The "WR" intertwined has recently been determined to mean "Werkesrevision". Deiter Marshall was one of the instrumental folks that found this information in the archives in Germany and reported it. The information in Buxton's books was the current thought at the time it was written.

It is good to have these folks on the Forums that can correct some of the old information.

Where in the heck is the sideplate???

Hello Rusty! (thanx for the story on the Luger, love to gather them!!)

The sideplate is the little doohickie thing on the side, next to the trigger, Correct termiology is, (D-9 or 21) Trigger plate, trigger cover plate or side plate.

Right. So '5xchamp' now has the unenviable task of finding a '62' sideplate for his pistole. Maybe it's over at Uncle's house somewhere.

I agree that it is probably in some small container of his Uncle's possessions and was removed as a safety precaution (perhaps because there were children in the house when it was brought home). Most GI's didn't realize that the Luger as shown in the photo could be discharged by depressing the sear bar manually...

Go ask your Aunt for permission to go through your Uncle's things... I bet you will find it. Pray that it hasn't been allowed to get rusty and is in as good condition as the rest of the pistol. Not having that sideplate will make the difference between owning a $400 shooter and a $1000 or more dollar collector's heirloom. Good luck.
