My Pay-Pal support is on the way! Thanks John D. and thanks to all the moderators for the fine site you are running! Best to all, til...lat'r....GT :)

Ron Smith 12-10-2004 06:57 PM

John,
Check is on the way. Just don't try to cash it until I'm dead. :D
I felt guilty about my crumby collection, so I sent $2.00 for each. Glad to help.

Ron

Hi John D.,

Santa has sent something from the Ebbink household to the Dunkle household via the elves at PayPal.

Thanks for all you have done for us Luger nuts...!!!

Hey Ron S.,

If your collection is truly crumby, you might try not eating potato chips while at the work bench...just pulling your chain, of course...

Regards,

Pete...

An idea like this came up on another forum and there was a lot of bitching from certain quarters. Hard to figure why since it was entirely voluntary. Guess the crowd here is not as cranky.

Edward Tinker 12-13-2004 09:46 AM

It is like a platoon in the army. You have a couple of troops who complain (might be the squad leaders, might be the M249 gunner) and pretty soon, everyone is raising hell.

But if folks want to raise heck about supporting the site, they can go elsewhere! :D Not very Christmtssy I know, so lets say it this way, they can ho, ho, ho to another site :D

Ron Smith 12-13-2004 10:11 AM

Pete,
The crumbs coagulate in the gun oil. Keeps them from rattling. And holds the toggle pins in place. You get alittle backsplatter when you fire them, but not bad. :p

John, Do I have to put up with this ridicule?

Ron Smith 12-13-2004 10:26 AM

Noel,

It's cause we be classy folks. The "Looger Elite."
(It's got nothing to do with the compromising 8X10 glossys from Reno, John D has threatened to post.)

John,

I can't think of a more worthy cause to support - and wish to take this opportunity to thank you and everyone who works so diligently to make the Luger Forum such a wonderful site for all of us who use it. I've sent a token of my appreciation via Pay Pay.

Happy Holidays to all. God Bless us, everyone!

Thor 12-13-2004 01:19 PM

John, as I only have one Luger, a very sweet restored K date, $1 just doesnt seem enough. I will REITTERATE the offer I made to you in June/July of this year, I will donate a FULL Luger restoration job for any Luger you send me. No Charge! Even that isnt enough but MAY be worth a bit more than a dollar! For all you and Jen have done for us! We are permanantly grateful. Herr Thorster

lugerholsterrepair 12-13-2004 03:56 PM

Man, ya can't beat that offer! Just gotta say Ted you are one generous guy! Glad to see everyone is jumping on board with support...

John, Just had a thought, if you have no immediate need for Thor's restoration offer you could auction or raffle it off. I know more than a few of us would be interested in the excellent work Ted does for one of our doggy pistols. ten bucks a ticket times a hundred guys.....Could make Ted's work go a long way towards a huge contribution. I would buy the first ticket!

Jerry Burney

unspellable 12-13-2004 05:29 PM

I'll second the idea of raffling off the restoration job.

Meanwhile I am mailing a check for $XX.75. That's $1 per Luger plus $0.50 for the Erma look like plus $0.25 for a small non-shooting model of a Luger.

Thor 12-13-2004 05:53 PM

Sounds good to me!

John D. 12-13-2004 05:58 PM

You folks are simply OUTSTANDING! While I'm a bit behind in retrieving the mail from the PO Box - I hope to have everyone's title updated shortly. As well - again - I think I should have the New Forum complete this week, but it depends on how much over-time at the new job I'm asked to work.

Now - about the "second part time job" at the Gun Store........

I LOVE IT! It is so different then the computer market research real job I also have - it's amazing! Ted - my thanks for your generous offer - I have to start stashing some cash in the future to purchase a shooter.

My sincerest thanks to all - and I can't wait to get some of the new features of the new software installed and programmed for all of you......

My thanks again - and best to all!!!

John D.

Edward Tinker 12-13-2004 06:09 PM

ohhhh, he by-passed the "offer" of a raffle, wants it ALL to his-self, he does :D

John D. 12-13-2004 06:26 PM

Wait a minute... I missed that..! I thought Jerry's idea was a Holiday Raffle for one of Ted's excellent restorations.. (OK - I'm getting a bit senile I guess??) However - a raffle for the site with Ted WOULD BE OUTSTANDING!! Hey Ted - if you are up for it - so am I!!! (However - I'll probably regret it when a good "shooter" comes in, but the cash for the site/circuits are probably a priority right now..)??

Best to you!

John D.

Edward Tinker 12-13-2004 06:34 PM

Well, I think Ted meant and Jerry changed his meant to a meant for the members.

