Mine. though I sourced the barrel and sights from Eugene and copied the extension from one of his blanks that he also supplied, since I ended up wanting a longer one to use with my longer forend and to fabricate one was easy having his to use as a basic pattern to begin with.
Incidentally, as you can see from the straight pin, installation of latch and associated spring no different than with an unmodified frame, albeit requiring a bit more finger dexterity. |

Do we have a pic of your carbine here somewhere??? Quote:
If I could suggest...Start a new thread detailing your work as you progress. If you post the pics to an album you can post remarks and link the pics as you go along. (Albums are located in your User Profile; if you need help, shoot me a PM). Fabrication threads are cool. I have a couple here, but as quite a few of my recent projects are making carbines out of 'bubba-ized' military rifles, they're not appropriate for a Luger forum. :D |
Regretably, I have encountered some repro springs that look more authentic before you put them in, but have a half life of about 3 take downs before they flatten and/or break. Real Cracker Jack stuff and NOS prices, too. Don't know what the story in on the pedaled by Sarco lately? Anybody have any idea?

I haven't had any problems with my old Lugers and haven't heard any comments of that nature from the masses of Luger owners.
thanks Jack |

IIRC, it was Tom Heller who fixed me up with a genuine Luger takedown lever spring, and Alvin was able to get me a C96 sear spring. |
I think his normal practice is to have a batch done just b/4 Christmas. Shopping money, I suppose.
Who knows about Eugene? He has his own agenda and it changes; mostly with delays. Send me a p.m. if you want more details. Jack |
No Florida for me
I am not in Florida ... I wish.
Got slowed down by the holidays rush a bit... But over all still kicking it in the shop. |
oh good - I really want to finish the step by step we started (and thus my carbine getting done) :)
Maybe a new $100 bill would help speed along on delivery lol (as I am all paid up via cash and parts last spring) :D |

Hey Rich! Quit deleting your posts... they are part of the conversation... unless you said something you are ashamed of, all you are doing is creating holes in the message thread...
Thanks. |
I don't mean to be a party pooper...
Every time I see this thread highlighted for this section, I click to the last post to find out whether Ed's carbine has arrived! I hope I share some of his anxiety and curiosity about how this project turns out, and am eager to hear the news that it's arrived and looks fantastic. And then some juicy pics to gorge upon! But... Every time seems to be something else. I usually don't mind a ramblin' thread, and am likely guilty of plummeting off-topic, myself, but the continuing, fine contributions to this one are beginning to strike me as a bit of a tease! Only this particular thread seems frustrating to me in this way. I am, by no means, advocating a tightening up of post-to-topic, rather, asking special dispensation for this one only. This will be my last post in this chain until either Ed announces the baby's arrival, or Eugene gives us an update--the latter unnecessary, I hope! David Parker |
Eugene, hoping you are still following along ;)
Any more pictures to add to the thread I am making on the making of a carbine? :) |
Eugene will come through for Ed...and the thread...just a question of when, not if.
Speaking for myself, seems to be a seasonal disease out there called "carbine project inertia"....I haven't done a thing on mine since mid-October! But, then, I only have me and myself (and Angelgard) to answer to, since in my case such projects are merely a (perverted?) form of personal entertainment and I can afford the luxury of marching to my own drummer and dealing with them at whim. |
Two months later!!
|
I was hoping to update the thread I am making on making carbines ;)

