even more photos of a Mitchell Luger have just been added to the album courtesy of the fellow that is auctioning it. Some really nice closeups.

I'll be damned. Talk about a small world, but those are pictures of my gun. I just traded for it in Dallas a few weeks ago. It's a 1992-dated pistol with an AIMCO marked frame. I seem to remember my 1993-dated Mitchell having an SPM marked frame. However, I traded it a long time ago and can't recall for sure. |
I have two Mitchells and a Stoeger. The Mitchell magazines are fully interchangable with vintage magazines. I bought a few extras for use in my vintage Lugers.
The Stoeger will not accept a vintage magazine nor will the Stoeger magazine work in a Mitchell or vintage Luger. It is my guess that Stoeger instigated this change in order to have a captive market for extra magazines. |
I acquired am Aimco Luger this weekend (01-04-03), unfired. From all
the pictures I see here, variations are certainly turning up, like the orginals. Mine is neither a Mitchell or Stoeger. The four digit serial number is on the right above the trigger. I thought it was interesting that the manual talked about red and green dots for the safety, and mine doesn't have either, but does say safe. The dealer even had a story for the gun, I think they all do. It was part of a set of four he shipped to a man in Chicago a couple of years ago. The man died less than a week later. His wife contacted the dealer sometime late last year and asked if he wanted buy them back. He did, and this was the last of the four. It was the only one I saw at the gun show, at Market Hall in Dallas Texas. I feel lucky as that is exactly what I went to the show looking for. I'll post some pictures soon, to add to the collection already started... On another note, I noticed that one of the pictures shows raised checkering on the metal parts, while the rest, including mine have depressed checkering, or should I call that knurling. Is the raised checkering rare??? Just wondering... |
Johnny C,
The Stoeger with the raised checkering on the toggle, mag release and takedown lever is mine. It is pictured with a navy rig. I didn't much care for the cast inverted checkering so I got a checkering file from Brownells and did it myself. Much better now. |

Someone had asked if the magazines are interchangeable,
so I tried, and noticed that the inletting on the grips appears to stop the magazines from interchanging... Here are an Aimco, Swiss and Haenel fxo magazine... http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/MagazinesL.jpg http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/MagazinesR.jpg |
Great photos Johnny... if you don't mind, I will add them to the Stainless Luger album in the member gallery...
|
Sure!!! That would be fine!!!
