The worse when he was teaching the alphabet. Soupy had cards with different letter. White fang got stuck on the letter 'Y' He asked white fang How come every time I hold up a '"F'' you see "K"??

I was 13 and a hard working farm kid.
I had bb guns, Crossman .22s and a Pigeon grade Model 12 my grand dad bought for me before I was born.
I already had my 1st Luger, a matched BYF 41 with no finish, smooth grips as well as bore. It stove piped every shot til I got a replacement mag.

I got 2 of gramps finest his pre war crossman and his favorite trucks.

Gertrude and Heathcliffe! I definitely enjoyed Red's show. Rod Serling, from whom I took a couple of classes at Ithaca College just prior to his ill-fated bypass surgery, told a story about Red, who apparently was a little twisted in his everyday sense of humor. He'd set up a film projector to display on a large garage wall on his property. The wall was straight-on in view, just before a right angle bend in the adjoining road. Red allegedly would wait for a passing auto to be in just the right spot and flip on the projector. Then he'd watch to see if the porno film projected would cause the car's driver to run the vehicle off the road!

Otherwise, I spent my days in Mrs. Muldoon's fifth grade classroom. She's the one who killed a little milk snake I'd brought in, in a ventilated jar. Without asking, she'd put the critter's jar on the windowsill in direct light, thinking this a kindness to the animal. Unable to regulate its body temp, the little guy was cooked by dismissal time.

This may also have been in the era when reproduction Lugers were advertised on the backs of comic books...That's when I fell in love with the P.08. I believe I also had my Johnny Reb Cannon then. The balls all were lost, over time, but I found it would do just fine with billiard balls I drilled out to fit the guide tube in the center of the "bore". It lasted until about 1999, when it was destroyed by ice falling from the eaves.

I think Red's cowboy character was Clyde Cadiddlehopper (SP).

Clem caddidlehopper was Red's bumpkin country cousin.
I theink the cowboy was Texas Red, but not sure.

There is an interesting book by the son of a Howdy Doody producer who saw lots of the behind the scenes goings on. CRS on the name right now.
One guy seduced moms upstairs during the shows and the princess was an ex-stripper with a past.
She was in Jail House Rock and was headed for better things when she died in a car wreck.

I now reaze the roots of my aberant behavior!
 

Yes I living with my Grandparents in Florida with only 4 channels. They loved The man with the chop stick. He was on Sundays between Bonanza and Walt Disney, At least Ed Sullivan had the Beatles. I try unscrewing the cable and turn down the volume hoping they might fall asleep. My German Grandma got a chop stick and joined in. She wanted an accordian. Gramps left her alone with a few chopstick hoping to difuse the obsession! And that started my councelling. Next came the nuns. Should I say more! Happiness to all!

I sort of remember a review of that book...When the puppeteers were bored, they'd have the puppets doing...er...lewd acts... :eek:

My favorite show of the 50's was "Science Fiction Theater"...I still recall an episode where a mysterious stranger stayed overnight at a remote home...Mother & son had no electricity...Stranger told wild stories about a strange land...and left behind a suitcase with a duplex receptacle that the kid plugged his electric train set into... :eek:

Really...Would an alien with a cold fusion reactor put a *duplex* receptacle in his suitcase??? :rolleyes: :D

I think Red's cowboy was "San Fernando Red." Sound about right? And the boxer was "Cauliflower McPugg." ("There goes a whole flock of 'em!") And "Freddy the Freeloader" was in there somewheres.
