I, like Ed, have a checking account that was set up for my discretionary gun money... and ebay purchases. I have used eBay/Paypal for a couple of years and have not had a problem with their administration... and only one bad transaction where I bought a 122 luger mag, only to find out it was so bent that it wouldn't insert into either of my Lugers... and the seller would make no adjustments.

My close friend GT, came to my rescue on that one by remanufacturing the mag tube to original spec's... It is my favorite shooter mag now...but I digress...

Anyway... Paypal, like any medium for the exchange of money must be understood and standard precautions taken... There are also fees collected on the RECEIPT of funds once you reach a certain level of cash flow... There is never a fee for sending money... and I don't bother to tell Paypal for what purpose my funds are being sent/received... THAT is simply none of their business.

John,

As a relatively new member (July-Aug 2004) and owner of only two Lugers, I am sending $20 via snail mail. Yours was the first forum I found when I inherited a Luger rig from my uncle's estate last July and wondered what I had. It was the site where I learned about this rig's history and developed an even closer tie with my late uncle. It was also where I met a number of people who have been of great assistance (as well as a few characters).

Your and Jan Still's forums were also the cause of my current obsession with Weimar police unit marks, leading me to develop a database of these marks (500, so far) and to lie awake at nights trying to puzzle out their many variations! However, I don't think I can hold either of you legally liable for this affliction.

Thanks for all you do.

If it's one dollar for each Luger I have, do I send fifty cents for my Erma Luger look-a-like?

Hi John,
Thanks for making this forum and the P-38 forum available.
Happy to make a donation and have done so via PayPal.

Mike

Good point, unspellable--how much do you think I should donate for my Stainless Mitchell (just kidding)? It's a 1993 P.08, that I bought over a year ago. It led me to find the LugerForum and buying more (non reproduction) Lugers. A while back, I decided to turn it, so I put it up for consignment sale at the gunshop where I bought it. After three months, it didn't sell for the price I was asking ($350--what I paid for it), so I decided to keep the poor thing and give it a home. Now I'm kinda glad I still have it because it's what got me into all this "Luger stuff". I call it "the Luger that nobody wanted". Sort of warm & fuzzy, don't ya think?

Ron, I agree that Pay Pal is probably not perfect as far as security goes..What is? I guess anything can happen with many financial transactions we all make. I have never had a problem but have heard about others that have for some reason. It's all a risk I suppose.

John, we sent you 40 bucks...20 for myself and Ellie, who is a member, sent you 20. Look for it in your Pay Pal acct. You should get a notice.

I hope all the active members get on board with this and give John D some support. It's the least we can do....Thanks John! Jerry & Ellie Burney

Hey, make sure you darn active "lurkers" :D send in the money too!

schwob 12-06-2004 10:46 PM

John, count me in, via snail mail....Happy Holidays......Bob

DougT 12-07-2004 12:44 AM

Now now Ed--active lurkers need love too. Back in February, I posted a message confessing my own lurking...to which Wes replied that "lurking should not become a lost art". Lurkers are learners who aren't ready to join in the conversation yet.

nah, I am just "encouraging" these young folks :D

I'm glad Doug T made the suggestion. I've learned a lot from Luger Forum and appreciate all the work that John's put into it. I felt really good about chipping in.

unspellable 12-07-2004 08:32 AM

Doug T, I'd be glad to give $350 for a good Mitchell Luger any day of the week.

Hi all......

Again - my thanks for your support in providing this Forum to all collectors and enthusiasts. To be honest - I couldn't do it without you - especially in the upgrades - which I hope, will be set later this week or early next week... When it's ready to go - I'll post above, as quite a bit will change in this Forum and fomat - and for the better, I suspect.

So to each and all of you that have posted in this thread, PMed me and committed your support - my simple and humble "Thank you". You are what collecting is all about - certainly this Forum and the community that has developed from it's humble roots.

My Best to all,

John D.

Pay Pal cash on the way. Thanks John for the great forum.

let me see, hum 2 lugers (1.5, really, Thor is still working on the other half), a c/96 from Tom, who I met on this board and is a total stand up guy, a byf from Lugercollector I had to sell when lost my job in January after 17 years in commercial finance, the job is almost as hard to replace as that P.08 will be... A c/96 rig Jerry made for me, then restored an Audley for a colt woodsman, now has my HK P.08 holster, and I've asked him to consider a holster for the AE 1900...

The wealth of experience and knowledge I access to on this board...

The hours my bride has spent looking over my shoulder saying "don't you get tired of that" while searching this board...

my contribution is on the way...

John:

I sent you a contribution via Paypal. Thanks for everything you do for all of us Luger Nuts!!

Best Regards,
Bob

My Sincerest thank you to all..! Just as an update - I purchased the new license for the software this week! Since my new job has me working weekends - I'll only have early next week to start the programming and make some changes to the servers. When it's set to come on line, I'll post a note as to how everything will work, and then put up a temporary test site - so you can play with the features to get used to them before we go "live". Since the new format will have quite a few new "bells & whistles" (yes - even a spilling chicker ), it may take some getting used to for some of the folks....

Also - below is a list of first names/screen names that made all this possible. So, rather then thank me - look for the folks who have LugerForum Patron in their SIG (with a few to be added as I get to the postoffice)... To the new LugerForum Patrons (I think I have you all from the recent weeks?), my sincerest Thank You!

Just to clairify above, as someone PMed me about a name missing above.. Please know that through the years, I've added "LugerForum Patron" to several individuals names who are not listed above. Simply - they are folks who went out of their way, and performed "random acts of kindness" for other users of the site - or supported this site previously. Therefore, folks like G.T., Tom A., Ron W., Ted, and others aren't included in the list above, as that compilation are only the new folks - or folks that donated once again in reply to Doug's thread. However - it certainly doesn't diminish their role and efforts over the years.

As well - on the new forum software, these folks will have some special features contained by virtue of their support. It's one of the only way's I could even begin to say "Thank You"...!

Best to you!

John D.

I think this is a great idea. I have used Pay pal to vote for it.
