The Scorpio killer, Andy Robinson, is the son of Edward G. Robinson. He also used an MP40 in the movie.

cirelaw 12-18-2014 08:55 AM

This one is for you~ http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/MP40

alanint 12-18-2014 09:36 AM

Interesting that the Eastern Block was the first to have used MP40s in movies, as examples were not available to Hollywood until after the war.
Usually M1928 Thompsons, with the horizontal wood front grip and buttstock removed and a big-ass ring welded to the front sight stood in for MP40s. I have seen these guns turn up in other films, including one USMC Island Campaign movie, (don't recall the name), where the wood front grip has been restored but the gun still has the ring around the front sight!!

A couple of observations on the MP40 database:

Most comical use of an MP40: The Granny at the gatehouse hosing down Bond's Aston Martin in Goldfinger

Erroneous Listing: Charlton Heston used a Smith & Wesson M76 in Omega Man, not an MP40.

cirelaw 12-18-2014 09:48 AM

TKS I am amazed how much a Thompson weighs even unloaded. I own an semi auto and have difficulty even picking it up unloaded! I just looked it up 14 3/4 lbs loaded~~

alanint 12-18-2014 10:01 AM

I have two full autos, both West Hurley guns. An M1928 and a M1A. They are both a chore to fire with aimed shots off the shoulder, especially the M1928 with a full 100 round drum!!

I can take my MP40 and regularly hit 32 out of 32 bowling pins at 100 Yards using single shots, as well as break skeet targets thrown up on the berm. It would have been simple for a trained soldier to hit man-sized targets out to the limit of the 9mm round, (200 yards) with the MP40. It is inherently very accurate for an open bolt gun.

cirelaw 12-18-2014 10:28 AM

I'm sure you are a hit at your local bowling alley!
