I agree Ron... based on your photo-analysis of the line of recoil... it is locked breech...

I also agree with Rod... this is one neat pistol and wish I owned it... I think if I had designed it, I would have put a little more effort into making it look like it really had a magazine just for appearance sake... but I like it just the same.

Gentlemen, I spoke to the owner this afternoon and he indicated he would like to try to fire this gun just to learn how the action works. He will probably do it at his convenience and may or may not have the opportunity to contact me to be there with him when he does. In any event, I will report back on the results at that time. If he is receptive to removing the grip frame, I'll submit addtional pics of the underside of the receiver. To the gentleman who noted the rear sight screw - that is simply what it is. Loosen it and adjust the sight for windage. Thanks to all - you moderators have just been great.

A screw on the rear sight to make an adjustment to it--what a novel idea! ;)

Thanks for the info.

I think it's French.
I remember reading an article years ago about French gun laws. Apparently single-shot .22 are/were able to be bought and sold without any form of licence and were therefore popular for defensive purposes (when nothing else is available) Apparently single shot .22 copies of various autos and revolvers were very popular because if you had to point it at someone, they would believe they were facing a "real" gun.

Very kool! I'd love to be the solver of this riddle.
