivery on my item from the same man and all of it was loose: pistol, stock, extra mag and a box of shells. No container at all. I had expected it would be packed in a box.
Jack
I suggest taking a gun case.

cirelaw 12-29-2015 09:59 PM

How was the gun? Eric

There are others...

lugerholsterrepair 12-30-2015 10:57 AM

let me direct you to junglejims thread about Lugerman.com...I read this whole thread and took a close look at the pictures. The wood on these pics is horrible. Looks like Georgia pine. Dead looking with no color. Plus the grip fit is way out of spec. Whoever is doing this guy's woodwork isn't up to 1920 standards.
