Gentlemen, I have been out of the loop for a while. I am surprised to see this old thread has had so much activity recently.
I am still enjoying the pistol And the restoration that Ken did for me. It was well worth the money spent to get in back in shape. I still havent had the gips sent to Hugh nor have I located an original mag for it. Tough times these days!!! I would not sell this But I could assure your if I ever did I would disclose everything I had done to it. I would not be able to sleep knowing that I passed something off that wasnt what the buyer thought it was. Especially for the money that the originals go for. |
Wayne, I have not kept up, and will look through
read it all, great pistol! |
Ed, No dogging at all. Just conversation. I am glad to see this topic is still relevant.
|
I am crying, my day is ruined, maybe the entire year. It is so sad.
|
Why would it be sad?
|
Let it be. You bought it this way. It must not have bothered you. Me personally, I have never been so traumatized in my life. I don't think I can make it through the night. This is like someone taking a good S/42 or BYF and just because of a few war stains or pits, going to get it reblued....it's a sad mad world.

There are plenty of good guns out there! I'm buying not selling. I have never sold a luger although I'm on my third wife!! I never lost on lugers. Even the average ones never really lose their value. More importantly no two are alike! Like Ed, You bought it. I would cut my loss. Im sure there is someone out there who you might take it off your hand. just don't dwell on it. Its what it is no matter how you dress it up!on me!

I presume you read that it had been GIVEN to him? |
The decision I made to have it restored was a well comtemplated decision. I spoke to alot of members on the forum. And in the end the rarity of the gun made it a no brainer to have restored.
Thanks for getting my 6 Ed. lol |
Good For You! Best sucess in your mission!

Okay Guys I am not trying to keep this post going forever But, I finally after 5? years have managaed to finally complete the restoration of this peice. I had the toggle latch re done ( into the straw that it should have been) Ken Karstead was gracious enought to squeeze it in, I had two masters do the rest. The grips were re done by Hugh Clark ( The smashed checkering was redon and looks beautiful) And GT did a spectacular job on the broken Cal 9 M/M magazine bottom. It is now a NEW AE Fat Barrel. I think this piece deserved the 2nd chance at life. I will post photos ASAP.

I never followed up on this . I am going to attach the the finished pics of the gun with with the Hugh Clark refinish of the grips and the beautiful job by GT on the Mag, Unfortunately I learned over the past 2 months that Ken Karstead has passed away. He was a gentleman and a pleasure to deal with. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Really excellent Wayne.
edited -------------------- David, I normally do not like restored guns, but sometimes, it just has to be done, this was one of those times. I would love to own a fat barrel - well fat barrel again, years ago, I had two for a short period of time, shoulda kept one ... Ed |
Thanks for putting the icing on the cake, Wayne. I read this thread from the beginning and would really have missed the final pics! You began your thread several years before I became a member or bought my first Luger. The thread itself is a testimonial to the support and sage advice available here, and your satisfaction with this once-again beautiful gun verifies this observation. Even Harry Greer would like it!

An outstanding finished product. I would take great pride in this Luger if it was in my safe.

Preserving history..Nicely done. GREAT job by Hugh, GT and Ken Karstad. Ken was a great guy.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
My life has taken an unexpected turn and I am trying to start over. I will be listing this for sale if anyone is interested. I would like to get $6,000 for it but will entertain offers. I will list it in the proper place when I have a little time to list it properly. Wayne |
