A get together in that area would be great. I'd like to meet any other members who could make it, face-to-face. With a couple weeks' notice, just about anytime would be fine with me. Rich and I could probably share part of the trip, and gas expenses. 45 minutes or so between Ed's and Eugene's places does not seem prohibitive for a side trip/tour.

Dry? This ain't Alabama in 1972....

You can't buy vodka in the grocery store but there are liquor stores run by the state, open 6 or 7 days a week? Beer and wine is at many specialty stores... Not easy like many states, but it is not that hard to find a place. Bensalem is not that far from Eugene and there is a big casino and lots of food places, but its 42 miles from me - I used to work there :)

Now, and its still weird to me, but many restaurants can't sell alcohol but they allow BOB (bring your own beer - or whatever) and that is still odd to me :)

I would think we should set up a get together - personally I think it would be smarter to be closer towards me and then we caravan and go visit Eugene - cuz I can arrange things easier if closer?

I also am willing to have a get together Saturday with a BBQ where folks could bring things to show and tell and if you have a FFL - trade or sell (donna know if you new yonkers could do anything like that....) --- hopefully after a visit to see Eugenes set up.

Also, not good to do it a weekend of Allentown show, as set up is friday afternoon, it lasts until 5 pm on saturday and is sunday, so anyone with a table (myself and others) could not attend without being exhausted ;)

Jerry was just using your own words: Just want to see a worthwhile manufacturing operation.
Right, Jerry?

Ithaca is just about 4 hours from Phila.

PI live about 68 miles north of Ed. Consider me in for a get together as long as it isn't in the last week of September. (Shoulder surgery that week). I would truly love to meet you all.

Speaking of upstate New York, Did anyone make Woodstock and lived to tell? Eric

Edward Tinker 08-09-2014 09:14 PM

Closest Best Westerns are not that close - some in Philly area. But, same type of place, Days Inn, etc for $60 and up in Pottstown (6 miles or so from me), Quakertown, north, but even farther from Eugene, etc. Lansdale has hotel right off of 476

My son will make comments like, oh, I will sleep in my car. Sorry, I simply will pay the dollars and stay in a hotel ;)

Anyway, I would be willing to host a meeting in the afternoon and evening on a Saturday, whether folks stay close to Eugene or closer to me :) I have a large covered porch out front and a nice one out back, and either plenty of parking at my house or we have a walking trail out front - if folks are interested, I would personally give them my address...

of course, we would have to find out if Eugene is willing - if no or uncomfortable in such a short amount of time, we can still have a summer get together, heck, I do project management for a living, not that hard to help others make plans and I can guarantee a nice Saturday as a minimum.

What are the requirements for purchasing a handgun in Pennsylvania? Can an out of state resident purchase and take delivery in PA?

Edward Tinker 08-10-2014 11:31 AM

No, it s not like Oklahoma or other western states. Rifles, shotguns easy. Handguns you are supposed to go through an FFL on each side, if a resident, you go through an FFL.

If you have an FFL 03 than you can take possession and then I believe you handle your state laws.

Eugene stated he was building five of these. Maybe one will find its way onto GB.

Eric, the 60s had not hit Northern New York, Watertown in particular, even by 1969. The era finally made an appearance there, but after I was gone. In a manner of speaking, I missed all the goodies of the 60s.

My only story is second-hand. An acquaintance--a rich kid who owned a '67 red convertible Corvette--attended. He said he parked miles from the venue, but still returned to find his car sort of trampled and savaged. Remember, a nearby section of the NY Thruway was closed for a bit due to the press of concert-goers and their traffic!

Tks, I guess it wasn't all peace!

Edward Tinker 09-28-2014 02:06 PM

Talked to Eugene, no time line yet, but he said he is working on it.

Hoping to get pictures of further progress, or even better the carbine to the doorl :)

Well I asked him, fairly abruptly, as I am a bit impatient nowadays. I am 54, I could die any day

He sent me these stock pictures, but I could have sworn it already had a stock...

DavidJayUden 11-01-2014 05:09 PM

Eugene is probably not getting any more prompt in his old age...

I think we're missing out on a golden fund raising opportunity, a completion date pool. Participants send in $10.00 and their predicted completion date, the closest to the actual date wins the jack-pot, 50% of the monies collected. The balance would go to forum maintenance.
I would volunteer to handle the administration myself, but since I've reached the advanced age of 76, I think it should be in the hands of someone who has a reasonable expectation of being alive at the time of completion, some young fella like Sheepherder, who seems to have a lot of time on his hands.
Regards, Norm

Sounds like a great idea Norm but instead of half of the jack pot make first prize Ed's Carbine, he's getting up in years and probably doesn't even remember what it is he's waiting for. :roflmao:
