Just picked-up a 42 byf, 98% in E/2 holster. Serial number 9793f no bore gauge. Interesting that it has beautiful walnut grips with no markings at all. The gun has been with one family since the war.

Frank,
I had a '41 'byf', which I traded off, for another luger.
It was serial no. 4275a and it had the 8,82 barrel dimension marked on the underside of the barrel, just in front of the chamber.

Frank,
Sorry about the previous post. I missed that you were looking for '42 byfs. My mistake, please omit my previous post.

41 byf

s/n 5753u

side stamps 655,655 on frame under eagle?

smaller 655 on barrel on side?

bottom of barrel has 5753 then 8.82

four nazi marks on side of gun 2 small under the 655's then one bigger eagle same size on barrel then the little 655 on barrel.

what was the 655 for?

Frank 03-07-2009 09:04 AM

Hi Bob, Thanks for the data!! The 655 is the number of the inspector office that opperated in the Mauser Factory in the time period the luger was made!
