My father was a hard hat diver and instructer at their Our Navys school in Bayonne N.J. where I grew up~ I recently found two of his medals. Can anyone ID them? https://www.vetfriends.com/units/index.cfm?unit=241709

Eric
Top left- Navy Good Conduct medal. Below it National Defense Service Medal. Right Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal |
Nice Job Bill, Are you an ex Navy Man?
|
Thank You Bill, He died when I was five~
|
Eric, Bill beat me to responding to those medals.
I am ex-Navy and was stationed at the Naval Air Station at Lakehurst, NJ in the early 70's. I am sure you are proud of your father's service in the Navy. |
I am also Ex Navy and was awarded 2 of the three medals shown above.
I am Now in the Army (National Guard) and wasnt till I got the Army that I was awarded an achievement medal. Cool Stuff Eric always something to be proud of, I am sure your Father was proud to be awarded them. |

Whats with the hats?
|
I suspect the "hats" photo is a staged shot indicating that the individual had been promoted and was now authorized to wear "scrambled eggs" on his cap visor and is discarding his old cap overboard.
|
Yes I was Navy 1953-1957 Sonarman on a ww2 destroyer. Bill
|
Way cool! Looking for subs, exciting! Thank You For Your Service!

Bill I was also a sonarman on FFG 55 USS Elroy Now decommissioned and wasting away here in the Philly Navy Yard.

I think you are probably right and I think that could be considered quite a "promotion". I had a similar experience as I went from enlisted to Commissioned and experienced significant life changes. |
Definitely a Chiefs hat. Probably to an Ensign.
Wayne. When were you in the Navy fellow ping p---y? Bill |
I was a few years after you. 93-97

You know you are old when you find this in your desk drawer lookingI I found the Ford Stockholder Pass for the 1964 Worlds' Fair! Mom owned a 1960 Ford Fairlane, 195 horse, Skymist Blue, N.J. Tag FRX-615 I guess the pass came from our Ford dealership! It found with all my childhood memories attached! Eric

Me, I realized I was getting old when it seemed to me that every cop I saw should be in high school instead of in uniform.
