Ed...... thanks guy ! Took me all day, but I think it was worth it all. Maybe some one in the Luger fraterity can make some use of the work. If we don't share what we have learned with others, especially the younger generation, there won't be anybody to buy our guns when we are gone, as there won't be any interest generated. Are you going to the next Tulsa show ?

Have to agree with Ed. Good job on keeping the records. All too often they are discarded and break the link in the history of a collectible gun.

All those nice Swiss and Dutch papers and not one matches my guns...dang! Close but no cigar. Anyway, thanks a ton for saving these histories and posting them here. Youze a good guy.

Thanks Ron....... coming from you, one of the elders in this hobby, that's nice. I've got some more around here somewhere, just gotta find them. I'll post them when I do.....

Here's some more serial numbers from the journal of Robert Lober of Lugers and other guns bought and sold during the years listed. Look at some of the names and serial numbers, one being Martin Retting........ : ) There are three pages...

Here are some serial numbers from my friend ( deceased ) Heinz Volz, who fought in WW2 and I bought many guns from. He was such a personality !! Look at the prices I was paying at the time...... all in DM's at a rate of 3.25 to the dollar. Sure miss those days......... ( sniff, sniff ) Dieter might translate these for you if you ask....

OK Mike, you got my attention! What is the story on #12 from Herr Volz? The writing is a little small to read but from what I can piece together it looks like it is a “like new” 1906 with a 9mm barrel Crown/N proofed, having a chamber crest from the Republic of Paraguay, obtained in the “original carton with accessories” and with possible provenance from “President Gonzales 1908-40?”. There is some more stuff about it being the “only piece” but my eyes aren’t good enough to make out all of the words. Must have been pretty special to pay about $10 grand in “those days”!

Jesse, thanks guy ! Yes, we should buy the best we can today as we have seen where they go as far as investment pieces. I've found in the past that good collectables such as these appreciate 10/12% a year. You can't get that return anywhere today ! And yes, I remember fondly those 2 daggers...... you got the best !

Ron.... I didn't purchase that piece. I wasn't into contracts at that time, but I cry at some of the pieces that were offered to me and didn't purchase. I just didn't have the funds at that time to buy everything..... ( sniff, sniff ) I'd ask Dieter for a translation though..... no telling where that piece is today and what it's worth....... we can only dream....... : )
