Congratulations. I have only one Luger and that is a DWM 1911 ser 199f Should the sideplate not also show the last 2 numbers of the serial no?

Piet, 1911 was a transition year for DWM P08s. Early 1911s will have the side plate serial number in the commercial placement on the bottum edge. At some point in the e block the serial numbers are found in the typical military locations on the side of the side plate and locking lever. Your pistol in the f block should be marked in the latter manner.

Excellent new pictures. My compliments.

The ones of the barrel s/n stamping clearly show that it was stamped after the finish was applied, and that it has not been refinished. The "halo" is quite visible on the more reflective first picture of this area.

You've got a very good example of a rather rare Luger and rig. It's a wonderful example of it's era and this early military history of the Luger.

The construction and finish quality of this Luger is a real testament to what DWM was capable of doing.

When I'm 102 years old, I can only hope to look half as good as it does today!

Thank you. It means a lot, compliments on the pictures as well as the purchase. This was a different area to get into. I had a vague idea what I paid was probably a wash far better than that (and a big improvement over the stock market!)

I also have to give the credit to the Luger expert that walked in while I was looking at the gun. Like this group he shared his information and a brief rundown as to why.

I have learned a great deal more in the couple of weeks since, phew. Call it great luck and don't assume anything for the future!

And the "time out" on shooting is now a full time out. As I read all the comments on that and mulled it over its obviously not worth it (sigh).

At some point I will have to look into a "shooter". In the meantime I am going to take a bit of a pause and read the posts and get more familiar with them all.

I have another gun I will be selling and free up some money to start looking.

This is somewhat old but I have done a bit more sleuthing on the gun (I do drop in and look at the posts from time to time)

I removed the extractor as that was the only numbered part I could not see. While I did it careful wrapped in a towel it came apart gently. Good not to take chances.

The numbered parts are all there so its complete original other than the magazine.

Good climate up here as its relatively dry most of the time so will hold good until I make the move to sell it. As much as I like the guns the quality collectors are too rich for my pocket book.

I picked up a Lugar book at the library (John Walter) and getting good reading out of it. Glad I ran into the Luger expert and the gun before I did as I would have been swamped with too many details. At worst it was a bit expensive for a shooter and its turned out far better than that.
