Packet,

Where in FL do you live? I live in Punta Gorda, about 25 miles north of Ft. Myers on the west coast (I'm away now, but will be back in Sept.)

Ron,

Thanks for your wise reminder that this is, after all, a hobby, which should be enjoyed.

I like Ron's advice. The two old guns that I have are not perfect and I knew it when I bought them. The 1906 is well worn and has some pits. The artillery is a missmatch that looks like it was mismatched when reworked at the factory since virtually no parts match. But I got them at good prices and enjoy owning them.

I guess what I am saying is if you are not absolutely sure of what you are doing, do not spend big bucks but stick to the lower grades untill you learn enough to detect most fakes and doctoring..

I only hope that the newbies as well as some experienced Luger collectors of this forum read the excellent work and wisdom of John Sabato and Ron Wood. Some excellent comments were made by both. This is why this forum is so valuable. Thank you Ron and John. The wisdom of both of you as well as some others have made me a much better collector.

Thanks Norm... it is nice to be appreciated... but I also thoroughly enjoy the "forensics" involved in collecting and studying Lugers. What ever we can do as a group to make this a "safe" hobby certainly seems worth the effort.
