Two beautiful guns, did you know that some years ago I was on the verge of starting a small collection of Walter P.38 BUT at a certain point I realized that it will take at least another century before they will get any real collectible value so I gave up... :-) Sergio  |

Right, I purchased several P38s from FGS. He was also selling them Swiss lugers, $1800 for a mint 1929 with holster. These were prestroke and I lost them somewhere while Jaco Beach, Costa Rica. George Anderson offered me this one and I wanted one to round out my collection ~~~ Eric

Sergio and Alvin I agree!! Walther P38s have never commanded high value except the rare one's you pointed out. I must have purchased 5 or six from F.G.S. They all started to look alike except maybe the color of the grip! They were all sold or traded away and I was left with none! Years later I purchased this one. I bought it because of the proofs, holster and it looks very cool~ I realized today how much lighter is the luger! They do look nice together~ I'll stick to my P08! ~~~Eric

I had to post this Walther P38 site, the finest anywhere~~ A P38 Gold Mine ~ http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/unif...8/p38index.htm according to the site 'CYQ' code is seen in the late war and actually names the maker and city!

I could not pass up posting another fine site to identify a Walther P38~~ http://www.pistole38.nl/P38-variatio...ariations.html It contains download production charts~ I wish I found this site ten years ago before I switched to our favorite! Eric

I would also add that here in Italy it's quite common to find P.38 like the ones I enclose pictures of, so far I've never seen a farly scarce one.
|
Rare Walthers are in the US, because the factory was captured by GI. Just like many rare Mausers appeared in France.
Ordinary P38 in great shape, like the above ones, what is the ballpark price in Italy? |

Alvin.
Here in Italy the average price for ordinary WALTHER P.38 in great shape range from the equivalent of USD 1300/1500 (MAUSER made are a bit cheaper) while for the newer P.38 ex Bundeswehr we can find prices from the equivalent of about USD 400/800.00 Somehow I never managed to really fall in love with them, while a pre WWII WALTHER PPK Zella Mehlis at the equivalent price of USD 1100.00 perhaps would be a bit more tempting. Yeah. I like Walther PPK too. Pocket pistol cannot be prettier than PPK. Never had one. It's a future item on my list.

They allow you to diversify although nothing replaces a luger anytime or anywhere. I believe! You are right those Walthers were often carried by officers as a pocket protection! They have their place right up there! Eric

Hans Tauscher was A major German Arms dealer in down town NYC and a suspected spy. It reads like a novel. Make sure you check out the slide show icon includeing with original luger ads! Its the only site that I'm aware to be interactive. This site is probobly the most historically important that I have come across. It traces early model like the Test lugers, 1902 Fat Barrel and Cartridge Counter~Its traces lugers that were delivered first in downtown New York City from Germany. http://www.landofborchardt.com/tauscher-article.html Eric
