That's what I get for not reading the original post again before making a new reply! Your work was simply that stunning, Ted. ;) Still, the pistol is beautiful. I can't wait to see the fully finished product.

DaveinTN 02-12-2012 10:24 PM

Wow!

The "in process" photo on the previous page is amazing! The edges are straight and crisp, surfaces are smooth, how do you do it? I am very impressed! This is a great combination of skill and art.

I can't wait to see the completed project.

Ron Wood 02-12-2012 11:08 PM

Ted,
I know you changed out the sideplate, and I am curious. It looks like a Model 1900 with the square top left corner. So is it a 1900, squared up later piece, or repro?

Thor 02-12-2012 11:19 PM

Ron, it is a repro

Douglas Jr. 02-13-2012 06:12 AM

Thor,

Your working is a kind of show, and we are sit on the front row.
Thanks for sharing,

Douglas

Great job.

I am so proud of you!

I am duly impressed!! What a nice job on an "old warhorse". The owner should be elated....I know that I would be very pleased if it were mine.

TheRomanhistorian 02-26-2012 05:27 PM

I still can't believe that was the same gun! I wouldn't have been ashamed to own and shoot the gun pre-restoration but wow! The after pictures are simply fantastic, craftsmen like you Ted are amazing.

Don M 02-26-2012 08:08 PM

Chalk up another success! Congratulations, Ted.

Angus Magnus 02-27-2012 12:13 AM

Absolutely gorgeous!

It is really amazing to see it magically go back to its former self, and also exciting to know mine is moving closer in the queue!
Lanyard looks a little ratty though....

Thor 02-27-2012 12:36 AM

The lanyard is only a string tag to identify the owner.

Ice 02-27-2012 05:31 AM

I am truly impressed. Very few people could achieve such a fine transformation. /applause/

CavScoutEurope 02-27-2012 06:02 AM

Wow!!!! Great job! It's hard to believe that it is the same Luger!

alvin 02-27-2012 08:02 AM

Absolutely amazing metal job!

hyrax222 02-27-2012 05:37 PM

Fantastic job. I am nearly speachless. Truly some magic was worked here!!

cirelaw 02-27-2012 06:16 PM

Reminds me of the miracles of loaves with the fish and loafs!

Thor 02-27-2012 06:46 PM

God is the miracle worker, not me, I just do the best I can with what He gives me.

Douglas Jr. 02-27-2012 08:40 PM

Ted,
I'm speechless. As I told on Jan Still's forum, it is the true meaning of word "ressurection."
It's a born again Luger - kind of job that is a perfect business card.
Congratulations!
Douglas

I do have some experience in metal work & I'm having a hard time comprehending how someone could do that with this pistol.

Thor 02-27-2012 10:32 PM

I take my time, and I take my time, the only way for me.

I known Ted personally and He put his heart and soul. Here is an exaple. He replace and Erfurt grip screw and his finish is 100%

Thor 02-28-2012 10:26 AM

It is so funny the reactions I get when the client gets his gun back. Sometimes, I have guys tell me their wives accuse them of trading their old Luger for a new one. Or a few times they have said, I didnt expect it to look so new, now I am afraid to shoot it! :roflmao: I think to myself, "What did you expect, for me not to do a great job" Too funny! :burnout:

cirelaw 02-28-2012 11:29 AM

You better me sure your neighbors don't think you are running a 'Meth Lab'!

Thor 02-28-2012 11:34 AM

Been running my business over 10 years now, I think I am safe. I have a City License and a Manufactures, Class 07 FFL so I am good.

I've seen the same thing happen with collector cars. After they restore them they are afraid to drive them.

By the way Thor, where did you learn how to do this with guns? How long did it take you to build these kinds of skills up?

cirelaw 02-28-2012 03:17 PM

Its not how long, ITS HOW MANY HAPPY CUSTOMERS! Eric is a happy disciple !!!!

Thor 02-28-2012 03:38 PM

I was mentored over the internet by the late Bill Adair from Texas. I have had not formal training in gunsmithing other that the tips Bill gave me. God has given me the wisdom and abilities and I give him 100% of the credit. Bill was kind to me and I never understood why. After I got started he used to send me really bad Broomhandles to work on. I traded him metal work for proof and markings restoration that he did by engraving. I now work with a SUPERB Christian brother that has been trained by French Master Engravers. He has done many guns for the American Handgunner Magazine annual raffels. He has also done a gun for President Bush. I have also had the great gifts and pleasure to be teamed with many artisans from the forum. Their work makes mine look WAY better. I am truly blessed beyond anything I could EVER earn.

I met Justice Thurgood Marchall at the faculty betroom at the innaugeration of Seton Hall School while washing our hands in 1978 I asked Him if he hashad any words of wisdom for a first year law student. He gave me three, first, Don't try to out run your own shaddow! Two, If you can't make a point in two words or less its you missing your own point. Finally and most importantly, renew your oath to God and you spouse every day.... I guess two out of three isn't too bad!!

Daddydogg 02-28-2012 09:37 PM

The hands of a man that can do such work are truly a gift from God. Absolutely beautiful work Ted, well done.

Thor 11-30-2019 12:53 PM

Just posted this one on my facebook page, forgot how much work it was. But it was worth it. Very happy with the finished Luger.

Thor 01-07-2020 05:19 PM

Thanks to all for the kind words. I enjoyed reliving this rework today by reading them all. I am truely blessed to have so many nice members be so kind to me. I do love my work.

Ted, What do you mean by closed? This thread is open and not closed or locked.

Thor 01-09-2020 11:51 AM

This is the message from hughscpa in my inbox this morning.
"I just looked through the thread on the Double Date DWM. I know that the thread was closed but I felt another comment could not hurt. WOW!!!! Amazing work sir. The gifts you have been blessed with are unbelievable. I enjoy looking at your work and it has inspired me to attempt some of my own projects. Keep up the good work."
I then checked and it was indeed closed. I reopened it (I am a moderator on this section) and posted my post.

lugerholsterrepair 01-09-2020 11:58 AM

Can't say. I have no clue why any mod would close it.

Edward Tinker 01-09-2020 03:16 PM

Not that it matters, but you closed it in 2012 Ted
