I have one that does work. But it's P.08 dedicated. Meaning, it doesn't work on anything else but a P.08 (tricky fellers them Germans :rolleyes:).

I happened to have a "divine moment" and realized that a corner rounding end mill would do the job, and after spending half a day on searching different web sites I found one the closely resembles the original cut. It's a bit narrower than the slot, but this works perfectly as it allows me to widen the cut for chip clearance as I go.

As I following this thread I have to comment how impressed I am with the creativity and talent of so many of the forum members. Amazing! :thumbup:

I tried to make one similar to that, but after measuring several barrels I realized that the band diameters can be very different (especially if you include the P1). However, yours looks simple enough, and if it does work I might give it another try.

If you are looking for a sight blade with a flat or square top for a better sight picture and fits that dovetail, I think you will find that P.38 blades will fill that need. Of course you should open up the rear V-notch to match, but I am sure you will find that to be a better sight combination. Since you are using non-standard barrels, changing the rear sight notch seems appropriate.

Work it does. But as it fits the P.08 barrel band like a glove, It won't fit a P38, or even other Lugers other than the standard P.08, such as LP.08; 1904 Navy; or any .30 caliber.

Pictures make better examples. You can appreciate how it fits snugly.

Rather than clutter GT's bbl thread with sight pushers, why not someone start a new one.

It is worth while, and there are many different dedicated sight pushers, and some universal ones.

They do have to "fit" the barrel and the sight!

just a hint for your pictures, when you are preparing them for posting, try reducing the color "saturation", it will get rid of the green ghosts! ;)

A sight adjustment tool (pusher) example thread for photos is a great idea. Will one of you guys please start one! If we get a bunch of examples we can make it a Sticky thread for reference.

Hi Doc & Ed, I did notice with the 6" barrel at near full mass, it soaked up a considerable amount of recoil as well... I really don't think an 8" barrel in that configuration would work?... More worried about closing then malfunctions?.... :eek:... 6" smooth as glass... best to all, til....lat'r....GT......:jumper:

Unless you're intended on rapid fire (10" or less), muzzle flip is kind of irrelevant.

Just my 2 cents.

It wouldn't hurt to try an 8", if it doesn't work you can just cut it off and redo the cuts up front.

I like it; well both of them.

I'm going to get GT's 5" model and go with that; couldn't decide if 4 or 6 was better!

An 8" bull/slab is likely to be too heavy for the standard mainspring,would likely to go lighter.

Ed, your 6" bull bbl is approx 2 oz. heavier than an artillery 8" bbl., and close to what a 12" carbine bbl would weigh by my estimate; and about the max weight that would work reliably without monkeying with the spring.

The Art. mainsprings I've measured by my method are 14-16 lbs, and the 4" measures 18-20 lbs.; i.e. he heavier bbl requires a lighter mainspring as observed. It is impossible to predict what is in any given pistol, due to the natural variation and years of potential changes. The higher velocity from the longer barrel helps some also.

I also proved this to my satisfaction in working on a 12" .30 cal bbl, and getting it to a weight that would function.


Bottom line- if it works - super!!!;) The 6" pistol looks great with those grips too.

Just a teaser, at Rich's instigation/idea, GT and I are going to work on an adjustable rear sight to be added to the rear toggle- wish us luck!

The 5" bull slab barrel arrived yesterday, actually it is 5.3" long and weighs 9.8 oz.

That weight is 2.1 oz heavier than an artillery bbl with sight; but the balance is much closer to the hand- I can't wait to shoot it.

I installed it on a receiver and put it together to shoot in a day or two.

I received my GTS/T-6 from GT yesterday. I was very impressed with the quality of workmanship. The point of aim feel for both single right hand and two hand grip is not too different than my Hi-Standard bull barrel target models.

I manually fed several snap cap rounds through the pistol, very smooth. I look forward to getting to the range and putting a few boxes through it. I plan to play with it a while and then put a rust blue and straw finish on my GTS/T-6.