You know what I mean(t)

and I'd take a chance in a heartbeat for a raffle too

John D. 12-13-2004 07:10 PM

Well - I see what you mean but I'm not sure what you meant? I usually mean what I meant when I say what I mean - even though I'm pretty sure Jerry meant something else? And Ted usually means well - so he probably meant what you meant, even though I'm not certain he meant what I mean - if you get my drift??

And oh â?? Jerry and Ted aren't mean, which I donâ??t think you meant, either â?? as Iâ??m also pretty sure you arenâ??t that meanâ?¦..

It's Ed's fault.... It always is Ed's fault..... At least in my world - it's only Ed's fault. Sorry to hi-jack this thread.... Now - what were we discussing? Oh yea - your raffle!!! Well - let's do it!!!! When you do - maybe post it in the Site Help and Feedback Forum - and I'll do my best to close it before Ed can hi-jack that one too.......

DougT 12-13-2004 08:38 PM

I had no idea I was dealing with such a clever group! Now, let's see if I understand this: Thor is willing to donate one Luger restoration--and the idea is to raffle the restoration off at $10 per ticket. Do you want to win a TLSS restoration? Do you feel lucky? Well do ya, punk? Sounds great--I'll buy two!

I always forget and try doubler-talk with John, and he makes me dizzy with his dizzing intellect.

Truely...

lugerholsterrepair 12-13-2004 10:23 PM

OK, I'm in too! need to know where to send the $$$

Now we need to start a new thread and announce this raffle to all the members.

How do we keep track of who's paid for how many tickets and who does the drawing?

Here at raffles everyone gets a movie type ticket and they are put into a drum and one drawn.

That would involve a physical exchange so that might not work.

Anyone with any ideas is welcome to jump in here.

Someone needs to run it as well. Any volunteers
ED?

One other thing...It might be necessary for some of us to Email our friends who may be members but not log on every day. We all have a database of these and get it rolling. Create a little buzz for a good cause.

Also put a beginning and ending date.

It's a great idea and something to consider...if it reaches a certain amount it would only be fair to lessen Teds pain....Jerry Burney

Edward Tinker 12-13-2004 10:33 PM

hmmm, it could be you Jerry, or someone else, whom we all trust.

You collect the paypal or physical envelopes, and buy a roll of tickets or make them, and then assign one or each person that buys one, "their" number as they come in.

I would imagine the "raffle" would go through January or mid-January.

And to make it easy, Ted gets reimbursed for shipping back, and he should get at least something for his time or a percentage of "normal" amount or not ...

Ed

Ron Smith 12-13-2004 11:11 PM

I,m not a computer whiz, but would there be a way to post a list of each entrants number on the forum information site , or the side bar where the galleries ,etc are?. Set up like a lottery board. That way everybodies number(s) are common knowledge. Just a thought.

Ron

lugerholsterrepair 12-13-2004 11:14 PM

Ed, I would be happy to do it except here in Yuma I have a really slow land line connection. I will have to ask Ellie if she thinks that would hamper collecting Pay Pal ticket sales....If she says it will be OK I would do it.

I can get a roll of movie tickets here with numbers on both tickets, let members who bought a ticket know their number and put the other in a drum.
Like I said before, anyone with any helpful suggestions should jump in here...Jerry Burney

Edward Tinker 12-13-2004 11:43 PM

Anything can work Ron, but I have enough work here that anything "extra" would be a pain.

Of course I didn't volunteer cuz I wanted a chance too. :)

Seriously, I just think its a heck of an idea, and I bet that John Sabato will volunteer in the morning, since he doesn't ahve a shooter to be made into a jewel!

Lets wait till morning and see who jumps up :)

Karl 12-13-2004 11:53 PM

I am completely behind the Thor restoration raffle idea and would like to participate. I have an example of Ted's work and can attest to the fine quality. However, I think that $10. ain't near enough for a shot at a $600. Thor miracle. I suggest raising the raffle price to $20. and capping the number of tickets (perhaps 60 to 90), to make the odds worth paying for and to ensure full participation. I agree that the offer should absolutely not include shipping (or any extra work by Ted), and that Ted should be compensated for his work in some manner. KFS

lugerholsterrepair 12-14-2004 12:16 AM

Karl, I agree wholeheartedly...There has to be some sort of limit. Time limit too. The time limit would shorten considerably if the max of say 100 tickest were collected in a week or two. 100 seems like a reasonable figure to give john a reasonable return on his contribution and still take care of Ted. Either 10 or 20 bucks seems good. More would participate at 10 but 20 wouldn't be a deal killer either.

Ed, I agree...Wait till tomorrow to see if one of our members come to the fore. I will help in any way I can but I honestly think someone with time and a fast connection would be better.