Great work. How is the fore-stock held on - to the barrel? I am confused. The barrel moves rearward when fired so the fore-stock must move also. But, there is no room for it to move with respect to the grip frame. I looked to see if there were groves to allow movement and could seen no way for the fore-stock to move. So the fore-stock must be attached somehow to the grip frame was a support welded onto the frame? I am so confused.
Also, where did you get the buttstock metal - the part used to grab the frame???? Thanks Dennis |
OOPs, I missed page 2 which shows the extension to the frame. Sorry for my confusion.
Did I miss where the buttstock to frame attachment piece came from also? Make or buy? Dennis |
Well, it's pretty obvious by now that this particular Luger carbine won't be finished in my lifetime. I'm taking the $6-7 thousand I was hoping to fund a carbine from Eugene with out of the bank and using it as a down payment on a new car.
I don't drive my 86 Corvette anymore, and it's too expensive to repair when something goes wrong (and Corvettes always go wrong) so I'm thinking of an Audi. Nice looking car, and a strong engine. I'd like one of the new Mini's, but the local dealer here has one that's been in his lot over a year and won't deal on it so I'm going elsewhere. I need to get rid of my Xterra too. I no longer need a 4x4 and the Xterra only gets 15mpg so it's got to go. Between the Corvette sale, the [probable] Xterra trade-in, and the $6 or 7 thousand from the aborted Luger carbine commission, I should be able to get a decent 'sporty' car. I'm sure that Ed's son will be surprised and delighted to finally receive a Luger carbine from Eugene. It's just a shame that Ed [and I] will never see it... :( |
March 10th is one year that we initiated the project - deal agreed upon, etc...
|
Time lines and such
New cars are fun ....
But carbines are one of a kind ;0) I got behind a little bit, becuse my mill stoped dead in it's tracks and i spend 4 weeks lookign for parts. Congrats to me , it's back up and running now. Snow did nto help anythign as well... But putting aside all the exuses in the world, I am shooting to button down in march and get this project done. P.S. 10 of 45 barrels have been turned couple of month ago. finishing up on 10 of 45 breach blocks this month ( does not affect carbine) got someone turinging handles on the mill ;0) As soon as Carbine for Ed is done. I am doing 7 inch Navy 45 Luger. And a 3.5 inch Baby 45 for myself. Just an FYI |
I hope to prove you wrong

Try a BMW Z4 , I love mine. Do not spend all the money in one place, carbine is comming. |
I had started a series of photos of the build - do you have others showing further progression?
|
Eugene -
are you taking orders for 45 cal lugers - 45 acp or 45 gap ? thanks Bill |
Got a live one
Quote:
Yes i take orders, you may be looking at a 6 month + for a completion dates. it will be a 45 GAP based on one frame. I have 5 of 5 inch barrels fro Army type And 3 barrels in 7 inch for Navy types and one 9 inch possably for a carbine or artillery build 45 and one 3.5 for a baby luger for myself. |
Pictures of progress

I will get rolling with it in a next week or so and i will start posting more. |
Eugene -
yes, I would like to reserve for two 45 gap customs - one in 7 and one in 9 inch bbl I can provide the donor lugers which are excellent+ condition both mechanical and cosmetic and not of significant collector value would like both in a target configuration if possible send you reservation payment now and then provide donor lugers near time you start ? I am too old to be impatient - 6 to 12 months to completion is ok - and I respect your dedication to quality over time focus - good lifestyle etc would like to discuss details text/email/phone call - as convenient for you thanks for offering !!! Bill |
I think this turnaround is rather quick so far IMO. I guess I'm just use to bodyguys restoring cars. Still has my roadrunner and chevelle going on 3 years now ;)

PM sent |
Eugene, would a .40 luger be possible? I know it's a high pressure cartridge.
|
hey, tell Eugene not to get too excited on 'other' projects, as my carbine has a space WAITING on my desk-top ;)
and a next week or so to start to get to it, I thought she was almost done right before Christmas :) |
45 GAP time lines
Quote:
Yes, i agree. If anyone reads between the lines on my time lines, it's probably more like 12 month when i say 6 month. What you got working for you in this case : Is i have been dying to make one ( read 10 of them) And getting the client to do it for is just the push i need, to finally make it happen. I can never find time to do my own projects for fun any more. Plus all the new parts ( barrel/ breach block / Navy Toggle) are already in the inventory as well as a 45 GAP custom chamber rimmer I consider this 45 GAP project a market test for a customer base for a true 45 ACP Luger build ... biger life long dream of mine. |
;0)
Quote:
But carbines old a true for me now... 45 is new and fun ;0) For now work for 45 GAP parts is delegated to my machinists. Where as putting together a carbine is my privilege as a master ;0) |
40 S&W Luger
Quote:
Lugers a strong guns... It may be even less change then 45 GAP. Less mods on the frame. Problem is i got breach block for 45 GAP cut as well as barrels. And i got nothing for 40. If i will be making other calibers , I think i like 357 Sig better |
