The writing on the cloth is as roadkill said. It is a first aid bandage. warning not to touch the wound with bare hands, and that it was "fumed" for anti-bacterial purposes. It gives specific instructions on where to place the hands to control bleeding. The other side of the cloth gives a maker, and the date of 1940, with the location of the maker as well. Now all I have to do is get up enough courage to pull off the grip to see if anything is written on the back of the picture, but to not know is half the fun...

The back of the holster has the G.I.'s initials scratched into it, same as capture papers, and also a very german sounding name faintly etched into the rear at the toe. The name is Gillhaus Uttz. Anyone have any suggestions on how to find more info on the name? I have tried a few free name searches, but with no luck.