Keep the thoughts coming fellows! Jerry Burney

lew1 12-14-2004 10:18 AM

1. If payent by paypal is used to buy the tickets, it must be remembered that paypal charges a fee, which should be factored into the equation.

2. Who is the money going to be sent to?

3. Who is going to draw the winning ticket? This may not be true in this instance, but I have seen instances when there is concern that the drawing was not on the level. (I only mention this so as to bring the issue to the fore for consideration.)

John Sabato 12-15-2004 10:57 AM

The paypal fee runs about 4 percent... just the cost of doing business with them. One advantage is that every time money is received, a unique transaction number about 16 digits long is generated. These could be used for the drawing numbers if John D. can strip them out of the paypal messages and post them...

Since the restoration being offered is actually the property of John D., I have no problem letting him be the recipient of the money... his generosity and honesty is above reproach...

As a suggestion for the selection of the winning number, I propose that the winning number be based on some public information over which no one in the forum has any control. From my youth, in South Philadelphia, I remember that "playing the numbers" that was run by organized crime, was based on information like certain digits of stock quotations on nationally known stocks... The only question I have for the membership is what info that randomly changes daily and is published publicly on the web could be used as the basis for the winning number, and how would the randomly generated transaction numbers by Paypal be associated with that number source so there is a clear winner and not a bunch of them? One of you members with more time than I have could figure how that relationship might work and then post it here...

Just my http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/twocents.jpg

lew1 12-15-2004 01:16 PM

Add up the paypal transaction numbers, and the person with the highest total is the winner?

Jack Lawman 12-15-2004 01:41 PM

Just an idea...

If you cap the raffle at 100 tix, you could assign a two digit number to the buyer in the order tix were purchased (00-99). After all 100 are sold, wait 7 days after #99 was sold, then just pick a State's daily 3 digit lottery number and match the last two digits.

If you use New York's, you'll have to specify the midday or evening number. We have so many gamblers here, the "daily number" is actually "semi-daily".
New York Lottery Results

I think that would be about as random as could be expected. I'd go in for one. I'd vote for $20, it will be a lot of administration/capitalization for a paltry 1G.

Jack

P.S. You could even give a buyer ONE request at which number he prefers. If this one number is previously assigned, buyer defaults to lowest unassigned number.

P.P.S. Save #15 for me if this is how it ends up. I will pay instantly with Paypal. Maybe you could even start a new thread with number requests and then fastest clickers/payers get their number.

Jack Lawman 12-15-2004 01:53 PM

Forgot to say...,

The reason to wait 7 days is to give all the losers one week to imagine they'll win and give the winner one week of anonymity before everyone hates him !

John Sabato 12-15-2004 02:24 PM

Lew1,

Adding the Paypal transaction number would be a problem since they are alphanumeric...

Here is an example of one: Transaction ID: 8C831945W8149490F

Jack's idea about using the digits of a state lottery on a particular day is a good one in my mind...

lugerholsterrepair 12-15-2004 03:30 PM

I guess the main question is...Who is going to administer the thing? I am willing to send in my 20 bucks as soon as it's worked out. I think it would take just a short time to get 100 entrants once it's started. Heck, at 20 bucks a ticket, even 50 entrants would be adequate.

We need someone to keep track of it all. I agree the money could go to John since he's going to get the lions share anyway.

I still say Ted should be considered as I know the guy is generous to a fault but not a ri$h man.

Jerry Burney

pipeman45 12-15-2004 05:09 PM

This could get me in trouble! I have to get in on this, then I have to sneek another Luger into the house to be restored. Please someone with a lot more on the ball than me,get this worked out and tell me where to send the $20.

Edward Tinker 12-15-2004 06:59 PM

y'all are making this too difficult. Let me do it, if I am dishonest, kick me out of here!

That is the reason I suggested John Sabato, he'd cut his left, uh, ear-lobe off before he'd do something dishonest. I just wanted to play, and if you don't trust me, then, well, you either don't know me, or well, I just don't care if you think that.

Make 100 pieces of the same paper, raffle them, charge $11 or $21 to cover paypal, send the money to John and Ted and be done with it.

Too complicated screws everything up...

Just do it and be happy. Heck, there are 2 or 3 members in the Denver area, they can draw from a hat or something, or I'll ask the company Priest to do it (advantage of working at a Catholic Owned facility)...

Ed

policeluger 12-15-2004 08:18 PM

Ed, well done and said, just give us amount $10/20 paypal and home address for us check mailers and enough said.....

Edward Tinker 12-15-2004 08:25 PM

CLOSED AND WE'LL JUST DO THIS.

:)

Ed
