Laws are strict, but I would say without exagerations. I mean with a Gun Licence you can own 3 ordinary firearms, and 6 "sportive" ones (there is a list of them) and no limits of "hunting rifles".
Just for a quick example a 1911 with fixed rear sight is considered "ordinary", while a 1911 with adjustable rear sight is considered "sportive".

Sergio compared to country like England and Ireland, Italy sounds fine! Do those restrictions apply to a person or family?

Apply to a person that is or is not entitled to have a firearm.
Then there are the so called "collection licences" that enable a person to own a certain number of firearms one o a kind though so for example you can't have two firearms of the same model.
Of course no comparison to the UK, although as usual the Brits try to rule Europe and now they're doing pressures so that gun laws get more restricted also on the continent.
