John Sabato 12-09-2013 10:06 AM

First therapy session this afternoon... can't wait to get the cast off!:eek:

cirelaw 12-09-2013 10:21 AM

Your thumb looks fine. When are they removing your stiches, real fun..not!! ps get them to use the freeze spray! I had to have 37 removed triple ouch!

John Sabato 12-09-2013 10:44 AM

But what we can't see in the photos Eric, is the condition of the tendons, nerves and arteries that have been repaired... if the work has not been successful, my fine looking thumb will be pretty useless. I will find out tonight...

cirelaw 12-09-2013 11:13 AM

That I forgot...Its a good thing this didn't happen years ago~~~ All the best!!!!!!!

Wish you a speedy recovery!

John, If you had sent me that hand I would have stitched it right up! Probably a lot cheaper too! Then the stitches would have just fallen out after 100 years.
Glad you have it fixed. I type by the hunt & peck method and don't use my thumb much for typing.

Spring loaded oven door?

We never know what's gonna bite us.

Sorta reminds me of the time, a few years ago, when I was up on a ladder painting the barn and stepped back to admire my work. Got me four months in a wheel chair and now Pat won't let me get up on a ladder to even change a light bulb. (Silver lining in every cloud?) Maybe you won't be allowed to get near an oven...

Mend well, John,

All the best,

Gunny John

Jerry, After being a touch typist since high school (FIFTY YEARS AGO)... one handed typing really sucks!

Your very special attitude will prevail! We all need your typed words and smiling face that greets us all~~

John
Good luck on the recovery.
You never know when things will bite you!
A couple of weeks ago,I learned to never try to fix a music box with out eye protection.
Box was jammed, with the spring wound tight. I loosened the wrong gear. Cylinder spun freely, metal tines everywhere,Including my eye. Ouch!
No permanent damage,Thank Goodness.
Bob

Surgery is considered successful, but the use of my hand? Only time will tell...

Must wear a removable cast all the time for at least 2 months. Professional Physical Therapy two times a week, and every day I have to manually exercise the damaged hand with assist from the good side... every two hours to keep the damaged tendons flexible during the healing process.

Repair surgery left two new incisions to heal (see photo---sorry the photo is fuzzy... cell phone pic taken with my shakey left hand...)

Pain meds have been reduced from Oxycodone to Advil... good thing... the old one made me sleepy and feeling stupid... Pain for the time being is constant, but manageable. ;) Learning to do things left-handed? Not so great. :crying:

thanks for asking...

cirelaw 12-12-2013 02:36 PM

John your spirits seem great. Good thing your off Oxeees. Probobly as additting as morphine. It took me 8 months to learn to walk unassisted. Debbie wouldn't marry me until I could walk her down the isle. Seriosly my left side was droopy and I couldn't grip my left hand but did come back. God answered our prayers and I'm back maybe 90 to 95 percent. They say 'time heals all wounds but should be you heal your own wombs! Your attitude is wonderful as is your future! Keep on gripping!!~~Eric

Prayers are on the way, hope you get well soon ;-)

Keep the positive attitude, John! Work slowly and steadily to regain your dexterity.

Prayers always sent your way.

Once that cast is completely off, I bet it will be difficult to resist the impulse to shake hands...

Glad the healing is coming along and the swelling is reducing.

When I had my surgery this year, they gave me Morphine (with the timed pushbutton). That stuff really works, but does a number on you. Eventually NSAIDS proved effective and enough. Glad you got off the strong stuff...
