Klaus Schad is the world expert on deaths head Lugers. He owns a collection of deaths head lugers and a similar marked rework rifle. He has researched German unit histories, US archives, German archives, contacted surviving members of the SS and advertised in their newspaper. The possibilities range from WWI flame thrower units, to Weimar independent militia, to various units of the SS. While he has gathered a tremendous amount of information on the various units that used the deaths head, a definitive answer is yet to be found. Perhaps he will comment directly in the forum. Jan |
Jan,
Any idea of how I can get in contact with him (Klaus) if He dosen't post on the forum? Or would he rather me not disturb him? Regards,Brandon |
I posted this on the P38 forum.. I will repeat it here as it included a comment about DH Mausers..
The subject was the guns coming in from Europe and how some don't look like the Russian reworks. The comments are from an international dealer in firearms....I have deleted some names ======== The guns your friend refers to are brought in to the USA by XXX The guns actually come from the former Yugoslavia, and are arsenal refinished there. They also sell them through Germany to other parts of the world. Your friend should be a little cautious as those boys can make anything "rare." I saw their efforts when they produced several hundred SS "death camp" Mausers. The stamps they use to make the stuff authentic are made in Birmingham, England. The place that makes them does a great trade in C broad arrow and British broad arrow stamps. |
