Thank you John..Now it is clear. Does it means that other lugers do not have it?

To the best of my knowledge, only Mauser produced Lugers have this characteristic on the stock lug. I do not recall any DWM, Simson, Erfurt or Krieghoff Lugers that I have either personally examined or see photographs of, having this condition on their stocklugs.

This hole was obviously produced by the end mill that was used to machine the stock lug groove... why Mauser chose to make the entry (or exit) point deeper is beyond my knowledge and limited expertise.

I am not sure when this Mauser "dimple" first appeared...I have seen G-Dates with and without the dimple...

Don Hallock seemed to say that the early frames with out the dimple might be left over DWM frames.

A possibility exists that the hole is to accomodate a different type of end mill.
Two Fluted end mills are usually ground in a center cutting configuration and can be plunged at the end if each machining pass to allow cutting on both in pass and out pass thereby saving "no cut returns" to the beginning of each cutting pass.
However Two Flute end mills do not have the cutting feed ability of the Four Fluted End Mill, which would be double that of the Two Flute for the same chip load per tooth.
Main Drawback is that 50 or more years ago four flute End cutting mills were far too expensive for this type of work.
To allow downfeed at the inner end of the groove there would have to be a drilled hole to allow a four flute end mill to be plunged.
This may be a possible answer to the question of "Why the hole?".
This may have been necessary to match production rates of these parts with matching critical parts.

My K date luger is without the dimple but has the Mauser hump.
If it is left over from DWM how it is that it has the Mauser hump? Which as far as I know only Mauser frames have it.
