Sturgess has one "40x" Conehammer Carbine, and one "25x" 10-shot System Mauser for sale in March 2014.
Will go there to see the detail of these. This 10-shot System Mauser is different from other instances that I have seen. Maybe an out of range one... Viewing is free, just need to spend effort to go there :) |

Not Persian related, but saw this old picture on the internet. According to the description, this group of women were the prototype of an opera, in which Mauser showed up frequently.
Here is the opera: http://www.nyu.edu/classes/keefer/twenty/mao1.html And here is the rare historical picture. Please note that all pistols had stocks attached. |

Just oiled a few today, including the Persian (2nd one from the right). I am satisfied with this hobby so far. They cost something, but also bring in some fun. Looking at these things, I just realized this is a nice group. When they stay in the safe, I never had such a feeling.

now that is simply gorgeous
|
The Persian does not have matching stock though. May Sturgess have one coming with correct stock, we will see next year.

Congratulations indeed, too bad we live a bit too far away! :-)

Persian #154680 was sold by Hermann-Historica.com recently. The hammer price was 1350 Euro. I heard they charge 20% "Buyer's Premium", so the total cost was 1620 Euro. That's roughly $2200 USD.
No stock either.... Well, it came with a replica stock. European system of gun rating uses different terms. "Condition II-III", looks like that maps to "NRA Very Good" to "NRA Good" in the U.S. system. |

Santa's gift for this year was a book "History of the World" from Barnes & Nobles. A section of the book covers the Islam world from 1500 to 1914 briefly. 1500 was about the peak time of Islam, with three major powers, Ottomans in the Balkans and eastern Mediterranean, Safavids in Iran, and Moghuls in India.
The Lion crest was the emblem of Safavid Dynasty. The dynasty finished in 1736, but this ancient time crest left. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safavid_dynasty === {Edit} Here is the book. |

Well is not much at all for such a rare gun. |
