$350 sounds like a good price for a worn mismatched shooter... ;) |
And remember that in 1948 pawn shops were full of Lugers. There were an abundance of them and they were worth less (but not worthless).

10 tear old children making Nike sneakers in Bangladesh make more than that... :D Just for S&G, I downloaded the Military Pay Scale for 1971 (my last year of active duty, L/Cpl in USMC)... http://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/...ay-charts.html $333.60/mo, $166.80/payday for me (L/Cpl under 2)... I seem to recall $197/payday (every two weeks) but I was overseas at the time...Maybe overseas pay??? Anyway, that works out to $2.46/hr for a 40 hr week...A draft beer at the Enlisted Club was $.25... We were always broke... :crying: |

You missed the point by going into the decimals- my point(s) were/are: 1- it depends on the "quality" of the luger- the OP did not mention if it was a POS or a Gem. 2- it depends on how much one was making in 1948 or today 3- a common, mis-matched or ugly luger may or may not be a "good" or appreciating investment. Yes, I "make" about $350 a week now-take home, thanks to Uncle Sam. Some people make 1000 a week, and that will buy the same luger that was $35 in 1948, JMHO. |

I would get about $300 more a month except for that POS Reagan and his WEP legislation... :soapbox: |
"POS Reagan"? Are you referring to President Ronald Reagan? If so, that is a sad commentary regarding perhaps one of the most significant and honorable presidents since Lincoln.
|
I couldn't agree more, Ron. Frankly I'm a bit shocked, but for once I will refrain from further commentary.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but Reagan is high on my list of "good" presidents- wish we had another one like him to vote for. JMHO.
|
I stand by my opinion. Reagan cost every government employee (who worked 40 quarters under SS and got a gov't pension as well) 55% less in SSA benefits. You can read about it on various web sites. Here's a quick one -
http://www.massretirees.com/wepgpo-explained Various legislators have tried to get the legislation repealed but it's a cash cow for the government. |
I am very saddened by this response regarding one of the most enlightened presidents of this era, but in the interest of civility I will refrain from further commentary.
|
If it was my horse that got "gored" - I'd have a different opinion too. ;)
But all in all , Reagan comes out pretty high for me. Some folks even say the change corrected a "wrong" that gave "double dippers" too much! |
Social Security was a cash cow for the government when FDR instituted it in 1935. Average life expectancy was well below the retirement age of 65.

Ronnie was the last decent president we had. Downhill ever since.

Finally there is some hope. I hope!!

Didnt Reagan sign some nfa bill so no more "NEW" full autos for us little people. Causing the price of select fire weapons to skyrocket? Jim
